~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

I'd say read The Mortal Instruments series first, then Hunger Games and then The Host. They're all great books though!

i read "intertwined" by gina showalter this week.. A YA book. i don't know why but when i saw the book it called to me. i just had a feeling that i'd love it. the premise seemed very interesting. a young guy with 4 souls in his body. i really thought there would be more interaction within his mind but it isn't the forefront of the book.

I just looked up Intertwined on goodreads. It does sound good! Hmph... but it sounds like you had a letdown with it... intrigueing though. It sounds a little bit like The Host with the extra soul and all. ;)

Also I read a YA series by Kelly Armstrong called the Darkest Powers Trilogy.

I also just finished Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I really don't know how I feel about this book. It's a great premise, I was really into it and read it in half a day, but afterwards I was confused.

I am in the middle of reading The Graveyard book but can't seem to get through it. These other books keep grabbing my attention away from it!

I only got through 1/2 of the first book of the Darkest Power Trilogy (The Summoning). I thought the characters were really ... I dunno... not likeable at all. I wish I would have liked it cause that author is really prolific but it turned me off to her other works. Maybe someday..

There was a review on goodreads that echoed your sentiment of confusion. It's like the second one down by "Misty" that says: SPOILER RANT AT THE BOTTOM. You might enjoy commiserating with her ;)

I have to agree with you about The Graveyard Book. I felt like that book was hyped because of the author but I found it to be just "ok." I much preferred Anansi Boys (especially as read by the book on tape reader who does great accents!)

P.S. I loved your vowel renewal TR... cake was SO pretty!

Hey ladies! I haven't been on this thread in SO long (I actually haven't been on the DIS much at all lately.)

I've been reading Harry Potter for the past few months & am about to finish Deathly Hallows (about 83 pages to go!) I'm very late to the party, but I must say, the entire Harry Potter series is fantastic. Honestly, they some of the best books I have ever read. JK Rowling is a truly incredible writer. I'm already predicting tears when I finish DH because it will be such a let down to know that I won't have any more books in the series to read.

I'm trying to figure out what to read next. The Host? Hunger Games? City of Bones? Any suggestions? I have a huge list on good reads, but I can't figure out which book out of the dozens should be next.

Hi!

I have not read the Harry Potter series :scared1: I know, I know!

We listened to book one on tape. I should keep going. I just feel like I know what's going to happen in that as opposed to other books which have an air of mystery.

As far as your choices:

Mortal Instruments: Action packed adventure/romance.. pretty gripping.

Hunger Games: Unlike any of the books in the "Twilight" or paranormal romance type stuff. It's sorta serious with some pretty graphic violence. Normally I would HATE serious with graphic violence but this is a gripping storyline and a great book, IMO.

The Host: My favorite of all of these books. WARNING: The first 1/8 or so of the book is LAME and CONFUSING. Please don't let this keep you from continueing. I promise it gets better.. downright great in my opinion. I found it remarkably thought provoking. My DH read it too and loved it. We had some great discussions about it. It makes you question what human means. Great book. I was really impressed with Stephanie for coming up with such a totally profound and interesting PLUS well rounded and satisfying huge read.

Enjoy!

i hate that i may be turning people away from reading Intertwined. others may really love it.. maybe just don't PAY for it like i did. try to get it at the library ;)

i also have not read the ahrry potter books although i own them. my son really liked them (he started reading them at 8 y.o.). maybe i'll make that my next series to read (after the demonica series)

mortal instruments, if i remember correctly i didn't love book one but really liked 2 and 3.

you are right on the money about the Host. I really loved this book. i tried to listen to it on audio but couldn't stand the reader.

as for the demonica books. i'm about 1/2 way through the first and i'm haivng a love/hate relationship with this book. i'm going to stick with it though and trust everyone that say the series is so good.

Keep reading! I totally wanted to quit, I felt I was reading medical textbooks in her descriptions of their, umm, amorous times, still disliked it after the first few chapters, but it got pretty good, and I've been told the books only get better!

I think that is what I will do. Just get Intertwined from my library!

As for the Demonica books, Yes, trust me, stick with it! They are a great series and the books get better and better!

**I think you should finish the book and give it another chance. I wasn't hooked right away but the characters totally redeem themselves! The 2nd book was even better and I really now loved them both.

**I will check out that review!

**Thank you so much!!!

Ok, I am shocked!:lmao: I can't believe you haven't read the Harry Potter books! Go read them right now!;)

Hey, I didn't read Harry Potter either!

And let me admit to another indiscretion.

So, I've had a bit of an interruption in my reading. See, we got Netflix and there's this little show called LOST that I have never seen (had two kids since it first aired, life gets in the way, you know how it is.) So now, DH and I have been staying up late watching LOST episodes. I'm addicted. Only about 150 hours to go! OME, what I have been missing all these years. Love this show. I think I have an advantage being able to watch the episodes back to back, not having to wait a week between shows or months between seasons.

Needless to say, my Demonica book has been put on the backburner. I told hubby that I really want to read, but I have to figure out what's going on with Lost!! LOL

Ok, that's it all 3 of you have to stop everything and read Harry Potter now!!!!!:rotfl2:

The movies don't even compare to the books. The books were amazing. The writing is fabulous, the world that J K Rowling creates is amazing. I did like the movies too, but the characters were different in the books. Just so much better, so much more detail, etc.... I have read them all multiple times and was just as obsessed with Harry Potter as I was with Twilight!

Right now I am not reading anything. I tried again with Hunger Games but something must be wrong with me cause I just can't get into it!

I am mad cause I don't have any new books here to read and we are snowed in!! So far 22 inches of snow and it's still snowing! Perfect day to curl up with a good book.

I read and loved all the Harry Potter books. The movies were totally not a good representation of the books, the characters from the books were well developed people.

Plow on with Hunger Games. It unfolds into a wonderful story. I was that way with the Maze Runner and I ended up really enjoying it.

EVERYONE MUST READ HARRY POTTER!!!
I saw all the movies first & really, really loved them all (especially Prisoner of Azkaban.) My boyfriend kept telling me that I just had to read the books because there was no comparison. I started on the 1st one & it took me so long to get through it because it was pretty close to the movie & I was kind of bored. I powered through it & each book just got better & better. I finished Deathly Hallows yesterday & I have never loved a book series as much as I love Harry Potter right now. The bad part is now that I have read the books, the Order of the Phoenix & the Half-Blood Prince movies both anger me to no end with all the good stuff they left out. I'm just hoping that they do Deathly Hallows justice because that book was just incredible.

Tarra - this is so off-topic, but I LOVE Lost. I'm honestly obsessed (you should see how I blow up Twitter when it's on.) I didn't start watching until just after season 4 ended, but I have been hooked from the very first episode. I'm glad you are enjoying it, it's such an awesome show. This season so far is killer, you are going to love it once you get to it. What season are you on right now?

Ok, back on topic. I picked up the Hunger Games last night & read the first chapter during my lunch break today. So far so good. :thumbsup2

maybe we should start a Harry Potter reading group!

i'm also having issues with True Blood from HBO. it's taking time away from my reading. although i'm watching it, i'm not too impressed but i'm a sookie sucker....

:rotfl::rotfl: and i'm mad because i had to wear a sweater today! lmao. it's 63 degrees right now... sunny and cloudless... too darn cold for me though.

Rowling won't let Amazon put her books on the Kindle.:confused3 But my dd's school had the collection of all the books for $54 at their book fair. Hmmm, wonder if I should go and "donate" to the school.;)

It would be worth it :thumbsup2

Hi! My name is SOnotLayuh, and I am a YA-book-aholic :lovestruc

I have to agree with the people who have recommended the Moral Instruments series. Something seemed...off.... about it, but it was a nice read anyway. The author used to write Harry Potter fanfiction, and her story - The Draco Trilogy - is one of the best fan fictions I've read... and I've been a fanficcer for about 10+ years (which makes me sound sooo nerdy, I know!)

Anyway - hello fellow readers! I'm subscribing :cutie:

i buy lots of books used at my public library and have gotten a bunch of HP there for 50 cents soft cover and $2 hard covers. my son already had them all as a gift from my sister. so my used ones i bought i donated to his class.

i have extras of books 1 and 4 if you want some i'll keep an eye out for the rest and mail them.. media mail can't cost much.

Hi, Ladies! It's been forever since I've been on this thread. I just got so obsessed reading Twilight fanfiction (some of it over and over) that my regular reading suffered as a result. The last time I was on here, you guys were talking about the 4th VA book and I hadn't read the third yet so I was trying to stay away until I had caught up with at least one series! :lmao: Anyway, friggin A-the 4th book was incredible!:lovestruc I know you were't fond of it, Mel and I get your reasoning but I just love Rose and Dmitri. I like Adrian too-I'm starting to feel like it's Bella, Edward and Jacob all over again-meaning that I like Adrian but don't want him with Rose. I keep thinking I'm caught up with the HoN series but then I realize that there's another book out. I think I'm two behind. I don't like that as much as VA. I'm finally caught up with the Sookie series and only have the Rehv book to read in BDB. Shiver is on my to-read list. I really liked Mel's review of that so I want to try that out. I just placed an order with Amazon for the first 4 VA books because I want to read them back to back and also book 5 of VA and the first book in another series by Richelle Mead. Thanks for all the recs everyone! :worship: Welcome to the newcomers!:woohoo:

Oh, if anyone is looking for a very funny chick-lit book-try "The Unidentified Redhead" by Alice Clayton. I think only omnificpublishing.com is selling it so far. It used to be fanfic called "I Love LA". It is hilarious and the book is only the first 2/3 of the original story. Alice is talking about making it a trilogy. It's about a 33 year old woman who is an aspiring actress (kind of a second career) who meets a younger actor who's all the rage and their relationship. I found it LOL funny. It's not YA....not that there's anything wrong with that but be prepared.

PS You people hadn't read Harry Potter?????:scared1:

i just bought the HON books for 25 cents each today!! too bad i already had them (got them originally for 50% off). i just can't pass up a good deal on books.

i loved "I love LA"!!! where do we get a copy?

:::hanging head in shame::: yes we have a few of us who are HP virgins.... i promise it's on my to-read list!

You have to buy it right from their website-www.omnificpublishing.com. I think it's a bunch of fanfic people that got together and started their own publishing company. Since you are an experienced I love LA reader, I'll tell you that Alice said she's making it a trilogy and this first book only takes you to where Grace moves to NY. It's actually not a bad place to end the first one-I'm looking forward to reading the rest, too since it will include new material. You can also buy it as an ebook on the website.:surfweb:
