We will be there end of Sep/early Oct!! Though i do hope there is a baby in ur future

I know, I know, y'all are sick of hearing from me. I just had to share this blast from the past. :goodvibes
These kids were filmed and put on Youtube, someone I know posted it on FB and I just had to share. Not the best, but darn close to real thing and what talent for such young people! Really amazing!

Little trivia for ya......This was the very first video played on MTV. :goodvibes

Enjoy!

I really hope you can spend more time with your mom getting her out. I know it will lift her spirits and make her feel productive and loved on.

And I want to thank you so much for posting that video. I have now spent the last hour watching old videos from the 80s having extremely cathartic flashbacks of hanging out at football games, arcades, and at the beach with my friends. It was all about the synthesizer wasn't it? :lmao:

The food looked devine, Liesa. :cloud9: I would have loved to try the apricot dumplings myself. Yummy.

I felt so bad while I was reading about your adventure finding a pharmacy. :sad2:

Germany looks so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe in hindsight, I should have hopped straight over to those!!

THe whole trip was an adventure, body, mind and soul! And one of learning new useful words.

There are so many beautiful things about Germany!! Especially the cleanliness!

Just checking in on all the chit chat as I get ready for afull day at work !! Will be back this evening to check on all you guys and see what mischief Marv has been up to !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I'll look for you tonight then, Rosie!

:rotfl2:

Jordan and DJay are pretty gassy from what I've heard.

Well, let's just say they are in a class all unto themselves- and I"m not sure that GB doesn't belong in an elite rank all by himself.

Well......some of the characters on here have been accused of having "hobbit-like" features. :rolleyes1

Who me?? I'll have you know, I have a fresh pluck job where necessary, but admit the fur should be braided very soon.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: You can do it! If I can run a 10k, anyone can! :thumbsup2

If this idiot foot of mine will heal soon, I can get busy!

I LOVE zoos. Have a good day. :)

WE DID!!! The wolves were so flippin cool! We saw sea lions, elephants, zebras, and got some cool pix!!

We will be there end of Sep/early Oct!! Though i do hope there is a baby in ur future

Hmmm... the wheels are turning!! But I think a bany would be an awfully cool thing too! Do keep us posted, if you feel comfortable!

I LOOOOVVVVEEEEE Peppermint Ice Cream!!!

Dudette, me too!! But learned quickly that a little dark choco syrup would have been exquisite on it!:thumbsup2

Oh aren't you just Mr. Comedian!

He tries. :rotfl2:

We will see.... :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

What's a bany? :confused3

Heck if I know!! I have not the foggiest clue what the he... I was typing (or thinking) when that went up. :confused3 I hope my retirement savings is enough for a high class alzheimers joint- apparently, I'm going to need it.

OH yeah, I remember, a baby!!!!! That's it. Now, who's baby is it??

I thought a BANY was one of your fancy-shmancy new words! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I"ve come up with some really good ones, but BANY?? Even I was schmoked out on that one.

You sound like you know that phrase well. (j/k!!)

At this time of night, you are lucky I am even making a bit of sense. :rotfl2:

On second thought, I might not be.... :confused3:confused3

I'm hoping the exact same thing as I sit here and write my next update!!! :lmao:

At least it is only 8:30 there! :goodvibes

I was going to write more about our trip but I lost the ambition. Plus there isn't really much to tell. I was going to run through the parks and stuff but I guess it would start getting redundant. I would LOVE to report some MAW news but there still isn't any yet. Juliana did get another package today with some very cute hair clips. Wait till you see them. Tomorrow is 27 days!

Our first night at Moose Hall was GREAT!!! Seriously, who would have a bad night’s rest with a fluffy white duvet wrapped warmly around their body?? And who wouldn’t wake up ready for a brand new day, when the scent of fresh baked bread and bacon comes wafting up through the halls??!!

Most of us awoke excited to face the day and all it had to offer- hoping it would be free of rolling over towards the hotel trashcan stationed by the bedside. Zachary was not able to do the simple task of waking up, which didn’t bode well for his touring prospects. It was looking like someone was going to have to miss something today…maybe even more than one someone…

I can tell you right now, that Germans (at least the Hotel Elch) KNOW how to do breakfast- well!!! It was the BEST way to start a day that I could think of; with LOTS of strong coffee, and a little of this and a little of that, which looked a lot like this:

DSCN8431.jpg

There was fresh fruit, hot bacon, sausages and eggs, MANY kinds of cereal, (but I feasted on some of the best granola I’ve ever eaten), cold cut meats, cheeses, 4 or more kinds of fresh bread, and my favorite a cute little tube of liverwurst!!! YUM!!! Anara enjoyed hot cocoa and juice and little flavored yogurts with her meal, but Mikki had been ill for way too long to enjoy ANY of that, so she was stuck with this:

DSCN8429.jpg

At least her sense of humor had returned, and we all got a pretty good laugh over her paltry perusing.

After deciding that I got the lion’s share of seeing the sights the day before it was determined that I’d be the one stuck watching CNN in the room while Zach snoozed on. It was either that or stare at the hippie chandelier on the ceiling- Hmmm… on second thought, I’m not sure what would have been worse. So I stayed back, took a LONG hot shower, watched some news that was so important I can’t even remember what it was today, and repacked a little. And believe it or not, I was TOTALLY OK with this!! The castle was, of all the things we had on our list to see, at the bottom. And as we were laying in bed the night before, I vividly remember saying to Mike, “If I see absolutely NOTHING else, I will have left Nuremberg very happy!” and “Everything from here on out is gravy!” That is everything, except one, no two, people I needed to meet. But that falls into a different category than sightseeing; that my friends, is “friend making”.

