I'm almost done with Dead-Tossed Waves and I have no idea what I'm reading next, help?

BTW, when does the next VA book come out? I know it's May, but when exactly?

Do you like warriors and wizards and such? If so there is The Warrior Heir, The Wizard Heir, and The Dragon Heir by Cinda Williams Chima.

I'm wondering if anyone else has read the two Tiger's Quest books by Colleen Houck. I really liked them, they reminded me a lot of the Twilight books. Same kind of dynamic between the two main characters. No vampires, but the Indian culture in the books was very interesting and different. The third book is due out soon, and there will be a fourth in the future.

Look for anything by Brian Keene he writes incredible zombie stories. My DH loves his stories. I thought DTW was better too.

Hi there!! And welcome to the party from the only one who hasn't read Twilight.

Thanks! I re-read the Twilight series this weekend and fell in love all over again lol. There are so many great recommendations here idk where to begin! I doubt I'm gonna find anything that compares to Twilight, but I'm trying. I read the Sookie Stackhouse series, waiting for the next book to come out. I've always liked a good vampire story. And I'm working my way through Salem's Lot still- had to take a break from that for a few days. I'm thinking about reading the Harry Potter series next but I still have time. I try to read what my DD is asking to read, that's how I got sucked into Twilight! She's still working on that series and has a ways to go, so when she's done she wants to read HP next.

Oh and btw- you should definitely read Twilight! I can't believe that there's someone out there who hasn't yet!

I have a confession to make: We all know I haven't read Harry Potter (except the first one, I listened to it on audio book). I saw the first movie again and it was cute... different, unique. But we watched the second movie tonight.. somehow I had forgotten it entirely since I saw it the first time 10 or so years ago) and .... I just can't get passed how annoying it is that things just appear for him. It feels like it's usually Dumbledore at the crux of it all but still.... the loyalty of Harry caused the bird to come down WITH the sorting hat that happened to have the dagger in it? Blech. I hate easy fixes in magical books.

And, why on Earth don't they try to find something AGAINST Malfoy that they can prove so that they can get him out of the way instead of just waiting for his next evil plot to unfold. Oh I don't know.. it's just so annoying. I spend most of my viewing time with a scowl. I'll grant you it's cute. I just wished I would have read it as a less skeptical child.

My DD13 (Avid Reader) loved the Percy Jackson series as well as many others. The only "Greek" one she could think of was http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2342943.Oh_My_Gods_ but it's really girly and more YA than Juvenille. But just an FYI for ya. The second book in the series looks cute too.

If you'd like recommendations on "quest" type books can get a ton of them her. Let me know. She says the "Erec Rex" http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3624.Kaza_Kingsley and "Leven Thumps" http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/125984.Obert_Skye series might be a good place for a 9 yr old to start if he likes "quest" books like Percy Jackson - but they are not mythical in nature. She could only think of "mythical" books in which the myths were made up by the author and not so much based on greek mythology.

If you think Twilight has too much sexual content, then stay FAR FAR away from the True Blood series.

My best freind recommended them to me after I had finished the Twilight series, and I have to say...I polished all 9 of them off within 2 weeks! Great books, great writing! Chalaine Harris is one of my faves now. So if you you are looking for more sexy vampires, hunky werewolves, witches and of course drop dead gorgeous fairies...then the Sookie Stackhouse series is just what the doctor ordered!

oh, by the way, i just got my first book on goodreads. for $4 i got a hard cover "The Host". i've wanted this one for my library since i've read it but never found it used at a good price.

I think the challenged books are books that parents / teachers have requested, challenged be removed from school libraries and reading lists. It's so funny that Twilight is on the list because of sexual content, when the characters are married before they do the deed, and that the lack of actual content is often something adults complain about as to why they hate the series. Just read here on the Dis, people complain that they don't act like normal teenagers would. Well, um, duh! I don't want to read about normal teenagers!

i seriously must be the worst mom ever!! my daughter hasn't read past New Moon so i told her she's missing out on the steamy parts by not finishing the series.. haha... then i got her a book from the used book store called "Maybe". It seemed to be about an angsty teenage guy. turns out he is more 'typical' of current teenagers. in other words his brain is in his pants.

I don't agree with "banned" books HOWEVER... lol I do think that there are a LOT of interesting books that are really geared towards younger kids and I don't see why they have to push books that are really mature and older themed on middle schoolers, especially. They're VERY MUCH KIDS.

Like I said.. it's not that I want them banned. I just think that there are great reads out there that can really be better for them mentally in the long run. You're young, have fun, don't worry about all this adult themed stuff. That's my personal opinion. There's PLENTY of time to enjoy all that angsty, worldy, mature crap. And by then the stuff that WAS made to be fun and adveturous isn't going to appeal as much or be quite as engrossing. I mean I would pay $1,000,000,000 to get my "kid brained viewpoint" back for reading. When I read books as a kid I Was IN THEM. I can't do that anymore cause I'm jaded and old. lol

I want kids to be able to enjoy there time as kids when it comes to literature.
