The All New Pop Century FAR OUT FAQ Thread!

When you drive in the main Disney World entrance are there signs that direct you to Pop Century? My mom is driving her own car and wants to know how to get to the hotel (or if you want to get technical: the motel. Recalling the great hotel/motel debate on this board )

Legs, It depends on what you consider the "Main" entrance. There are a lot of ways to get onto property, the 3 biggest ones being Epcot Center Drive, World Drive, and Osceola Parkway. If you could tell us where she is driving from, it might be easier to give directions that way.

HI and Welcome EJ!! Glad that you have joined us here at the Dis!! BTW...love your screen name - hosewater?!? What is up with that???

Cya in Feb!!! Can't Wait!!!

:wave2:

She's driving over from Melbourne on 192 so wouldn't that be the main entrance on World Dr.?

I'll be coming from turnpike south to Osceola Parkway.

Are there Pop signs at all entrances directing you to the motel?

Would it work to just follow the 'All Stars Resort' signs? Don't you drive down the same 'lane' to get to both, only PC is on the east side and AS is on the west side?

I could be VERY wrong, I am just asking based on what I remember seeing on a map once. That is what we had planned to do anyway.

Thanks,
DJ

Yes, as long as there are Pop signs I could follow those. Are those signs up? They must have them up.
Osceola to Victory Way doesn't tell me much because I have no idea where Victory Way is. I'm sure I've driven on it but paid no attention to the name of the road. I'm a sign follower :teeth:

legs22 Its easy to find its right beside the carribean at the south.
the fire station by the carribean go south its the street that takes you to the world of sports complex. really easy.

just do not go by the "official site" map cause they have pop beside board walk and CBR by Bc or yc (forget which)

OKAY lets see if you come in from 192 the main entrance follow the signs for the carribean when you get to the fire station turn right and go south on the left is the carribean and then comes
???? you got it turn LEFT into it. I'm like you street names who looks I just can get there, most of the time........
I'm not sure if I saw the signs when I was there??? didnt look sorry.

Yes, there will be signs specifically for Pop Century as you get closer. For main signs, follow the Epcot Resort Area signs, or the Disney-MGM Studios theme park signs.

As for technicalities... technically speaking, it's a RESORT! :earsboy:

OOOOH... no no no no! You don't want to do that. The cab ride will be expensive, and Goodings is more expensive than a 7-11. Your best bet... there is a brand new Publix that is just off of the Osceola Parkway, near the Gaylord Palms. Cab ride will be much cheaper, and so will the prices.

Someone on the Family Board posted their hotel (I assume it was an on-site hotel) said they do not accept shipments for their guests anymore. I seems that there were too many complaints regarding damaged boxes.

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=477290

Is this true of the PC also? For our trip in April, I want to ship down some food for our stay. BTW, what is the address for the PC?

Again, thank you for your great responses.

As far as I know, we are accepting them. Please mark on the box that it is Luggage, and your date of arrival. This way, we can store it, and then take it up to your room when you check in.

As for the address... all I have is a PO Box, I think. Your best bet is to call 407-938-4000. That's our phone number. They can give you the exact shipping address, and they will get advanced notice of the package.

Tyler, thank you so much for starting this thread and for all of the great information that you have shared with everyone here! One of the main reasons we are going to stay at Pop Century starting on January 31st is because of your enthusiasm(smile).

Am I understanding/reading the resort map correctly and that the 70's buildings aren't next to a pool?

I can't use the pools anyways, so do you think it would make more sense for me to ask for a room for my spouse and I in the 70's buildings? And that way it opens up a room for people who can use the pools and want to be in buildings next to pools.

I am also wondering if the roll-in showers in the accessible rooms actually are slanted so that the water goes down the drain and not out into the bathroom and room carpet like it does at the All Stars?

I end up wasting so many towels by having to build a "dam" with rolled up bath towels to keep the water from soaking the rest of the bathroom floor and the carpet and I am hoping that this time the floor actually slants towards the drain and not the other way(smile).

And since I seem to be just full of questions tonight for some reason(smile), can you tell me if the accessible rooms actually have a "peep" hole (I have NO idea what to call those little holes in the door that you look out to see who is outside the door) down low enough for a person in a wheelchair to use? It isn't a really big deal, but oh how nice it would be to actually be able to see who is there before I open the door(smile).

The great people who work at special services have told us that we are guaranteed (for medical reasons) a non-smoking room with a roll-in shower and a king bed (to give me more space for the wheelchair). I have been so impressed with their thoughtfulness and how easy they have made the entire process.

I am also thrilled to death that Pop Century won't be sharing buses, as it is so much easier to load the wheelchair if the bus doesn't have people on it already. My spouse was lobbying for staying at the Swan again(smile), but I told him that I thought we would have fun at Pop Century and he is willing to give it a try.

Thanks again for all of the information!

While they do not have a pool, they do have a pop-jet area for kids. Personally, I would recommend asking for a decade in which you feel your party would best associate with. That way its more fun!

When designing our rooms, they looked at what didn't work at the All-Stars, and improved them. Although I did not get out a device to measure a slant, I'd imagine they built one in.

Indeed they did! Not only that, but the lock bar is also down lower for easier access.

Sorry to keep this short, late for work! :)

I just called PC and spoke with Betty. SHe gave me the correct shipping address in case any of you need it.
Pop Century Resort
1050 Century Drive
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

Tyler tell Betty I appreciate her help.

We arrive on Thursday and would like to stop at Super Walmart before PC. Is it on the way from the airport? I was told it's on the Oceola Parkway.

See you soon!!!!

Great Information --

Nicely Done!

Just wanted to let you know however, the Pop Century rooms, as with all value resorts, are only 260 Sq Ft, Not 280.

Hope this is helpful!

Tyler or EJ,
We are coming to PC this coming Sunday. My daughters are hoping to get to try out the pool, but we have dinner PS at the GF for the Cinderella Dinner at 4:50, so we need to head over there late afternoon.

My Question: If we get to PC before 3:00 (check in time), can we check in early? And if our room isn't available yet, can the girls swim even though we don't have a room? Are there changing/restrooms by the pool?

Thanks! It is cold and rainy here in Indiana today, but 1 week from today we will be at WDW!!!!!!! :sunny:
