~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

well, like a few posters here i am from the twilight thread. i used to be a huge reader but got lazy about reading once my job got more demanding. once i read the twilight series i haven't stopped reading! i'm a fast reader so i'm going through books like crazy. my TV misses me, but all these steamy scenes in the books is making my DH a happy guy. :)

anyway, since the twilight books I've read:

the sookie stackhouse series by charlaine harris, i'm waiting on the 9th book coming out soon. i really liked these, especially the love interests. sookie is a really cute character although the author re-explains everything in each book for those who haven't read the whole series.

the mortal instruments series by cassandra clare, the 1st book left me a bit disappointed, but with urging from others here i went ahead and read the next two books which i really enjoyed.

Evermore by alison noel: a nice book, easy read, about an immortal guy after a human girl. sweet story.

Interview with a Vampire and the vampire Lestat: i went back to my vampire roots and re-read these years after my first foray into vampire infatuation.

house of night series by P.C. and kristin Cast: i liked these books enough. it made me want to go out and get tattoos!

i'm also WAY into reading fanfics! wide awake, the dominant and submissive, isle esme and others. it kills me to read them unfinished as i get antsy for updates. but there is some amazing stuff out there to read.

in my wall unit waiting to be read:

wicked lovely by melissa marr: looks like a cool series. bought only the first today.

Shakespeare's landlord by Charlaine Harris: the writer of the sookie stackhouse series. since i liked those i'd thought i'd try these out. also only bought the first book.

Minion by L.A. Banks: another series that looked good from the outside.

night world by L.J. smith: i bought all three of these although i don't know if they are any good.

uglies by scott westerfeld: because travelmel said so :)

book i started and couldn't get into: this NEVER happens to me, and the book scame highly recommended so i'm surprised. i'm sure a few here have read it and maybe can encourage me to continue.

outlander by diana gabaldon: please someone tell me that it gets better. i struggled through about 150 pages and finally quit. i've never done that before.

Isn't it funny how that works!!

Ahhh... I cannot wait to hear your review of Wicked Lovelies. I'm going to hold off on my opinion till you're done. :)

I couldn't read Outlander either. I thought maybe it was because I'm not smart enough to enjoy that wordy of a book. :confused3

I ordered a ton of books on amazon and then didn't complete the purchase because I'm trying to save money for Disney! Sigh, our library is all the way downtown.... I guess it's time to go through my bookshelves again. If anyone likes books with a bit of fantasy bent, one of my favorite series is Piers Anthony - Incarnations of Immortality.... the first one is On A Pale Horse. In it a guy accidentally kills the incarnation of Death which turns out to be a mortal person. He inherits the job and has to learn how to be Death. Turns out Mother Nature, Time, War, the Fates, etc are all offices filled by mortal people. I know, sounds weird, but they're good books.

Have you tried the "Holds" section of your library??? You can search for books online and have them held for you at the library. Let several stack up then go grab them! I would be in big trouble without the library!

That Piers Anthony book sounds really good. Here's what happened to me with Sci-Fi... I read some books.. loved them ... but it was my first time with a series and it went ON and ON and ON and ON and ON and ON and ON and ON and ON and THEN... THEN.... there was another book and it wasn't out yet. I was so irriated. It was like a soap opera. I like some closure!

No fear, the Incarnations of Immortality series is only 6 books. I had the same thing happen to me when I started reading ripped covers that were fantasy/sci fi at the bookstore I worked at. Everything is a gigantic SERIES! And I kept reading a book that should be in the middle!

The Time book which is I think third in the series is a little hard to get through because he lives backwards as compared to everyone else. Was interesting, but a bit confusing! Other than that, loved the series.

Ok, it's on my "to read" shelf! :thumbsup2

Of course it's alonside like 101 other books but... who's counting??

OMG! I just finished Vampire Academy...I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tell us what you loved about it. should i go get me a copy?

i started UGLIES today, i haven't had lots of time to read so i'm only about 20 pages in. so far it's easy to read.

There's not really much Vampire action in it, but it's different and interesting. There's romance, hotness, and a kick-*** protagonist!

Ooo Great idea for a thread!

Post-Twilight I've picked up the Southern Vampire series (which I haven't started yet).. and I've read the first two of the the Queen Betsy series by Mary Janice Davidson

and non-vampire related but still "paranormal romance" I like the Aisling Gray Series by Katie MacAllister (and the Silver dragon spin off series also by MacAllister)

:cool1:

CP, Yup, VA was pretty good. I started "Vampire Diaries" but I couldn't get into it. THere wasn't anything particularly snappy about the diagolgue or situations. :confused3

I like VA book two the best! Of course the last book is a sort of a cliffhanger. SIGH!

Lowie, Keep up the work on Uglies... I look forward to your review!

Write Disney, WELCOME! Thanks for the suggestions!

Ok, I'm gone for the weekend! Peace out!

Oh no! They don't have Frostbite at any of the Borders! I should've bought in on Tuesday when they had it! :scared1: :(

IT's a cliffhanger, too! I am going to check to see when the next one comes out..

The 4th book....Blood Promise.... comes out in July 2009.

well, UGLIES was just OK for me. i wish there was a better explanation in the beginning about the ugly/pretty world and how it came about. i also wish there was a bit more geography in it. let us know where in the world it was set, near what big rusty city. it was a bit too sci-fi for me, but on the other hand, it may have been better if it was MORE sci-fi.

the concept is very cool though, and since it was a cliff hanger i will read the next book.

i've just started following my 5th fanfic. it's hard to keep up with all the edwards and bellas!

Gotcha... I don't read alot (none, really) of sci-fi so maybe the lack of info didn't bother me as much because I wasn't expecting anything. :confused3 I thought it was fun and it kind of reminded me a tiny bit of The Host which I loved.

I haven't read one bit of fan fiction. I don't like to read on the computer (believe it or not). It makes me a bit of a leper on the boards but I can't help it. I haven't even finished the ultimate fan fic (Midnight Sun) for that very reason.. hard on my eyes and back.

Plus, I don't like the idea of the character names. I think if I printed it out.. highlighed all the "Edwards" and put in "Thomas" or something else it would be better. :rotfl:

well, the biggie fanfic, wide awake, will most likely get published and all the character names will then have to be changed. for a reader, though, it is an amazing story, if it wasn't over 600 pages i'd print it and mail it to you!

i loved the host as well. it took my a while to get into it, but in the end i was very satified with it.

i was able to get PRETTIES and EXTRAS from the library and they had SPECIALS on their 'for sale' table. in fact i bought an armload of books for $6.00! i love when that happens!
