Back with repies in a bit... off to get kids out the door. :goodvibes

Mark and I love German food and that looks so very, very good. I can almost taste it the way you described it.

Can't wait to see if you indulged in some of those goodies.

Liesa, great to have you back to posting!! And with two updates!

I"m really hoping life settles down again for a little while, and I can devote a bit more time to this and my blog- which I've neglected terribly the last several months. :headache:

The ball looked like a fantastic event! I am impressed in how much effort everyone put into their costumes. I can't imagine an event like this happening here in Germany. And you and your daughters all looked wonderful. :goodvibes Who organized this event? Is it an annual thing?

Actually there are balls every 2 months with this group. Each one has a different theme, but it is always English Country dancing. The next ball is titled "The 12 Days of Christmas". Andrew will be home for that one, and he wants to go as one of the 12 Lords a' Leaping, and wants me to make him a cape for it. Anyway, it was started by a family who just had an interest in it, and started it as a way for people to get together and have a good time around a common interest. Every Thursday they also get together for lessons, so you can come to the balls knowing a bit more. After we move, we may start going to those. :confused3

I am glad that your presentation on Sunday went well (as I was sure it was) - standing ovation for sure means that it was well received! Poor Mikki, I hope she will get through the transition over time!

She will in time get over it. Meantime, she is really needing extra TLC.

The restaurant in Nuremberg is called "Bratwursthäusle" which means little house of grilled sausages... :goodvibes It is one of those places which are very touristy, but lots of locals hang out there as well. They have the best sausages. I went there with Wendy and her DH as well, and they loved it, too! I have never been at one of those tables next to the grill (which by the way is fired with beechwood), so I had no idea that there was a show going on! :lmao: The three sausages in a bun are usually served to go - a very popular street food in Nuremberg and something everyone gets at the Christmas market, followed by some Glühwein and gingerbread. :cloud9:

Haha! Yeah, it was kinda like the Teppan Edo. :lmao: Hadn't thought of it that way before.

Honestly, we saw very few tourists, most were speaking German, and seemed very relaxed in their surroundings. I thought this might have been the place you had taken Wendy, and I remembered you knew the name because when we told you where we had gone for lunch you spouted off the name no problem. We saved our Gingerbread for later....;)

It took me forever to finally get through on here. Every time I come on here of late the boards are going down and I can't post. I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. :goodvibes

The Ball looked like it was so much fun! I really hope you had as great a time as you had hoped.

I'm glad you didn't have to lose your dress to the cop!
That would have been really embarrassing!

We had a great time!! I may have even talked Mike into going next time. :woohoo: As for losing my dress- ummm.... that wouldn't have been the first time. :scared1: In public. At a dance. I'm dead serious.

Your hair looked great by the way, I didn't notice that big of a difference from when you had it done the first time, may have been the light didn't give me an accurate look. All in all your hair looked wonderful!

It's much darker. And redder. I like it; but it's so different.

I'm so happy your speech went well. I hate to hear your daughter is having such a tough time of it, she'll come around soon. With her age it probably is the hardest on her, that's such a sucky age, probably the toughest to get through in the teen years. Poor. sweet, baby girl.
hug_pet.gif

I think of all of them, it is hardest on here- and yes, because of her age. She has no recollection of the US before we left, and spent most of her life there. Teens are harder to face transition than say, my younger 2, who are pretty adaptable.

Looooove the pictures of Germany!! I think I've finally come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to find a job so I can finally travel to all the places I want to see. My DH isn't much for wanting to travel, so I'll need a traveling partner. :rolleyes1 Think you could join me on some adventures in the future?

SURE!!!

I'm thinking some time in Italy, I'd like to visit Greece, and I'll have a friend in France before to long so that's a must and of course it goes without saying... Germany.:lovestruc
If I'm in Europe I'm thinking it's a must to see as many places as possible while there. Of course none of this is to be done right away, but I don't want to wait until I'm too old to enjoy it. All in good time, all in good time.
I wish I were more bold and had made myself get out there and enjoy all that God has to offer by traveling more, Europeans have that in spades it seems. Is it more an American thing to not be more adventure like? Or just a me thing? :confused3
Sorry to highjack, I'm slobbering over here thinking about traveling, it's all your fault for posting those amazing pictures!

WEll, between you, Cpt. Oblivious, and Glennbo, there's a lot of slobbering going on! :lmao: No, I think you're right, it's kind of American to not travel a lot. :confused3 We meet very few who have made it a priority to spend their extra money on traveling.

I'll call you very soon. PM me a good time. :goodvibes

Ok.

That German food looks amazing. My mouth is watering just looking at it!

You too, huh?? :rotfl2:

Oh my goodness we did eat here with Magdelena! I think we may have even eaten at the table with the lady with the stripped shirt. I agree it was the best sausages ever! We ordered the 6 sausages I had potato salad (yum!) and Dave had kraut! I had a pretzel too.. Dave said after Magdelena left he could have eaten 12 of those sausages! :rotfl:

I am so glad the ball and presentation went so well! You poor daughter it must have been very emotional for her. All the dresses at the ball we beautiful.

