~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

Welcome back! I'm glad you enjoyed the suggestions!! :goodvibes

I've finished the BDB 1 book and am kicking myself that I didn't buy more.

My future sis in law just took off with my vampire academy books. Anyone know if the newest one of that came out yet?

Thanks! I was just over on goodreads updating and saw that Uglies is optioned for a movie. Soooo...for those who have read it, who should play Uglies-Tally? Pretties-Tally? Specials-Tally? I would think there is no way they could use the same actress for all 3.

i don't know, for some reason i can't see all three being made into movies. they aren't all that popular, like a twilight or harry potter series.

I sometimes go onto youtube and look up fan made "dream casts" for books. Some are really good! there was one from A Great and Terrible Beauty that totally made me want to read the whole series over again! The music was haunting. So pretty! I watched it again.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETJdJkFj0Eo

There are several for the vamp school series (House of Night and Vamp Acad) too...I think I"ve posted links to them in this thread... can't remember for sure though.

EDIT: I looked at the youtube for the uglies trailers and I SWEAR people cannot bear the idea of an actual "normal" looking person on screen! In other words, even the so-called ugly Tally is some gorgeous girl-starlette. I want to see somebody REGULAR looking. It would make no sense to throw up some "pretty" girl and try to ugly duckling her with a make-over into ugly. I realize that "ugly" in the book wasn't necessarily ugly but it was supposed to be something OTHER than the socially acceptable version of magazine beauty (the magical proportion scale, etc), right??!! Sigh.....

And it's also funny how they use the same actors for the cast of each and every book that they're dreaming up dream casts for...

Anyway.. the other casts are more fun than the Uglies casting videos. lol

I don't know much about the politics of movies from books but I do know that most of the time I see a movie I had no idea (until possibly somebody mentions it to me) that the movie was a book to begin with! Obvious exceptions of course, but generally I don't know and I just go see the movie because it looks exciting. Uglies is a fun concept... the movie could be more popular than the book. :confused3 I've seen the series in the bookstores for a few years now.

I don't know how accurate this is but here is some info from IMDB.com

UGLIES

and interestingly enough, something about A Great and Terrible Beauty, too? This page actually lists a director and producer on board??

A Great and Terrible Beauty

From Wikipedia:
[edit] Film
In July, 2006, Icon Productions, the film production company run by Mel Gibson, announced that it would adapt the book into a film based on A Great and Terrible Beauty, to be written and directed by Charles Sturridge. People have been rumored to be playing the characters, but author Libba Bray has confirmed that no one has been cast. Author Libba Bray discusses the current status of the film on her webpage.

A Great and Terrible Beauty

From Wikipedia:

Wow, interesting, my brother's fiancee is reading my Vampire Academy books (until 4:15 am, I should have warned her) and we were discussing casting if they made a movie. :)

I think the book covers of the Uglies/Pretties/Specials did an excellent job of getting the idea across. It's just a normal but pretty (more interesting) looking girl on the Uglies.

Okay the books for everybody. Poison Study, Magic Study, and Fire Study. They are full of adventure and romance.

A friend let me borrow the book Beastly, it looks very interesting, I think I'll be reading it on my flight Saturday.

I haven't been on this thread in a while, but I really enjoyed the Great and Terrible Beauty video, very nicely done. I have been slowly but surely working my way through the House of Night series. I enjoy them even though the writing isn't the best, the characters are easy to relate to and they act like actual teens which is nice.

I haven't been on this thread in awhile too!
The BDB books are my favorite and I haven't been able to find any books that come close to them! Thank goodness J R Ward is releasing another book in Oct. about fallen angels and it is kind of a spin off from the BDB books. I can't wait for that! The next BDB book won't be till next year.:sad2:

I am also waiting for the 4th book of Vampire Academy(Blood Promise) which comes out Aug. 25th. I really enjoyed those books.

Travelmel, that link you provided was for the house of night books, not a Vampire Academy book. Unless they call them the VA books and I am confused?:confused3

I just read the series Morrigan's Cross Trilogy by Nora Roberts. The first book was a little slow in the beginning but I am glad I stuck with it. They were really good. There is a little of everything, time travel, vampires, sorcerers, warriors, witch, romance.

I just bought 2 new books, Moon Called by Patricia Briggs, and Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. Haven't started them yet but I will post when I finish and let you all know if they are any good.

i'm also anxiously awaiting the new book by JR Ward, Covet, i belive it's goign to be named. I really love the BDB books and i'm considering reading them for the 3rd time. i got a few girls in my office hooked on them and am dying to get back all of my borrowed books! i don't own Lover Avenged yet but really want to buy it. i just hate having one hard cover with all soft covers.

I hate having all soft covers then the one hard cover too! But I couldn't not buy it! I refuse to lend out my books!LOL I am a book hog! I will gladly tell my friends where they can buy their own copies!:lmao:

i was able to get it from the library and read it twice before returning it. it still beckons to me everytime i'm in Target (which is way too often). it's like the latest house of night book or sookie stackhouse, i just can't buy them in hard cover. although the last sookie book wasn't my cup of tea so i'm glad i didn't pay a lot.

i've passed up buying a few books lately and then found them on sale in my public library for 50 cents... SCORE!! i've also been buying books i already have for 50 cents, just in case i need to lend them out.

Lol, I'm just the opposite. I much prefer to have a hardback if I am buying a book. I hardly ever buy paperbacks unless they're at the thriftstore and I know I am just going to trade them back in. Lately I haven't been buying any books since I "rediscovered" the library---gotta love free!!!

i agree that i prefer hard cover books, they stay nicer and look better, but if i'm buying a series and can find all but the last book in soft cover that's what i'll buy. also my library doesn't have 'mass market' paperbacks. well, not alot...

i recently changed my living room into a library so i'm looking for books to buy... i want stuff i'll actually read though not just stuff that looks pretty.

we have a library in boca raton that people donate amazing books to and they sell all donations for $2 per hard cover and 50 cents for paperback. the other libraries do the same but don't get the good books that the snooty folks in boca read.

Halfway to the Grave was a great book! I loved it and couldn't put it down. I read it in a day!LOL I can't wait to read the rest of the series. It looks like there is 4 books. It did remind me of Buffy the vampire slayer a little. Except the vampire slayer is half vampire. It was a very exciting book and the "romance" between Cat(main character) and Bones(vampire) was really hot!!

Moon Called was good, but not as good as Halfway to the Grave. Moon Called got confusing at some points. I just thought there was a lot of info packed into one book. A bunch of different characters and after reading it I am still confused about the plot. There are other books in the series but I am not sure I will bother reading them.

I so need to start and read these books. Hey, are they appropriate for the tween set? I need something that I can send with my DD12 while she's on vacation (AGAIN)

'sup Mel??

anyone read sherrilyn kenyon books? i bought one yesterday for the heck of it, oh and there is a hot guy on the cover...

nuttins s'up... I'm not sure why I posed that confused look. Maybe just bumpin'?

I didn't like the Sherrilyn Kenyon book "Fantasy Lover" but other did. Here's my reviiew:

I don't like the story of beauty and the beast but I hope you like it!

I'm glad you liked the video.... Yea, that series is sorta fun like chewing bubblegum or going to the mall. ;)
