Hi - Behind again, but I wanted to invite you all to my cruise report - sailing to jamaica and comparing RCCL to DCL - Join me if you Dare! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=38708391#post38708391

Yes!! I will definitely be over to check it out tonight!! Thanks for the heads up!

Liesa, hope all of your busy weekend went smoothly! I'm sure you did great with your talk. Can't wait to hear all about it and see the pics of the weekend events!

It did. These kinds of things always go smoother than you think they're going to. Funny, how you can prepare to say the same thing for for both services, but what comes out is completely different. :rotfl2:

Liesa,
Those gowns are just lovely! Was your ball this weekend? How did it go?
I love to sew I used to when my kids were much younger. I loved to make my DD Christmas dresses I saved everyone. I wish I had more time to sew, but the kids are so busy I have no time.

Wendy

Hiya Wendy!

Thanks! The ball was incredible!! So. much. fun!! My favorite thing I ever made was a pilgrim I may do that again this year for Anara.

The next ball is a Christmas themed ball, so I think rather than sew right up until 10 minutes before we left this time, I'll start those costumes now. It's a great way to teach the girls to sew! :thumbsup2

Hi Liesa, those gowns are very pretty! I hope your presentation yesterday was well received! I hope life will be a bit easier for you this week. :goodvibes

It was very well received, if a standing ovation is any indication of how things went... :confused3

Morning Liesa I am trying to keep up with all my threads to day , Have been sooo busy with work since I got back!!

I haven't been on my other threads for a few days- I cringe to think of how far behind I am.

Liesa, I hope the events went well this weekend. I am sure you did great with your talk/presentation.

THey went very well! I can't wait for the next ball in a few months!! And VERY glad the in-front-of-the-church thing is over!

I confess, the words "invisible zipper" make my skin crawl. Just when I think I might get inspired to sew again, words like that remind me that I really don't have the patience to do it right. I hope many pictures were taken, joyous times were had and you danced your feet off.

no nuts. Bleh.

And if it makes you feel better, I went to bed at 9:15 on Saturday night, utterly worn out and slept for 11 hours.

Really??! I totally would have pegged you as a walnuts in baked goods kinda gal.

I actually got sick last night- I think it's the flu after a stressful week illness. I went to bed at 3:00 in the afternoon, and didn't get up until about 3:00 this afternoon. Achy, fever, yucky stuff.

My feet were aching about an hour into the ball though.

Do you mind a late comer? ;) I followed you over from Brook's report and I've loved all of your updates. What an adventure for sure!!

Absolutely NOT!!! We love new faces around here- and so with that: :welcome: to our little party!!! We get kinda crazy around here, so hang on tight, and make yourself comfortable!!!

Hey Liesa!

I aint even gonna try to catch up on all the banter. But I did enjoy the latest episodes. Love the photos of the old church.

I'm glad you finally arrived at the hotel and that the hurling was mostly done before anyone looke at that light fixtures. ('Cause goodness knows there would have been hurling afterwards.)

I know... you get to a certain amount behind, and it becomes hopeless!!

Yes, I know! That light was pretty atrocious, but certainly made for some good TRing! :lmao:

Very impressive costumes!

I don't even know half of the characters you just mentioned. Now, if you'd thrown in a Boba Fett or Dr. McCoy....

Aw, sorry to read about your daughter. It's going to take some adjusting. (As if I know what I'm talking about. You know it better than I do.)

Ok, I give up... who is Boba Fett??

Yes, she is having a much harder time than all my other kids. Luckily there is another family who spent about 20 years in Nigeria, and she was sitting next to us. We are getting together for dinner on Tuesday night and will talk to them about how they shepherded their kids through the transition back.

Wow the gowns turned out great and it looks like a great time.

I am sure the cop did not want to stand out in the rain writing you a ticket any more than you did, so it ends well. :thumbsup2

Sorry you are feeling under the weather.

Glad the presentation went well. Sorry your daughter had such a strong reaction. I know you were able to calm her down but I am sure it was hard to see.

Liesa, everyones gowns look great. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. I've never, obviously, been in a situation like that, but I am sure it is a huge change for her. With your loving ways, I'm sure she'll be fine.

