~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

So nothing too exciting to report but the thread was dying so I'm gonna update you on my reading list: It's lame! - the links are to my reviews

I finally finished Skulduggery Pleasant - kids book. I liked it but had some issues with certain things and can't recommend it.

I finally got back into my posession and finished The Graveyard Book (Neil Gaiman).. it was "meh" but it had alot of hype.

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/57581278

I started and finished in 1/5 days Kari Sweet 16 - yes, that's embarrassing but it was by an author I really like (Libba Bray) and was very unknown due to her probably having wrote it early in her career and not wanting to admit to it. Sadly, amongst the three of these books I enjoyed this one the most. And it was a HORRIBLE SWEET 16 STORY for the 12-15 set!! *sigh* (I need a smiley for a heavy sigh - I tend to do that alot in my writing)

I've been desperate for a good ghost story that scares me! ( but not too much as I am a wimp) so I started but couldn't finish a very angsty and boring ghost story - called The Summoning by a popular paranormal writer Kelly Armstrong (Women of the UNderworld series). This was her first YA book and BLECH.. I was bored to tears.

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/59481673

Bottom line - I've hit a lull in my library finds! LOL I have a few more likely duds to get through that are due next and then I'm going to start the Maximum Ride series which I Have HIGH HOPES for. Wish me luck!

Of these books I would recommend Kari Sweet 16 to the 12-15 y/o girls who like cute formula romance books with witty writing and The Graveyard Book to anybody (just because it was really popular with so many people who are smarter than me so probably I just missed something :confused2: ).

Hope you're all having a good begining to your summer months!

thanks for the update. i started 'a great and terrible beauty' but just couldn't get into it. i'm going to give it a rest and try again next weekend. i'm still rereading the BDB series and am on the last book. i'm glad i reread them i got so much more out of it the 2nd time around, especially because i knew the lingo and was able to spot some important stuff that i didn't realize would be important the first time around.

i've also caught up with my fanfics, who were being ignored recently.

i also bought TRUE BLOOD on DVD and am dying to watch it, i just can't drag myself away from my reading to do it!

Here's my update: I finished reading Poison Study by Maria V Snyder. I really enjoyed it. The romantic part of it is a little confusing but it's really not the major portion of the story so it was no big deal. There was also another character in the story that confused me in that I was like "wait, did or did she not just try to kill the heroine" but in all, a really good read. I liked the main character and all of her friends. I would mainly call this a book of political intrigue set in an alternate reality. I ended up reading the main portion of this book in Hershey Park while waiting for my family to wait in line for the big coasters.;) I just can't handle rides like that-which is just part of why I like WDW and DL-lots for me to ride there! We were in Hershey on Saturday for my husband's company picnic. I sat under an umbrella with a cool drink finishing up this book-it definitely kept my interest even though there were parades of "interesting" people walking by!:rotfl2:

Now I'm reading "Chosen" from The House of Night Series by PC and Kristin Cast. It was the next one on my library pile. I don't think I'm adding anything to that for awhile. I'll be on vacation soon and I don't want to miss picking something up while I'm gone-they only hold them for a week after they come in. I have "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" by Diana Gabaldon to read while I'm on vacation. That one will take me awhile!

I'm tempted to read Poison Study so I can pick your brain for plot help!

You're so lucky to be at an amusement park! I miss being close to one so terribley! I love the big rides and all that great stuff. I'm actually boycotting Hershey for sending their factory work out of the country but that park sure does look fun! Any pictures? What else are you guys doing?

Sorry GATB didn't work for you (at least yet). I know for me I really wish it had been a regular adult book so their could have been more romance but I still loved the goosebumps it gave me and so it holds a high place on my list for striking the right notes on my piano (so to speak). LOL

I wish that I liked the rides like you do but I actually ride more than I used to. My husband is a real ride enthusiast and he just works at me until I'll try something else. It hasn't all been success or else I'd try more. He got me to try Space Mountain in 2000 and I went into hysterics. Logically I know that it only goes about 40 mph but once it started moving I lost it. He said it sounded like someone was cutting off my legs behind him. I freaked him out so badly that he wouldn't talk me into anything else that trip. The next time that we went to WDW I tried BTMRR and loved it. That got me onto Test Track and Mission Space. I realized that what I don't like is heights and that sensation of dropping. I haven't tried Splash Mountain but I really want to. My DH loves that ride and keeps telling me I'm missing a great experience. I would honestly just spend the whole ride stressing about the drop. My girls told me that Hershey was farming out production-that stinks but I can't say that I'm surprised. That seems to be happening all over. I wouldn't pay $50 a ticket to get in there right now but since it was a company picnic it was very cheap.:confused3

Back to the topic-I was just trying to get Poison Study done before you left for your vaca-I wanted to be able to report back! :rotfl2: Seriously, it was pretty good. Not scary though. Our only vaca this summer is to Cape Cod. I have family up there and we're staying with them and seeing some local sights.:woohoo:

I finished Wake and I loved it! It started out a bit slow, but as soon as the character of Cabel was introduced I was hooked! When I get home tomorrow I plan to go out and get the second book, Fade.

CP - is Wake pretty angsty and depressing???

Wake is pretty angsty, but I wouldn't say depressing like Forest of Hands and Teeth was. I'm currently reading the second book Fade, when I'm done I plan to read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows again.

You know I actually enjoyed the Forest of Hands and Teeth. It was depressing but it was such a well told story.

I loved it also, but it was a VERY depressing read.

My husband read it after I did and we were discussing it after he was done. He feels that it was left open in a way that there could be a sequel. I think I would read it. I have an interesting book series to recommend to you. The first book is called the Bone Doll's Twin. It is by Lynn Flewelling. It is a three book series I had a hard time getting into the first one but I stuck it out and I am so glad that I did.

Back from my week long camping trip. Read 5 books -

Karen Marie Moning - Darkfever - loved it!
Uglies, Pretties and Specials - really liked them - interesting and very different
Libby Bray - A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle) - liked it, historical can be difficult for me but I found it really interesting
Now reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood Book 1 and can see what you are all raving about!

jaz parks?? i haven't heard of that. i like the sookie books too. i'm now watching the dvd's of the first season of true blood. not exactly like the books but i love tara and lafayette in the series! i don't really like anna paquin as sookie, but maybe she'll grow on me more.

I never heard of the Jaz Parks series either-hmmm.:thumbsup2 I started reading book 1 the Rachel Morgan series yesterday by Kim Harrison and found out that there are 7 books. This fantasy world is really detailed so I can't skim yet!
So far it's good though.
I felt the same way about Anna Pacquin at first but she's really grown on me. I love Lafayette, too!

The Jaz Parks series is by Jennifer Rardin, and I think the first book was just released on paperback today.

I agree about Anna Pacquin, she is kind of grating, and I too love Lafayette! Need more Eric on the show!
