The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Here's pics of last night's dinner. We have lots of leftovers so we'll be eating that today. Really blew the diet again, butter in the sauce, butter in the pastry, but at least it was really worth it. Delicious!

Here's the salmon. The sauce was browned butter, toasted pecans & cherries soaked in port. I had gotten port specifically for this dish, remember last time I used sherry, even better with the port & the pecans were good too! Bob & I both agreed this is the best salmon dish we've had anywhere!

And here's the blueberry strawberry galette. This was really very good. And not too hard for this non-baker.

served up with a dab of vanilla gelato! Like I said we blew the diet to smithereens! Sorry the pic came out blurry.

Afternoon, everyone! Things here are hot, hot, hot! The kids asked me to make chocolate chip pancakes this morning, so I got up, made the batter and heated up the griddle. As I was making the second round of pancakes, I got dizzy and sweaty again! It scared Katie to death! She got me to the couch with a glass of ice water, and a cool cloth on my forehead. Alan came in from mowing the lawn and has ordered me to stay down today. We are scheduled to go to dinner and a play this evening, so I'm taking it easy until we leave.

I'm pretty sure it's a combination of being hot and not drinking enough water. I'm back to my goal of at least 64 ounces per day. I have an appointment with my dr. next week after the ultrasound, so I'll talk to her about it then. Until then, Alan doesn't want me to cook. So, I'm not sure what we'll be eating here at our house. He's going to talk to his sisters who live close by and see if they'll take pity on us. We'll see.

OMG Sheryl, that looks amazing, I am drooling..........:faint: It'll be quite a while until I can fix that but you can bet it's on my list of rewards when I reach my goal!

The Knights won!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: The other pitcher only lasted one inning and Kyle had to come in, we were down 5-0. Kyle shut them down and we won 14-6! We play again at 5:30 ET. He sounded so tired on the phone, I know these boys aren't getting proper rest. They have bed-check at midnight but God only knows what time they're going to sleep.

We used to have garlic bread a lot or fresh bread from teh bakery but not since WW. Well last night Buddy saw the basket of bread still steaming and helped himself. I almost fell off my chair :lmao::lmao: because the butter was spiced with honey and cinnamon and he is a plain no frills added guy. His expression was priceless as he tried to figure out what had gone wrong with this treat :rotfl2:

:lmao: :rotfl2: He must have first thought he was in the wrong house.:lmao:

Oh my that does look good.

I think I must be carb deprived. We did manage to go to the farmers market it was just drizzling. I bought prezel brat buns, pretzel hamburger buns, naan and asiago chesse bread. Of course I did get some squashes and fruit too ;)

Oh my goodness, away for 4 days and there are pages & pages to read!

WFD ~ apple chicken sausages on the grill, baked beans and something healthy as a side which I haven't figured out yet.:confused3

Glynis, call the Dr and let her decide if you need to come in earlier for your checkup. You are probably right about dehydration but I wish you would err ion the side of caution. I agree with Alan about the cooking though, and keep off of your feet when you can.

I'm glad you were home this time, but I'm still worried!

:cool1:

I am making the squash blossoms tonight.

What are squash blossoms?

Here's pics of last night's dinner. We have lots of leftovers so we'll be eating that today. Really blew the diet again, butter in the sauce, butter in the pastry, but at least it was really worth it. Delicious!

Yum.

My 3 dog + 2 baby combo is working okay, getting better now that the dogs are a little more used to them... the Shih Tzu was not pleased and I had to seperate him from the rest of us for awhile. Now the babies are on different nap schedules, argh... thankfully they can hold their own bottles!

You are turning this dieter into a drooling mess! :lmao::lmao:

It is 99 degrees in the center today :scared:. Your blossoms sound yummy!
For our fall trip, we aren't going to the parks the first day. After we complete our errands, we will go to AKL to explore, then we're eating at Jiko, then we'll let the kids watch the animals through the night vision googles. We figure it will be a fun, but relaxing, way to start the trip.

They are going to love this visit.

Dinner was good. We ate early so that I wouldn't be pulled into the fried dough booth. I made cole slaw and sliced cucumbers to go with out burgers and dogs.

Glynis - Please take it easy. You know if we were near you we'd have already started a rotation of cooking meals for y'all.:goodvibes

Lauren - I hope you're OK today, haven't heard from you. I got your PM reply but you haven't posted, I'm thinking of you.

Stephanie - The Charred Corn Relish is wonderful, so tasty!!!!! I keep sneaking tastes every time I open the fridge, good thing it's healthy.:thumbsup2

Johnny said he's really getting kinda sick of all the veggies, oh well....:rolleyes1

Glynis: come on, put your feet up! It's hot, and you are expecting! Drink lots of water and rest, please! (and work on your London trip report while you are resting  )

Kathy: hooray for Kyle!

Aimee: squash blossoms are the flowers that grow on zucchini plants before the squashes grow. There are male and female flowers...I think the males are the best blossoms, and the feamles make the best squash...I think.

Here are dinner photos:

the goat cheese stuffed zucchini flowers. I know I should have shown them in a better presentation, but, frankly, I was hungry! and did not have time. Here they are draining on paper towels:

the egplant casserole...my Mom made this and it was excellent. Despite all of the cheese you see, it is a "triology diet" dish. I did talk with them at dinner about this diet...I still don't understand it though:

Where are y'all staying this trip? The plan for your 1st day sounds great! We really loved exploring AKL, the animals, the art, Jiko! Those are really good things!

We are staying in a villa off-site again. That just works so well for our group right now. We love the Disney resorts, but it's so nice to have so much space. It's more like our home setup, so the kids adjust better.

Your photos look wonderful...definitely worth blowing the diet for! :thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure it's a combination of being hot and not drinking enough water.

Please take care of yourself. I agree with Alan on the no cooking, and I think you should call the dr Monday to be safe.

The Knights won!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: The other pitcher only lasted one inning and Kyle had to come in, we were down 5-0. Kyle shut them down and we won 14-6!

That is SO great! No matter what happens, Kyle can always be proud of that performance. Good luck to the team tonight!

Yum...I want to come to your farmer's market.

Now the babies are on different nap schedules, argh... thankfully they can hold their own bottles!

They're on different nap schedules?? Do parents of twins do that intentionally?

It has been so hot here, I didn't feel like cooking, so we went out to eat. Liam has a favorite restaurant in town that I told him I would take him to at the end of school. Today seemed like a perfect day to make good on that promise.

Lauren - I hope you're OK today, haven't heard from you. I got your PM reply but you haven't posted, I'm thinking of you.

I'm here...:) I just didn't have the energy to post or spend alot of time on the DIS today. Yesterday was exhausting but very nice. I got to see my HS art teacher yesterday at my nephew's party...He was such a cool teacher that its always great to see him. I have to send him an invite to our reunion - he wants to come...then he'll dance up a storm.

My back is still bothering me but alot better. I can actually get out of bed without rolling back and forth!

We went out to eat tonight to the local place that I have restaurant dot com gift certs for (its sits on the river but it was too hot to sit outside). As always the food was great...I had shrimp and scallops with farfalle then we went for ice cream at the 5 and 10. I love our little quaint Main Street!

Sheryl, Becky and Laura, Great pics as usual!

Kat, Congrats to Kyle!!!

Laura, Congrats to Liam on the win!

Janice, your bread makes me drool...can't get good bread around here...:sad2:

Ann, Yeah on moving the trip up!

Aimee, I cannot believe you took on 8 month old twins! :scared1: I hope that didn't scare DH more...but it sounds like all is going well.

Nancy, Gotta love a fireman's shindig! Hope you had fun!

*********
Please forgive me if I forgot anything...I am tired! Off to watch a stupid movie I rented (I say that since I tend to pick out horrible movies).

Have a great night!

Kyle just called, their journey has ended. They lost 8-6 and are headed home tomorrow morning. He said he is so tired and ready to come home and y'all know I'm ready for him to come home so all is good. They had a great week and he had a week he'll never forget!:thumbsup2

Learn something new everyday! I want to try some - do they taste like squash? I may go hunt for them.

We stayed in a rental house a few years back and it really was nice. I don't buy the 'losing the magic' argument at all. If we didn't get a CM discount, we'd def rent something offsite. Esp when it's more than just the 2 of us!

Re: the naps - I actually got them off schedule today. They both went down at the same time but one just rolled around and talked for an hour so I ended up getting her back up. Thus, they were on opposite schedules. They are both crashing for the night, it seems, but again - one is konked and the other is looking at me. :sad2:

Lord, please don't EVER give me twins.

Aimee, I cannot believe you took on 8 month old twins! :scared1: I hope that didn't scare DH more...but it sounds like all is going well.

Yeah, it sorta scared him. He lost his patience with them when they were both crying and nothing seemed to help soothe them. I reassured him that when it's yours, you know your baby better and can read their cries some - plus you don't have two of them!

He has a lot of fun when they are playing and babbling, he's very cute, but when they're inconsolable he gets frustrated.

Aw, I'm sorry they are heading home but it sounds like a fantastic week!

The squash blossems look great, I have quite a few in my garden so I might give them a try. Besides, if they make it to the vegatable point, the chipmunks will probably eat them- they have already eaten almost all of my tomatoes.
Tonight we had grilled chicken marinated in trader joe's soyaki with peanut dipping sauce, brown rice (everyone ate that when the figured out they could mask the taste with peanut sauce) and I heated up a can of corn. It's to hot to cook, but to crowded to go out to eat.
Looks like we might be getting a bit of a storm in the next few days, maybe the humidity will break.
Becky- was there a recipe for the eggplant or was in basically eggplant, sauce, and cheese? Sounds like my kind of diet.
"See" you all next time I check in.

Good Morning!

We are having grilled pork tenderloin, carrots and probably a salad. Not 100% sure of the sides yet.

Glynis, Hope you feel better!

Kat, Sorry about the loss but proud of Kyle for such a tremendous year!

Aimee, Tom would be a little freaked with watching twins too. It will be a big adjustment for him when we have a child. I wish I knew some babies I could sit for.

Have a great day all!

Good morning everyone!

WFD - Some of my boy's favorites, a roast cooked medium rare (Becky & Laura's Mom's recipe), smothered potatoes & onions and prosciutto wrapped asparagus. Can't wait to see my son!!:yay:
