Really? no one knew about the decoy teams? It is usually the last few teams before the top 3 that continue racing, sometimes they've even been reported as being in completely different cities than the final city.

But they are always at the finish line. The final city doesn't even last a day, so as neat as that sounds, it is highly improbable IMHO.

Decoy teams sure--but the people from the actual show. I don't believe it at all.

This is my first season watching this show. I am still learning the rules, a 30 minute time out for not reading a clue correctly, like hopping on a bike.

No--it was a 30 minute penalty for not using the bike and doing the challenge as written.

There are no penalties for misreading the clue.

They probably have contingencies for that but I'm sure that they don't want to broadcast it. More teams in the future could elect to do half a challenge, gambling that their penalty would not put them last.

I think not doing a challenge is a more costly penalty than doing a challenge incorrectly.

(I.e. skippng a task all together vs. misreading a clue of how one should transport themselves to the task.)

I had no idea! This sounded hokey so I Googled it (sorry for doubting you Donnajon!)

Per Wikipedia regarding season 13 aired in 2008:

"The first five teams eliminated were sequestered at a villa in Acapulco, Mexico to await the finale. Subsequent eliminated teams telephoned the villa to inform the teams at the villa of their elimination, but continued to run the race as decoys to throw off spoilers to the final outcome of the race. The sequestered teams met up with the decoy teams in the final destination city to cheer on the final three teams as they crossed the Finish Line, with the exception of Toni & Dallas, who were still stuck in Russia after their elimination due to the loss of Dallas' passport."

I imagine that TAR will continue with the decoy teams this year, too.

That makes sense. I was wondering if TAR would spend the $$ to send the eliminated teams back to the other part of the world where the elimination station is or if they would start a new station on a new continent. The poker players never said they were going back to Vegas just that they'd see everyone at "End City." Interesting.

Well shoot--I wonder why the teams at elimination station wouldn't already know this, though?

I thought someone said the girls made it sound like they wanted to get back to their old lives or somethng.

With the decoys, they do the same thing on America's Next Top Model. They always say the eliminated girl must immediately pack her bags and leave but they stay and participate in photo shoots. That way if people see them, no one knows who the final ones really are.

I never thought anything about the "End city" quote simply because everybody does meet up at "End city." So it didn't set off any radar with me at all.

I suppose I should spend more time with Wickepedia It never occurred to me about decoy teams. Told my Dh and it surprised him too at first, but it does make sense
