~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

I have just spent the last week reading the BDB books. Oh my they are addicting. I loved them so much! I have read the first 6. I want to wait to read the 7th book(which I already have) for the plane ride to WDW in a few weeks. So to hold me over I am reading the BDB insider's guide. It also has a short story about Bella, Zsadist and Nalla. I have to say these books had me engrossed. I could not put them down. I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. I was even dreaming of the characters! I will say to anyone who plans to read them, buy them all at once or at least the first 3 in one shot. They are so addicting and will keep you wanting more. I really hope there will be more to this series.

I picked up the book Morrigan's Cross by Nora Roberts. It is book 1 of The Circle Trilogy. I heard it was good so I will give it a try next. that is if I don't go back and reread the BDB books. OK, I am obsessed with those brothers!:lmao:

me too.:lovestruc i'm rereading the series but skipping the lesser parts :::gasp::: it's hard for me to do as I'm usually not the type to skim over anything. i just finished Zsadist's book again and am moving onto Butch's. i also bought the insider guide and read Father Mine, loved it!!

i also have to re-read the series in order, don't know why.. i have Lover Avenged from the library and don't want to give it back!!

have you checked out the authors website? there is a great message board that the author posts on as do the characters. www.jrward.com

I just placed an order for the Uglies series, the Gemma Doyle series, Dark Fever and Dead Witch Walking....plus I still have the first BDB book to read (and will probably be kicking myself that I'm out in the woods without any others in the series) for vacation.

My sister told me today that they're trying to bring stuff for my niece to do because when they asked her over Memorial Day weekend what she wanted to do to keep herself occupied, she said nothing, Julie will be there! Dang it, I love the kid but I need some serious reading time. :) I'm trying to remember if there was anything in Mortal Instruments or Vampire Academy that was really bad for a 12 year old to read and I'll bring those for her.

i think those would be pre-teen safe. what is considered YA anyway...? i've seen some pretty racey stuff in YA books.

I think the Mortal Instruments series is OK for a 12 year old. I don't think Vampire Academy is.

lowie
I will check out her message boards today. I have been to the site, just not the boards.

Also please try not to skip the "lesser" parts! It is so intricle to the story, especially in the 6th book!

I'm sooooo sorry I didn't see this sooner! I was on vacation at the end of May and got back around the 31st and have slowly been jumping back on the boards!

I loooove my Kindle! Both Mom and I have one, and it was a godsend on vacation! I tried the kindle app for my Ipod Touch, and hated it. I can't read that little screen, drove me nuts. I was glad when I got the Kindle, it made it much easier. The screen is awesome, nothing like reading a computer screen. You can get books anytime, you don't need any internet service because it's built right in to the Kindle. I thought I would miss turning the pages of a real book, but I don't. I do still buy a few books, but most of them I get on the Kindle because they are much cheaper! :thumbsup2

Wow, I totally sound like I belong on an infomercial! hahaha I hope this helps you in your decision! I wish I was closer to you, I'd meet up with you and let you play around on the Kindle to see how you liked it!

You know you make a great point about the page turning. I hate page turning! The kindle might be just what I need. Too bad I also need the money!

I could not finish Morrigans Cross. Double blech for me.

Julie, have you considered like Tamora Pierce? My DD12 is a HUGE fan and these are solid books for that age group. She is on my goodreads list (Bailey) and has a great list of books. She's a voracious reader - reading several books a week (and sometimes one per day). If you have any questions about the books on her list at all you can friend her or I'd be happy to chat with you about them. :goodvibes

Oh yeah I am even a major fan of Tamora Pierce. I got major hooked when I read one making sure they were age appropriate for my daughters years ago.

Thanks, I'll try those. My niece is NOT a reader at all unless it's a text message. She finally started to get in to Twilight over Memorial Day weekend a bit but she's put off by the size. She always evaluates by size of book, says it's too big, then reads the last page and starts asking stuff like who's Jacob. We're trying to get her in to reading more so I'll definitely look at those.

So it looks like a vampire series that none of us (to the best of my knowledge) were interested in is making the leap to screen.

Vampire Diaries

An excerpt from Twicrackaddict's blog:

My Two Addictions Collide: Dude From 'Lost' Talks About Twilight

Sorry I haven't been blogging as much lately, folks. There are a couple of things going on with me lately: 1) Work. Yes, I allegedly have a demanding, full-time job. 2) I've become addicted to 'Lost', and have been obsessively catching up on episodes every evening.

I decided to finally check Lost out after friends raved about it, but also after Ian Somerhalder, that dude who plays Boone in Lost, cut me in the drink line at the 100 Monkey's concert in Vancouver. At the time, I only noticed him b/c he was hanging out next to Ashley Greene, and because I was pissed that he got a drink before me. However, I guess Ian is now starring as another type of Vamp in the 'Vampire Diaries', and he spoke to MTV about how Twilight made his show possible:

"[Twilight] is a huge phenomenon, Lost alumnus Ian Somerhalder, who plays a vampire in the new show, admitted to MTV News. "Quite possibly and inarguably, yes [we have a show because of it], so I'm not going to complain. I haven't seen ['Twilight'] yet, so I don't know how it compares, but yeah, it's good that they're around."
"Vampire Diaries," based on the early '90s young-adult novels by L.J. Smith, is the story of Elena (Nina Dobrev) who is torn between a pair of vampire brothers, the tortured and well-meaning Stefan (Paul Wesley) and the devilish Damon (Somerhalder).

"Vampires are very hot. It's fun playing a vampire," Somerhalder said. "You're 200 years old. You can fly around. You can eat beautiful girls — well, you can suck on their neck. I don't physically cut them up and eat them. That would be a little sick."

I'm slowly reading Wake, since I want to save some of it for the plane on Friday. So far so good, though the 3rd person narrative is a bit annoying sometimes.

Hi ladies! I have so been MIA for forever. Great Thread!!! I haven't been around much because I've had my nose stuck in book after book after book after... well you get the idea. I've been chowing down on the Anita Blake series lately. I loved the newest Stackhouse book. I'm dying for DreamFever.

And the preview for New Moon has put The Series back on my reading list. :rotfl:

i've really been wanting to read THE SERIES again, but i'm so hooked on the black dagger brotherhood that i've decided to read them all over again.

i started the Artie Lange book 'too fat to fish' but after just a few pages i decided not to waste my time on it. it felt like an ode to howard stern... i get enough of that everyday while listening to the radio show.

on mel's advice i got 'great and terrible beauty' and the sequel from the library and today i got dark fever and fae fever. i know there is another in the middle but they didn't have it available.

i never read a series out of order though, so unless i can get the other book i won't read fae fever yet.

i'm glad you liked the new sookie book, i didn't like it that much... but i got a great deal on the HBO series on DVD so i bought it.

I'm excited to hear your take on the new stuff you got. I only have one word for the HBO series though: VAMPORN!

PS My email isn't working.. have I missed any new literary installments?

vamporn, huh??? well, alrighty then, i should wait to watch it with DH.

i haven't written anymore... i've been really busy at work and i'm not sure i have the time or inclination to put so much effort into writing a fanfic.

You crack me up! That's exactly the only thing I follow like Twitter, too-plus it's not banned at work so I can look at it while I'm here.

I started a new series (LOVED Vampire Academy, btw)-the first book is called Poison Study I think -it's by Maria V Snyder. I found her on goodreads somehow. It's the first in a trilogy about a young woman who is sentenced to death but the dictator's taster dies and laws specify that the next person sentenced to die gets to taste all the leader's food to check for poisons. She is given the choice between a hanging or a "slow death" due to the potential for poison given by an assasin. The main character is pretty strong and the fantasy world of Ixia in the book is kind of interesting-no supernatural creatures, just a military state where there is no tolerance for rule-breaking or magic which it seems like the heroine might be able to perform. It's pretty good so far. I'll put my final review on goodreads when I'm done. The next book I got from the library is Chosen from The House of Night series.

No problem, I hope you continue but I was just checking in case I missed something.

GMTA! Actually (and perhaps sadly) I already commented on your choice of Poison Study on goodreads. My DMIL loved it and I own it at home but haven't gotten to it yet. I have heard REALLY GOOD Things about it though and will be taking it with me when I go to So Cal for 4th of July (I dont' like to bring library books out of town) if you give it another good review. :flower3:
