THE AMAZING RACE 15, Season Starts 09/27/09

Here's a youtube of the other season's hay bale task. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8ZS6ZPM0Nk

Phil says at the beginning there are 270 bales of hay and 20 clues, so it's a wonder the rest of them found them as fast as they did (or seemed to).

I didn't watch the show regularly then, but I remember I happened to catch this episode. It was so sad when Phil came out to tell them they'd been eliminated. She worked so hard, and they both kept such a good attitude about it.

Thanks for the link.

I don't have sound here at work. Did they ever say if she unrolled a bale that had a clue in it, but she just over looked it or were they just that unlucky that every bale she chose was one of the empty ones?

They didn't say in that video. I was wondering that, too.

Right before Phil shows up at the end, she says "there are three or four more", so if there were 20 total, it seems she must have overlooked a couple of them somewhere. They seemed pretty obvious to the other teams, but it might be easy to overlook one, especially after it got dark.

I also thought the clue said they had to take turns. That's why Maria was putting so little effort into it. She knew Tiffany was the only one who stood a chance of getting it, so she just gave it a little tap to give the turn back to Tiffany. Though I wouldn't have gone about it that way, that's what I think she was doing.

I was thinking more along the lines of them hitting it together they might have still incurred a penalty like Bryan and Erika did and had a chance at finishing. In other words, they finished the challenge, but did it incorrectly seems to have a lower penalty than not doing the challenge altogether.

Oh, that's a good point! I kept thinking that with Mika and the slide. What if he slid down, she walked down, they went to the mat and hoped the penalty was shorter than the time it took for the last team to arrive?

Seems like that would at least give a team more hope.

I agree with you about Erika. She stuck it out and finished the tasks even when they thought they were going to be last. How frustrating could it be to miss counting the bells again and again while the other teams seemed to breeze through it? And where was their help? They helped other teams early on and what did it get them when they needed help? Nada. I was so proud of her when she finally got the number correct. And you know what ... I would be whiny too if I had to sun up and down a bunch of stairs and *then* walk who knows how far in those stupid clogs all because they skimmed the clue. The episode was edited to put her in an unflattering light, but I felt the exact opposite about it ... I though she came out looking like a fighter and not a quitter.

I disagree about the editing. Over the last few episodes they have shown her to be a little whinnier each week. I think that was part of the plan.

I also don't think that her whinning and sticking it out was anything spectacular. They should have paid attention to the clue.

That golf challenge was hard due to the shape of the clubs, the grass cut and a mini soccer ball. The 3 hole course looked like a 65 yard par 8. CBS could have added a dogleg or a water hole. :lmao:

The Globetrotters will finish in the top 3.

Ahh, come on, don't give out major spoilers like that, unless that is your opinion.

^^^^^^

Yes this is my opinion, the teamwork is great from these guys. The final is in Las Vegas.

Saw the Globetrotters this year in Montreal. As usual, they beat up on the Generals.

Okay, whew, in the beginning, the general posters at the time, all agreed, to not post major spoilers.

This is my first season watching this show. I am still learning the rules, a 30 minute time out for not reading a clue correctly, like hopping on a bike.

We love this show. My family has watched it since the beginning. Its a small geography and history lesson for my son. So there is some educational benefits to the AR. I was so surprised that the poker gals gave up so easily. Had they stuck with one they probably wouldn't have been as worn out. My son loves the Globetrotters. Their dancing last night was a hoot!!

They probably have contingencies for that but I'm sure that they don't want to broadcast it. More teams in the future could elect to do half a challenge, gambling that their penalty would not put them last.

Watching the Dutch watch the Globetrotters was pretty funny. It was like watching people see my cousin's boyfriend for the first time. He's 7'3" and everyone looks up and stares like those people were looking at the GTs.

Dh and I were just talking about the haystack challenge yesterday. We both yelled, "Oh no!", when we saw they were repeating it next week. It looks like such a simple task, but it was probably the most frustrating thing I've ever seen on AR. Should be another great episode next week!

In the past, when a team didn't complete a challange, they were given a 2 hour penalty.

I was not watching when they did it the first time. I did watch from the link provided here, though. (Thanks to whomever provided it.) It does look tough, and I felt so bad for those girls. They looked like they were a strong team. If AR ever does an "All Star" edition, I'd love to see them on it. In fact, wouldn't an All-Star or "Second Chance" edition be a great idea. It could be these girls and also Justin and Zev. Even the poker players. Any strong team who got eliminated because of lost docs, being yeilded, or just 1 challenge that did them in. Not that I consider the poker players a strong team.

Popping in here. I usually don't keep up with this thread because we DVR Amazing Race and watch it later in the week but we did watch it last night.

It's possible that they could have just skipped the roadblock after realizing that it was just too much for them. I'm sure that there would be a lengthly time penalty but that would be chance to take just like Rob and Amber did. Or maybe there are rules written in now since the episode Rob and Amber were in to keep them from doing that. We'll never know unless someone tries it.

I have noticed that several times ( I haven't kept track) Phil says something to the effect of "Only after they complete the task will they get their clue" or some variation of that. I am thinking that they closed the "Rob and Amber" loophole by just making the rule that you have to complete the challenge in order to get the clue, so they can't just give up. I would think the girls, being the gambling poker players they are, would have decided to give up and just go on to the mat when it was obvious they weren't going to complete the task, take whatever penalty there might be and take their chances, instead of outright quitting. So I think there was no choice, finish the task or quit.

And I would just like to add:

If you are terrified of heights, water, other cultures or don't have the stomach to eat anything outside of your comfort zone, or in mass quantities. . . . DON'T APPLY TO BE ON AMAZING RACE! or Survivor for that matter! How dumb do you have to be??

I haven't read the entire thread, so this might have been covered, and if so I apologize for missing it. I was watching the Elimination Station on the Amazing Race website and the just eliminated team (Maria and Tiffany) didn't show up -- they called and talked to the other eliminated teams, and then it said something like they weren't going to go to the Elimination Station. Anyone know why they wouldn't have to go?

Just have to say -- "right on!" to this post. If you watch even one season of Amazing Race, you'll know contestants will likely face heights, water, and eating something disgusting. If you're not ready to do that, this is not the race for you. :)

The last few teams that are eliminated keep racing to keep spoilers from leaking about who the final three teams are. They are decoy teams. Whoever is eliminated next will also race to the end, we just wont see it on tv.
