I had a hard time believing that the racers went into a chamber that was minus 160 degrees Celsius.
I do not know what that translates into in Fahrenheit. However, -40 degrees Fahrenheit and -40 degrees Celsius are the same (it is the only point where they agree). It is also the point (or very close to it) where Mercury freezes, hence normal temperature gauges will not operate below that mark; you must use alcohol to try to measure anything colder (alcohol does not freeze until minus 200 Fahrenheit).
At minus 40 degrees the skin will freeze almost instantly. My wife joked that it must be a dry cold. Anyway, I simply do not believe they were in there for two minutes, if it was truly minus 160 degrees Celsius.
Anyone of the scientific bent wish to comment? (my knowledge is due to quick surfing).
Here is a link to a resort being built in BC that features a "cold sauna" at -110C. It tells you all about what it does and how you go about it safely.