So, Mike, Anara and Mikki headed out the door with their sights set on the castle on the hill. One of the first things they needed to do was pick up some weapons to defend it, if need be:

DSCN8438.jpg

I’m sure that this guy would have joined them in the fight if he weren’t hung up at the moment:

DSCN8441.jpg

Properly equipped and ready to go:

DSCN8451.jpg

they trudged on. But scenery like this:

DSCN8439.jpg

proved to be too much for someone so weak from having the Scourge of Scariness. Mikki was forced to turn back and put up her white flag of defeat. All the swords and helmets in the world could not afford her enough strength to carry on any further. Alone she hung her head low and took the walk of shame back to Mooseville. Another few hours of rest would certainly do her a world of good- or at least we certainly hoped so, for we had HUGE plans for that afternoon, and she REALLY needed to be part of those!

The brave and healthy continued on and saw more incredible things, including the tower where fair maidens like this:

DSCN8442.jpg

are locked up for outrageous ransoms.

DSCN8435.jpg

Thankfully, our young maiden was not taken captive this time, for her honor and chastity were fully protected by her knight in shining leather who loved to look over his realm and be near the castle gates:

DSCN8444.jpg

DSCN8450.jpg

Feeling strengthened in her presentation at court, she was able to conquer large and frightening beasts on her way home with her real life hero!! And with victory under her belt she was ready to set out for more adventures with her family.

It's unbelievable how long it's taking to get things reallly cemented!!! I really hope for your sanity's sake they let you know about some trip stuff soon!!

Nope, 9:30, and now, 9:45.

I get so excited to see you have a new trip post up!! :goodvibes
I think the pictures are so amazing, makes me even more determined to get going with some sort of job. I want to travel!! :yay:

Your DH took some great photos, so did Anara! :thumbsup2 She's such a precious, little cutie Liesa. ::yes::

Why didn't Mr. Zach want to get out of bed? I can't remember...was he sick as well? :confused3

Sounds like a great way to start out a day....quiet, well fed, clean and comfy. :goodvibes

I agree with your thoughts about German breakfasts! And your Hotel Elch experience is rather typical for a medium class German Hotel. We don't have the variety of hot dishes which Americans have for breakfast, but for hotel buffets there will at least be eggs, bacon and sometimes hot sausages (bratwurst or hot dogs). But no omlettes, pancakes or waffles. But then we Germans think that we really excell at making all kind of different breads - and there usually is a very large variety of cheeses and cold meats.

Loved your update, lots of great pictures! :thumbsup2

:scared1::scared1: She did sit on that!!! :scared1::scared1:

Ok, I have a bit more time today, so here is the info about bay windows and the fountain:

The bay windows are called "Chörlein" here in Nuremberg (the normal German word is Erker), which actually means "little choir" - the term comes from the architectural use of "choir" in church buildings, not the musical term. There used to be 450 of these in the city of Nuremberg before 1945, but 350 have been destroyed during the war... There were different uses for them, some of them were used as space for the altar in small chapels within the house. The one your picture is from is from the house where the pastor of St Sebald lives and it is one of those which were used as a chapel. But most of them are just an architectural feature to make the facade more interesting.

I think I once read that the city of Nuremberg was very strict with regard to anything which was perceived as luxury. There were strict laws about how you were supposed to dress and how much money you were allowed to spend on weddings and such. And I think there were also rules on how you were allowed to built. They were very concerned that people should not show off their wealth - or even worse, get into debt for unneccesary expenditures. Those bay windows were one of the allowed forms of ornament for your house.

On to the fountain. Camille was right: it is modern, it was built in the 80's and was a huge scandal. It is called "Hans-Sachs-Fountain" or also "Carousel of Marriage". Hans Sachs was a shoemaker and poet who lived in Nuremberg around 1500.

Hans_Sachs.jpg

He was one of the "Mastersingers" - possibly the most famous one. Richard Wagner wrote an opera about these poets: "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" (The Mastersingers of Nuremberg) in which Hans Sachs has an important role.

He wrote a poem which is called "the bittersweet matrimonial life" and the fountain is a modern interpretation of that poem. Some of the scenes are very crude and therefore it was heavily debated when it was first built. Also because it was very expensive. But today it really is just an everyday feature in Nuremberg and nobody is that excited about it. Just as you discussed with Camille, nudity in art has been around for a long time and I think Germany in general is one of the countries which does mind nudity the least.

The fountain is actually placed there to hide an air vent from the underground station beneath it. This air vent is cleverly hidden inside the fountain.

Flossbolna: But then we Germans think that we really excell at making all kind of different breads

I thought all the bread we ate was delish! Do most Germans buy there bread at bakeries? I noticed when going to grocery stores there wasn't much in the way of packaged bread.

Yes, I think most bread is bought at bakeries and most grocery stores would have a bakery shop at the entrance. However, during the last 15 years many small local bakeries have dissappeared and we have a lot of factory bakeries which have several shops. A lot of them are still local (I think there are only two national chains) and generally they still sell bread baked on that day. Packaged bread is very uncommon, it is mainly used for "toast bread" (similar to your packaged bread, but it is never eaten as it is, only toasted), very dark rye bread (think pumpernickel, which holds fresh for a long time) and "Knäckebrot" (my dictionary says "crispbread" - it originates from Sweden and is very dry thin sliced bread). Also there are numerous variations of packaged bread which isn't already baked (or only "half-baked"), so this you can't eat until you have baked it in the oven. It isn't raw dough, but still a bit unfinished.

Hmmm, I once did an explanation of German bread in one of my dining reviews... I will try to find a link... :goodvibes
