~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

It would be worth it :thumbsup2

Hi! My name is SOnotLayuh, and I am a YA-book-aholic :lovestruc

I have to agree with the people who have recommended the Moral Instruments series. Something seemed...off.... about it, but it was a nice read anyway. The author used to write Harry Potter fanfiction, and her story - The Draco Trilogy - is one of the best fan fictions I've read... and I've been a fanficcer for about 10+ years (which makes me sound sooo nerdy, I know!)

Anyway - hello fellow readers! I'm subscribing :cutie:

WELCOME! :D I am so bad.... I totally haunt the YA section of the library. So you will like this.. I asked if i could use the internet while I was in there so I could go onto goodreads.com and read about a book to see if I wanted to rent it and the lady had to tell me NO because the computer's were reserved for YOUNG ADULTS only in there! :headache: I was so embarrassed!

If you are a book hound you might enjoy goodreads.com.. it's a good place to find reviews and also log your own reading as well.

Hi, Ladies! It's been forever since I've been on this thread.
PS You people hadn't read Harry Potter?????:scared1:

:rolleyes1 Alright, alright... but it was exactly like Areley's put it.... the first book was boring cause it was exactly like the movie. I loved the first movie and the rest of them were lame for me. I promise I will get to them soon now that I have been scolded.... I mean persuaded.... so effectively. :goodvibes

P.S. I'm on the latest HoN book and hating it. I am so sick of the characters I could spit. Blech.

Hey, I didn't read Harry Potter either!

And let me admit to another indiscretion.

So, I've had a bit of an interruption in my reading. See, we got Netflix and there's this little show called LOST that I have never seen (had two kids since it first aired, life gets in the way, you know how it is.) So now, DH and I have been staying up late watching LOST episodes. I'm addicted. Only about 150 hours to go! OME, what I have been missing all these years. Love this show. I think I have an advantage being able to watch the episodes back to back, not having to wait a week between shows or months between seasons.

Needless to say, my Demonica book has been put on the backburner. I told hubby that I really want to read, but I have to figure out what's going on with Lost!! LOL

I followed Lost up until this season. I need to catch up. I am so glad they are ending it. My big fear was that it was going to get canceled and we would never have anythign solved!

Ok, that's it all 3 of you have to stop everything and read Harry Potter now!!!!!:rotfl2:

I am mad cause I don't have any new books here to read and we are snowed in!! So far 22 inches of snow and it's still snowing! Perfect day to curl up with a good book.

What the heck?! Snowed in w/o books?? Sounds like you need to hook up some fan fic? I hate reading on the computer...which leaves me out of the loop bigtime.

I read and loved all the Harry Potter books. The movies were totally not a good representation of the books, the characters from the books were well developed people.

Plow on with Hunger Games. It unfolds into a wonderful story. I was that way with the Maze Runner and I ended up really enjoying it.

I'm going to look up Maze Runner now. :)

EVERYONE MUST READ HARRY POTTER!!!

Ok, back on topic. I picked up the Hunger Games last night & read the first chapter during my lunch break today. So far so good. :thumbsup2

Hunger Games was out of my "usual" type of books but I found it gripping.

I promise not to put anymore holds on library books until I read the Harry Potter series. Of course that means after all the holds I have are gone. It could be a little while still. At least I know they'll be plenty of people to talk about them with! LOL :wizard:

I'm finishing up the last HoN book (hate it) and listening to a new author (for me) that I am loving... the stories might not be for everyone but the way the author writes is very lyrical to me. She sounds poetic and I love listening to them in the car. It relaxes me BUT keeps me interested.... that's a tough mix to find. The author is: Juliet Marillier and the first book I read (listened) to by her was Wildwood Dancing.

I've been trying to read the last HoN book Mel. I hate it also. I just can't get into it. I've been trying to read it since it was released. I keep moving on to other books and coming back to it.

i gave up on it and returned it to the library. i'm glad i didn't buy it.

I finished reading Beastly. I really liked it, though there was a LOT of cheesiness. Still, it was something different.

I finished it and just as it started to pull me in a little bit with some action/plot it ended in a huge and unsatisfying cliff hanger. So. Totally. Lame. I was sick of their bull-poopie in the last book and the characters have done nothing but irritate me in this book but ah hell I am probably going to end up reading the next. Blessed be.

I just wanna take a moment to recognize my kid. She is also on goodreads and in the last year she has added 460 books to her list. It's really amazing. She reads a book a day...some days a little more and some days a little less but not much. She started almost a year ago exactly. A-mazing.

When we go to the bookstore and look at the current books on the shelf she has read probably 75% of them (and their precursers if it is a series). It's crazy. She's only 13.

:banana::banana: that's really awesome mel! does she do 'reading counts' at school.. if so how many points does she have this year?

my son is a great reader but sadly my daughter isn't. she'll only read what is absolutely necessary for school and an occasional book for pleasure.

Thanks, Deb :goodvibes

I'm not sure how old yours are? Bailey wasn't always this dedicated... and Cassidy (the non reader) will go through with one once in awhile. I keep putting them in front of her though.. sorta like broccolli. LOL :)

I'm not reading anything sci-fi -ish right now. Just good old Alice's Adventures in Wonderland :P

Did you see the movie? I thought it was beautiful! The plot, however, was too linear. Here's what we're going to do and wow, now we've done it, the end.

The queen was amazing but the rest of the characters were forgettable. I wish there would have been some interest in the voices of the rabbit and cat... lots of characters sounded the same. The catepillar sounded slightly unique but, of course, just like Snape from Harry Potter. I wanted more amusement in the dialogue, too. The screen play was lack-luster.

I realize they were trying to be more faithful to the book but, for me, it lost it's charm. The seriousness of the Hatter's dilema was at least somewhat interesting due to Johnny Depp's portrayal but I've seen the "crazy" thing done much better recently by the Ellen Degenneres character in Finding Nemo.

I had high expectations for this... it was definitely seamless when it came to the CGI. It was so amazing.. made Benjamin Buttons look like a nothin. The mixture of real life and CGI was absolutely astounding to me. I loved every minute of that. Only Crispin Glovers character on the horse looked odd.

And, again.. the Queen stole the show. She just absolutely NAILED it. I would have loved to see her character actually go to the good side.... I thought she might when she revealed that she was unsure of whether or not she preferred love or power. Long live the QUEEN!

I did see the movie, twice actually. I loved it, it was nice that it got the feel of the book and that they left original poems and such from the book. Plus, I enjoyed the plot quite a bit.

:thumbsup2 I agree Mel! I never saw the cartoon version so I didn't know how the story went. The character who I did not care for most was the girl who played Alice. I thought they cast her part very poorly, I just didn't care for her. The Queen definitely cracked me up, she was great! I loved Johnny Depp too.

I am starting a new book today. It is called, The Dead Tossed Waves. It is the companion book to The Forest of Hands and Teeth.
