The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Now if only I could shop like this in NOLA!

I've been lurking but being on the road not really cooking. "We" had to go get new work slacks for a big meeting today and well, Mr Bigshot was devesatated to find he needed a bigger size. (shhh! don't let him know I told) He took it worse than most women I know.:rotfl:

But from the last time we were on it I stayed at the same weight, eating everything in sight I think, so I don't feel that bad- I know I was a bad girl.:rolleyes1 But Rick gained some and he knows it now.

So last night was spinach salad, bakers, and shrimp with cocktail sauce.

My lunch today is spinach salad and butternut squash soup with creme fraiche.

Dinner will prolly be steamed veggies, baked sweet potatoes, and the rest of the shrimp- since our next hotel room may not have a fridge.

And if all goes as planned I will have been home a whole 5 days for the month of May.:headache: But we're paying off some of our debt!:worship:

:sad2:

Looks like the next stop for us will be Wisconsin- so Janice you may very well be hearing from me cause you're between me (Detroit-for now) and there....and we're driving!:scared:

Hey girl, We've been missing you! Sorry you've been working so hard! You know you need to check in, whether or not you've been cooking! :thumbsup2 Kudos to you on staying the same weight & eating everything in sight! What's the trick to that? ;) Sorry that it didn't work as well for Rick! Hope you get to come home soon. On the grocery cost, there was an article in the Picayune last week & the grocery prices down here are much lower than many other cities. Especially our meat prices, so just keep clipping your coupons & come home soon!! :goodvibes

Hi Honey!

We'll be home Friday for the long weekend. But back here Tuesday AM.

As far as making groceries- seems like I spend double in NOLA even going out to Walmart or Rouse's than I do when I'm up here. I grew up with Kroger- and am loving having one down the street. They double coupons everyday and every now and then double dollar coupons! I'm trying to figure out how to get a suitcase of groceries home.

ETA- I get to go today and hit the 75% off Cosmetics carts. Who doesn't love a new lipstick and nail polish!

I know that I am not going to remember everything so I apologize in advance. WOW, you all are a busy bunch! Between mattress shopping, games and errands and GRADUATION I cannot keep up and I am just reading about it! ;)

Kathy- I know how you feel about the house. Once we were ready to sell my Mom's I just wanted it gone. I was not good at thinking about it, but my brother and sister were very upset when the price did not match what they had asked. It was very personal with the two of them and the falling market did not help. I don't have any advice as I was able to remove myself from the whole thing, I let them handle it. You cannot do that so I cannot even imagine how it is for you. Once I had enough of the what seemed to be endless discussions I put it in my Mom's hands. I have no idea if that was what helped or not but in my own mind she took care of it.

As to Kyle and his graduation,.

Laura- OMG! She is like a perfect little Colleen! Good thing she has an older brother, she is absolutely adorable.

Wendie- how on Earth are you managing????????????

Lori- your story about Rick and his pants had me :lmao::lmao::lmao: MEN! They are all alike. Buddy needs to have his suits made and he is a little "vain" about his waist measurement. He argued with the poor tailor who told him his waist was a 38 when he had been 36 for years. This very short man, who was having trouble measuring Bud anyway (picture a squirming, scowling, clench teethed 6'6" guy glaring at a 5'%' tailor) came out to tell me he could not make him lose 2 inches :rotfl:I had to tell the poor guy to lie to him. He'd never know the difference and everyone wins. I had been doing this for years when I bought his pants :thumbsup2

SHeryl- lucky Princess!

I really did not cook this weekend so Buddy lived on hot dogs and sandwiches. He was happy and I was happy. I have to cook tonight though, I cannot stand to go too long without "real" food, so we are having chicken something, and sweet potatoes. Maybe with brown rice. It is just going to be us though, Erica is in Wisconsin for a few days.

Laura, with your permission, I'll share...

Permission granted. I am sure it was much worse from your perspective.

I can go for a week without a dishwasher, I can't go for a week with out a bed!

Hmm...I might pick the dishwasher.

Wow, Wendie, you are so busy! I would be one cranky mom trying to keep your schedule. I don't mind the running around or the home improvement projects, but the sleep deprivation would kill me. Good luck getting everything done!

That was also a funny story about the recital. Liam has a recorder concert at school this week that I am dreading. I can't stand the sound of just his recorder, let alone more than 100. :headache: Do they make invisible earplugs? :rolleyes1

And if all goes as planned I will have been home a whole 5 days for the month of May.:headache: But we're paying off some of our debt!:worship:

Good to hear from you Lori, and congratulations on paying off some bills. I don't envy your gas bills though. :scared1: Good luck with the diet and all the travel!

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments for Caili. She was in show-off mode when I took that picture, as Becky can attest, since I sent her five other pictures from the same shoot.

My mom really did like the flower box. Of course, Becky then wanted to know where HER flower box was. I guess Caili will be making another one.

Caili has skating and Liam has a baseball game tonight, so I am having the leftover curried chicken salad in a wrap for dinner tonight.

Yeah, the salesgirl wanted to know if she could help me. I told her "yes, how do you explain to a man without hurting his feelings that he isn't the size his mind tells him he his?" Her response? "Good luck with that!" and she scuttles off to fold behind the counter......coward!:lmao:

Is the WW veggie soup posted somewhere? Figured I'd ask before heading off on the search-o-meter.. Thanks

Glad your Mom like the flower box, it was so pretty! Caili did a very nice job on that!

Don't you hate the recorder?! I think that is the one of the most selfless acts of parenting. Letting them practice that darn thing at home & then showing up for the recorder "concert"! ;) Really, pack the earplugs & aspirin before walking out the door!!

Turkey Burgers (a hit in our house)
  • 1/4 cup scallions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/8 cup canola oil
  • 4 pounds ground turkey breast
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. black pepper
  • 2 tsp. chipotle Tabasco™
  • 1 lemon, juice and grated zest
  • 1/2 bunch parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Major Grey's Chutney, pureed
***I used a Whole Food Papaya & Mango Chutney
***I am substituted fresh lime juice for the lemon
***Just remember to put in the fridge for a few hours before you cook them, they fall apart very easily.

The coarse mustard was really good on them.......Enjoy!

Thank you so much for posting this. I DVR'd the show and watched it Friday night and wanted to get the recipe off the website. Well, real life got in the way, and multiple baseball games later I had forgotten about it. It sounds wonderful!

:scared: I don't do those anymore. However, shots did give DH the courage to kiss me for the first time, so I can't say they are all bad. ;)

As promised, here is a picture of my little ballerina.

She was so great...and Nancy, she definitely didn't trip over her tutu.

Beautiful picture. She looks like a porcelain doll!

No cooking over the weekend, as we had a baseball tournament. I did make peanut butter balls for the team to eat between games Sunday afternoon, as they love them and at least they do have protein (along with all that sugar and Caro). This week is also full of games, so we'll be doing more on-the-go type foods. Have a great week everyone!

Buying the pants with the new extra expandable waist helps!!! You can buy the size they think they are & the stretch allows them to actually be able to breathe!!;) ;)

Here's part of that article on grocery prices across the nation. I thought it was interesting.

On May 7, food editors and reporters from The Times-Picayune and eight other Advance Publications newspapers, as well as the Newhouse News Service in Washington, surveyed the prices of 30 basic grocery items at supermarkets in their cities.

New Orleans came out in the low-middle of the price pack. Our collective grocery bill -- $94.32 -- wasn't nearly as high as those on the East and West coasts.

The same items cost a whopping $105.82 in Newark, N.J.; $101.98 in Washington; and $100.70 in Portland, Ore.

The tab also was a little higher in Bay City, Mich. ($98.91), and Cleveland ($96.93).

But New Orleans-area shoppers paid more than those in Syracuse, N.Y. ($92.71); Saginaw, Mich. ($92.32); Huntsville, Ala. ($87.12); and Harrisburg, Pa. ($83.46).

Organized by The Plain Dealer of Cleveland, the grocery list contained half generic items (5-pound bag of potatoes; dozen large eggs; half-gallon 1-percent milk) and half name brands (Sara Lee pound cake; Tropicana orange juice; Brawny paper towels).

Some regional differences appeared. New Orleans-area shoppers pay almost $2 less on average for meat, fish and poultry. (We checked prices on 1-pound packages of 90- to 92-percent lean ground beef; boneless chicken breasts; farm-raised salmon; and center-cut pork chops with bone). Harrisburg is major dairy country, and shoppers there spent $2 less than the national average on dairy products.

Did you see my post...I will be arriving in the World 6/22.

:lmao:
Thanks Search-O-Matic!

I'll have to look at their flights. I know I booked them to leave on the 22nd but I'm not sure what time. Our wedding gift was their flights, thinking it would be easy to use our frequent flier award tickets. Yeah, no...apparently since gas is up so much It took 4 roundtrip award tickets to get their 2 roundtrip flights. It had to be an unlimited ticket which is twice as much!:scared1: That was Southwest. On Delta it was almost 150,000 miles to get the 2 roundtrips!

I love 'em and would give them the world, but dang! I should've just sucked it up and bought the Kitchen Aide mixer for $300! Then Rick and I could get our Disney fix twice when the flights go back to regular!

I'm sooo bad.:sad2:

Good Morning everyone,
Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Not much exciting going on here. Just one thing...
DH and I are going to the beach for a long Memorial day weekend.
(yep - its my second vacation this month - my employer is really loving me right now :lmao: ) We are definately looking forward to that.

Here's a run down of food this weekend:
Friday Night - ate out at Casa Blanca - mexican and margaritas ;)
Saturday Night - we grilled hamburgers and hot dogs
Sunday Night - Buffalo Chicken Fingers for DH - Chicken Tender Salad for me

WFD tonight - Something healthy - gotta get into that bikini in less than a week. Probably some steamed veggies and a piece of grilled chicken to go with it.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Toodles :hippie:

I'm on my own for dinner tonight (John's in London), so I think I am going to make my favorite meal that he hates--mushrooms on baguette with gruyere cheese.

I'm still plowing through the photos and will have some to share with you soon!

I have a work meeting tonight so I'll be here until 930 or 10. Thankfully they serve dinner prior so whatever it is, I'll eat it.

I am more selfish than most...I manage to "forget" on a daily basis to remind him to do his 15 minutes of practice. Once the recital is over, the recorder is going to mysteriously disappear. :rolleyes1

A while back when we redid that den wall, I cleaned out an old table/cabinet that I had kept DD's "school memories" stuff stashed inside. Of course what do I pull out of there but that darn recorder & Alexis practically leapt of off the couch to grab it! Luckily it has again disappeared!;)

My MIL took my daughter to the children's museum a few years ago and got her a recorder. Of all the things to pick from. Nothing worse than a 3 or 4 year old with a recorder. Anyway, when we got our dog we (me) decided it was a little to scary for him, that also works with balloons.
Sat night we went to see Iron Man so we just grabbed dinner while we were out. Last night we had pasta salad, after cutting the grass in the sun it sounded good, but by the time dinner came around it was cool and rainy.
Tonight I think I might cook a steak, some onions, potatoes, and something green.
Can you believe Memorial Day weekend is so soon. This will be my first that I don't have to work so I think we will have a backyard picnic, just the three of us. I picked up some beef flat ribs, does anyone know what to do with them? If I don't figure something out I will cook them like pork ribs I guess.
Have a great day everyone, it's a really nice day here, I hope you all have the same.

Hey guys - Today is graduation day and I've been sobbing most of the day, this is so unfair to Kyle but I can't seem to get control of this....prayers please.:sad1:

Hello! I have not posted much lately..food has been rather boring since WW! heehee..Tonight i think is fish of some sort and a nice salad..
OH i think that Oprah recipe turkey burger sounds awesome! I need to make that! :)
Thoughts of happy things to all..and Kathy...
