~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

mel, you rock!!! thanks so much, jason will be one happy reader!!

oh, by the way, i just got my first book on goodreads. for $4 i got a hard cover "The Host". i've wanted this one for my library since i've read it but never found it used at a good price.

Yea, I'm glad you liked the suggestions. I am really a researcher at heart. I would go into that if I had it "to do over again" I think.

That sounds like a great deal on "The Host." You would really love to have my DMIL for your DMIL. She's a library volunteer (for over 30 yrs) and her job is that she runs the "donations" section and she puts books on Amazon to sell. She made the library $80k in a year. She won volunteer of the year that year! Needless to say, any book we want we just drop it into her ear and poof it arrives. We usually donate it right back or buy it on the really cheap but it sure is handy!

OT: I thought I would pass this on to those of you who like this sorta thing.. here is a "SWAPPING" website that somebody told me about. I hope somebody can enjoy it!

http://www.swaptree.com/

I guess you can swap anything you don't want for anything you do want. lol

Lowie-was thinking about you here. There seems like a lotta trade in books and cd's on the site

thanks Mel, i signed up. i tried to get a book of goodreads but the person who has it didn't print the postage label and after a few days it is voided. so, no harm, no foul... but no book either. i'm going to try out this site.

There are two books I'm interesting in reading, but I wanna know more about them before I buy them... they're Fallen and Prophecy of Two Sisters, anyone know anything about those?

My friend read both and just said they are 'okay'. I'm waiting for her to get them back from someone else and then I plan on reading them. :thumbsup2

ETA: I meant she just read the Prophecy of Two Sisters. LOL Sorry!!!

I have not read either but Fallen looks pretty bad.

The other book has the words "dark and twisted tale" come up alot on the reviews. lol I have it under "to-read-but-probably-too-weird-or-stressfull-for-me" shelf.

Thanks Mel for the swapping info. I'll have to check that out. Very cool that about your DMIL and her library work. Works out well for you! And cool that you get along with her. lol

So, I began watching The Dresden Files on Netflix. Not too bad. Anyone on here read the Jim Butcher books about Wizard Harry Dresden that this tv show was based on?

My DH read the Dresden File books and enjoyed the new vampire lore.. he claims they are somewhat "pulpy" and I don't know what that means but probably you guys do. ;)

I've been busy with life but I just recently read something that was recommended on this thread: The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I really liked it, I wish it had been longer and a bit more in depth. It was very engrossing though! I started it at lunch yesterday and finished it on my lunch break today. So thanks to those who mentioned it!

Be sure and read Dead Tossed Waves. It is a companion book and I think may have even been better.

I'm sorry.. I know I've asked this before but... is this book angsty, depressing, and/or completely devoid of lightness? I know bella was a bit depressed but I never thought she was as angsty as so many of these other girls are ie: Evermore, The Summoning (Darkest Powers), Morganville Vampires, Blue is for Nightmares, etc.

Well, not completely void of lightness, but, yes, it is angsty, and somewhat depressing. But, there is hope at the end.

I thought Forest of Hands and Teeth was VERY depressing, there were some moments of lightness at the beginning of the book, but towards the end it kind of delves into complete darkness, mainly because no one ends up well...

Still, I recommend it because it's wonderful and beautifully written. Dead-Tossed Waves was much lighter and much better than FOHAT, plus the action scenes in it where wonderful.

I really like the zombie and apocalypse aspects of FOHAT. I never felt as bereft as I did reading New Moon, but then I wasn't as emotionally involved in FOHAT.

I really loved it and Dead Tossed Waves that accompanies it. I read FOHAT so fast because I just couldn't put it down. DTW was the same for me.

Alright.... I think I'll give it a try at some point soon (I have Eyes Like Stars on my bedside table as I was friended by the author on Goodreads.com and she is very nice and the book looks like fun!). After I read FOHAT I'll have a good idea of what you all think of as depressing then I can guage your recommendations of future readings (or lack of) which will be nice!

Thanks ladies... just want to mention quickly how much I appreciate having our small community here on the dis. I like you guys alot. :)

I do too.:grouphug:

I read the first few chapters of FOHAT as the sample on kindle. I was very engrossing, but boy, was it depressing! I judge my samples if the next day I'm still thinking of what happened in the book and if I want to know more. I'll definitely read this one, I just may need some happy pills later!