That is too funny about the red light. Someone was looking out for you that night so you could keep your dress on. ;)

We did have a wonderful time!! And I'm so glad I could keep my dress on!!

You're right! It was raining pretty hard- so I doubt he wanted to stand out there and write me up.

Time for a hot bath....

She'll be fine in time- I have faith she will come out in the end strong and whole.

She will be fine, and in the end come to know that her experiences over there have really built her faith, and enriched her life. But it will take time, and support.

A bounty hunter from Star Wars. Who is poor Mr. Collins?

I'm sure my kids would have gotten that one in about 2 milliseconds. Mr. Collins is a buffoon in Pride and Prejudice who biffs every social encounter he has. THere is one particular scene that is so painful to watch where he completely botches a dance embarrasing his cousins.

:scared1::scared1::scared1: I was right, Glenn!! My kid answered in about 2 milliseconds!! I couldn't believe Bek knew that!!!

The church we had visited was, as you saw, stunning, but this was only the beginning of the wondrous things we’d see in Bavaria! And to think, a long trip to Disney was just on the horizon for me- and before that, many more amazing adventures would be in store for me and our family!

We left St. Sebald’s Church, and headed back to Mooseville to check on our kids. They were completely O.U.T!!; which was such a beautiful sight to behold knowing what they’d just gone through. We didn’t dare wake them more than just to say we were going out to explore more, and we’d be back later. Anara was refreshed and ready to head out with us- it was lunch time now, and time to see what culinary delights Southern Germany could offer up. On our way home from the church, we spied a very likely candidate that we thought looked tasty- at least the savory scents wafting from within were enough to lure us back. So, fairly skipping back towards the church, down one of the quaint little streets, we entered a place I simply cannot remember the name of. I do know that Magdalene will know the exact name of it. On the way, we saw a little of this:

And a little of that:

DSCN8347.jpg

My mouth was watering before I ever sat down in this warm, small café, in which the cooking fire was situated in the middle. Tables were packed in there pretty tightly, and the atmosphere was happy and lighthearted. Even pets were welcome to join their masters as they dined.
DSCN8357.jpg

DSCN8356.jpg

All around the walls were shelves decorated with pewter plates, mugs and other assorted dishes.
DSCN8362.jpg

We were seated at a table right up against the cooking area, and we were practically mesmerized by the masterful cooking and platter-making by the 3 cooks. One rolled the sausages along the grill, one re-stocked the kraut and breads, and another actually dished up the food.
DSCN8353.jpg

The waitress filled up our bread and pretzel basket to the allotted number, so when we had finished eating she’d know exactly how many to charge us for. Pretty ingenious method, I thought.
DSCN8361.jpg

We opted for 2 “specials” which was almost not quite enough. Each came with 2 “sandwiches” of a roll, 3 sausages on each one, and a big pile of sauerkraut. WOW!!! I cannot even come close to describing how scrumptious this food was! The kraut was not even close to that nasty stuff you can buy in a can around here- excellently spiced with juniper berries, cracked pepper, and onion. YUM!!!! The rolls were perfectly browned, crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The sausages themselves were the piece de resistance! Juicy, savory, and perfect in every way! Every paired up with spicy brown mustard, and voila! A meal I could eat every day!

The verdict….

DSCN8355.jpg

After our tastiest of meals, it was back to the Hotel Elch to check on the sick ones. On the way, we couldn’t help but to notice these little numbers.

But the question is: Did we partake? Or not?

And with your mouth-watering, I'll wish you a very Magical Day!!

Liesa, great to have you back to posting!! And with two updates! :cool1:

The ball looked like a fantastic event! I am impressed in how much effort everyone put into their costumes. I can't imagine an event like this happening here in Germany. And you and your daughters all looked wonderful. :goodvibes Who organized this event? Is it an annual thing?

I am glad that your presentation on Sunday went well (as I was sure it was) - standing ovation for sure means that it was well received! Poor Mikki, I hope she will get through the transition over time!

The restaurant in Nuremberg is called "Bratwursthäusle" which means little house of grilled sausages... :goodvibes It is one of those places which are very touristy, but lots of locals hang out there as well. They have the best sausages. I went there with Wendy and her DH as well, and they loved it, too! I have never been at one of those tables next to the grill (which by the way is fired with beechwood), so I had no idea that there was a show going on! :lmao: The three sausages in a bun are usually served to go - a very popular street food in Nuremberg and something everyone gets at the Christmas market, followed by some Glühwein and gingerbread. :cloud9:

It took me forever to finally get through on here. Every time I come on here of late the boards are going down and I can't post. I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. :goodvibes

The Ball looked like it was so much fun! I really hope you had as great a time as you had hoped.

I'm glad you didn't have to lose your dress to the cop!
That would have been really embarrassing!

Your hair looked great by the way, I didn't notice that big of a difference from when you had it done the first time, may have been the light didn't give me an accurate look. All in all your hair looked wonderful!

I'm so happy your speech went well. I hate to hear your daughter is having such a tough time of it, she'll come around soon. With her age it probably is the hardest on her, that's such a sucky age, probably the toughest to get through in the teen years. Poor. sweet, baby girl.

Looooove the pictures of Germany!! I think I've finally come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to find a job so I can finally travel to all the places I want to see. My DH isn't much for wanting to travel, so I'll need a traveling partner. :rolleyes1 Think you could join me on some adventures in the future?

I'm thinking some time in Italy, I'd like to visit Greece, and I'll have a friend in France before to long so that's a must and of course it goes without saying... Germany.:lovestruc
If I'm in Europe I'm thinking it's a must to see as many places as possible while there. Of course none of this is to be done right away, but I don't want to wait until I'm too old to enjoy it. All in good time, all in good time.
I wish I were more bold and had made myself get out there and enjoy all that God has to offer by traveling more, Europeans have that in spades it seems. Is it more an American thing to not be more adventure like? Or just a me thing? :confused3
Sorry to highjack, I'm slobbering over here thinking about traveling, it's all your fault for posting those amazing pictures!

I'll call you very soon. PM me a good time. :goodvibes

Oh my goodness we did eat here with Magdelena! I think we may have even eaten at the table with the lady with the stripped shirt. I agree it was the best sausages ever! We ordered the 6 sausages I had potato salad (yum!) and Dave had kraut! I had a pretzel too.. Dave said after Magdelena left he could have eaten 12 of those sausages! :rotfl:

I am so glad the ball and presentation went so well! You poor daughter it must have been very emotional for her. All the dresses at the ball we beautiful.

I keep telling Dave that I want to come to Germany once during Christmas. I have heard that Nuremburg has a fantastic Christmas Market.

Liesa, finally got through the two new updates. The gowns ended up looking great! Interesting the sword in your belt. Was that to make sure the boys stayed away from your daughters, or to threaten them if they tried to??? :lmao:

Glad the talk went well. It is so funny how we worry about stuff like that and having enough to say, when our minds are so full of information and you just get up and share and wonder where the time went! Funny that you had so much your talks turned out different, but not surprising either! :)

I'm not a big kraut fan, but that does sound pretty good, and I'm sure it is probably much better than the "Americanized" versions you get here. I probably would have gone for the potato salad like Wendy though. The rest looks/sounds delish! And I'm guessing the gingerbread would be a nice finishing touch, like Magdalene mentioned. Since I don't know what Glühwein is, I will have to reserve judgement on that. :confused3

And it's a good thing they don't have shops around here with all those pastries and goodies! Those look so yummy, even the little bugs, and I would probably be needing my arteries cleaned out every other week!

We started our evening at the elegant eating establishment of Taco Bell:

Ball008-1.jpg

Judging from the clientele and the way they're dressed, that has to be the classiest Taco Bell I've ever seen.

My goodness. I'm gonna have to break this one out again:

a2970114-48-drooling-homer-simpson.jpg

Really enjoying the pictures of Germany. The town just has that historical "feel" to it. Looks like a fascinating place.

The ball looks like so much fun! "May I have this dance," and a bow? I love it!

DS and I both agree, I like those ladybugs! They look so neat. But I'm really drooling over the pretzels. :lmao:

Oh my gosh! I want that sausage and kraut meal!
Drooling.gif

Forgot to mention....when I was in Europe I was always shocked to see dogs in the restaurants and coffee houses also. We have a dog, so I didn't mind it, I just thought it was strange.