I thought so, but didn't want to post it, for fear I was wrong. Funny, it's so small you can remember which table you were at. In hind sight, we should have ordered a potato salad as well. It just wasnt' quite enough for us. Sort of.... but more on that later....

It did go well, all 3 of them. But obviously a little much for one of us. I think it was the pictures of her dog that pushed her over the edge.

I keep telling Dave that I want to come to Germany once during Christmas. I have heard that Nuremburg has a fantastic Christmas Market.

Yes, you definitely should; it's something on my to-do list as well!!

Those dresses are so very pretty! :) What a fun time. Nothing wrong with Taco Bell though. It's pretty cheap eating. lol! Glad you managed to not be stopped by the policeman. Just an honest mistake.

I'm not a kraut fan but those sausages, bread and pretzels? Yes please! Yum, yum.

Liesa, finally got through the two new updates. The gowns ended up looking great! Interesting the sword in your belt. Was that to make sure the boys stayed away from your daughters, or to threaten them if they tried to??? :lmao:

HAHAHA!! Yes, it was to beat off all the nice young men! Each one actually DID get asked to dance once or twice, but mostly we danced with each other- which is not weird AT ALL. Just not enough guys to go around- LOL!What a terrible dilemma to be outnumbered 2 to 1. :lmao:

Glad the talk went well. It is so funny how we worry about stuff like that and having enough to say, when our minds are so full of information and you just get up and share and wonder where the time went! Funny that you had so much your talks turned out different, but not surprising either! :)

I know! Fret and stew, and them it goes off without a hitch.

I'm not a big kraut fan, but that does sound pretty good, and I'm sure it is probably much better than the "Americanized" versions you get here. I probably would have gone for the potato salad like Wendy though. The rest looks/sounds delish! And I'm guessing the gingerbread would be a nice finishing touch, like Magdalene mentioned. Since I don't know what Glühwein is, I will have to reserve judgement on that. :confused3

Ended up we should have done both. We were HUNGRY!! Gingerbread would have to wait, we had more to see and do first!! ANd I'm in the dark as you are about Gluhwein. Magdalene- do tell!! I know we can Google, but better to hear it straight from those in-the-know!

And it's a good thing they don't have shops around here with all those pastries and goodies! Those look so yummy, even the little bugs, and I would probably be needing my arteries cleaned out every other week!

I was just saying that to my daughter the other day! I would totally be in there once or twice a week with my Peeps drinking coffee and getting loaded up.

Judging from the clientele and the way they're dressed, that has to be the classiest Taco Bell I've ever seen.

My goodness. I'm gonna have to break this one out again:

Really enjoying the pictures of Germany. The town just has that historical "feel" to it. Looks like a fascinating place.

You're slobbering on my thread again! :lmao::lmao::lmao: I've got the goods for that!

I do that same thing in Taco Bell, which is a pretty pathetic commentary on my tastes. Or is it that I'm just a diverse gastronome?? :rotfl2:

The ball looks like so much fun! "May I have this dance," and a bow? I love it!

DS and I both agree, I like those ladybugs! They look so neat. But I'm really drooling over the pretzels. :lmao:

It was a pretty classy event! And so fun!

The pretzels were melt in your mouth great!!! And filling too!!

Oh my gosh! I want that sausage and kraut meal!
Drooling.gif

Forgot to mention....when I was in Europe I was always shocked to see dogs in the restaurants and coffee houses also. We have a dog, so I didn't mind it, I just thought it was strange.

OH NOOOOOOo!! more drooling!! I should have posted a warning!!

It was a bit shocking to me too, to be honest. I was totally ok with it, but it was something I was NOT used to seeing.

Same thing when we first got to Kaz. and everyone smoking in there. :confused3

Good morning Liesa! What a rare occassion to see your green light on! :goodvibes

DANG! I missed you!!

Mark and I love German food and that looks so very, very good. I can almost taste it the way you described it.

Can't wait to see if you indulged in some of those goodies.

I know you do!! I remember it was like what? 3 or 4 plates a piece in Biergarten!! :lmao: Yum!!

Those dresses are so very pretty! :) What a fun time. Nothing wrong with Taco Bell though. It's pretty cheap eating. lol! Glad you managed to not be stopped by the policeman. Just an honest mistake.

CHeap and I get along very, very well!! Unzipped dresses and I do not. :rotfl2:

Me too!! I think next to one other very special meal, this was our best one.

Hey All, I just posted a 4 minute video of the Ball on my FB page. Enjoy!!

I don't even know half of the characters you just mentioned. Now, if you'd thrown in a Boba Fett or Dr. McCoy....
Now that's what I'm talking about!

Ok, I give up... who is Boba Fett??
Oh no she d'int!

:darth:

Great udpates Liesa. I'm glad to hear the presentation went well. The sausages and Kraut made me HAWNGRY!

Love me some Taco Bell btw. I pretty well go there at LEAST once a week. $2 for a burrito, chips and a drink? That's cheaper than I can make lunch.

And of course you know how I like to keep the fire stoked so to speak, and their food lends itself well to that purpose.

Yes, I did. Guess I"m a bit rusty on the old SW speak.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Fire stoking- love it!! :rotfl2: It does lend itself well with that!!

ANd I'm in the dark as you are about Gluhwein. Magdalene- do tell!! I know we can Google, but better to hear it straight from those in-the-know!

It's the German version of mulled wine. It actually means „glowing wine“. And in Nuremberg it is traditionally made with blueberry wine.

I was just saying that to my daughter the other day! I would totally be in there once or twice a week with my Peeps drinking coffee and getting loaded up.

Hmmmm, great idea...

Ok, I never thought about that, it is indeed common here. Friends of mine who have a dog, very often take him with them, but they generally call ahead when they go to a new place and ask.

Same thing when we first got to Kaz. and everyone smoking in there. :confused3

You were lucky that you did come in August 2010 after the new smoking law came into effect. It is still a very new developement that smoking isn't allowed in restaurants – and only Bavaria has a total ban on smoking, other areas of Germany have certain exceptions.

DANG! I missed you!!

And I missed you! :(

I know you do!! I remember it was like what? 3 or 4 plates a piece in Biergarten!! :lmao: Yum!!

I am looking forward to you and Liesa coming to Europe!!

I wish I were more bold and had made myself get out there and enjoy all that God has to offer by traveling more, Europeans have that in spades it seems. Is it more an American thing to not be more adventure like? Or just a me thing? :confused3

I think one reason for Europeans travelling more is that it is so much easier to get used to crossing borders if they are so close. Just think of it, France is about the size of Texas, Germany the size of Montana, the UK the size of Michigan, Austria the size of South Carolina and Italy the size of Arizona. The whole of the European Union, which comprises most of the European states is less than half the size of the USA. If you live in the Czech Republic and want to see the sea, you must travel to a different country, if you live in the Netherlands and want to see a mountain, you must travel to a different country as well. So people are used to travelling. And within the European Union travelling has become much easier with open borders and the common currency, the Euro. And once you have realized that stepping out of your boundaries isn't so difficult, you start exploring new destinations: Egypt, Thailand, Chile or the US!

Also, I think, don't forget that we have so much more time off from work. At least 4 weeks of paid vacation time is the standard all over Europe and here in Germany many people get six weeks. So it just seems much more justifiable to travel a long distance if you then can stay there for three weeks.

Actually there are balls every 2 months with this group. Each one has a different theme, but it is always English Country dancing. The next ball is titled "The 12 Days of Christmas". Wow, how interesting! So these dances are closer to your FIL's house than where you live at the moment?

She will in time get over it. Meantime, she is really needing extra TLC.

What is TLC? When I read your post yesterday I was thinking exactly that this might be hardest for her due to her age. On the other hand I am sure that she can gain the most out of it. I think this ability of adapting to a new culture knowingly as a means to an end and not just because it is what you do as a kid, is something she will be able to draw upon all her life. It is one of the things we try to teach our exchange students. I know it isn't any comfort for her now...

Honestly, we saw very few tourists, most were speaking German, and seemed very relaxed in their surroundings. I thought this might have been the place you had taken Wendy, and I remembered you knew the name because when we told you where we had gone for lunch you spouted off the name no problem. Yes, it is my favourite place for sausages!

As for losing my dress- ummm.... that wouldn't have been the first time. :scared1: In public. At a dance. I'm dead serious.

Oh, please tell!!!

Thread hijack!!

Camille, bless your heart, you've just found yourself a travel buddy! ::yes:: I LOVE to travel and have been to Europe several times: Belgium, Italy, Portugal, UK ( 2 trips to each country - I am forgetting somewhere...) and on my list is Germany and Austria and maybe even DLPR :).....but DD can no longer travel now that she has a little one and my usual travel buddy has 2 college students, so no money.

My dad was Naval Air and with each transfer we drove across country stopping in almost every state along the way - by the time I was 11 I'd seen Niagara Falls, the Painted desert, the Petrified Forest, the Grand Canyon, even Disneyland. Both coasts, nearly everything in between. Absolutely wonderful!
Be brave - your only regret will be not going sooner. :goodvibes (and now you've a travel buddy!)

Liesa, now I get to catch up! popcorn::

Guess those of us you haven't friended are just out of luck! :sad2:

At least Maroo was willing to be one of my FB friends..... :thumbsup2

Oh, I'd be happy to FB Friend anyone!! Did I miss your asking?? :confused3 If so, please forgive me!! :worship: :flower3:

Just PM'd you....

Since I don't know what Glühwein is, I will have to reserve judgement on that. :confused3

Marvin, I just remembered that I heard in the past that the German pavillion in Epcot has a stand that sells Glühwein during Christmas! So you even get a chance to try it soon!! :goodvibes

Hi Magdalene!!! Just picking up where I left off, and I see you have posted some more...

Great update! That food looked soooo good. If I wasn't already eating lunch while reading this it would have made my mouth water! I know restaurants in the states say they have "open kitchens" but that was a REAL open kitchen!!
Also your daughter Anara's name is so beautiful I love it!
