The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

One site suggested that there were cruise port shuttle buses running to town in Stockholm, but can't find that verified anywhere. I'm hoping there is as it would make a DIY tour there so much easier!

I had emailed the viking people about their tour & asked how people normally get from the ship to the city - she said the crusie ships normally run a shuttle. I was going to email DCL & find out if they are running one or not.

OK, I just bought the HOHO combo tickets. 4 tickets came to $146.

I also checked on the Vasa admittance and it looks like it's $15.47 pp. The Royal armoury is about $10 but under 19 yo is free.

The 4 hr DCL excusion to the Vasa and Royal armory is $79....so for 4 people, $316. HOHO and DIY is much cheaper.

Thanks so much for this info. DD wants to go to the Armory and it's even better that under 19's are free. Does the Vasa offer a discounted rate for students/children?
I was looking at the DCL excursion, but this sounds so much better and very doable.

That sounds promising. Can you post if you get a useful reply from DCL?

We were in Tallinn in 2008 and there was a bus to take passengers into town. The bus was set up by the port not the cruiseline.

It isn't that far to walk from the port to the old part of Talinn.

I ordered the Stockholm Card before we left home, and it covered public transportation as well as most admissions. We started walking from the port, didn't see any buses, but finally arrived at the subway station and took that into town. I think we walked back to the ship.

It's really helpful to have this all in one place. Thanks! I know there's a bus at the port in Stockholm to bring us into the city center. I wonder if we can figure out if the other ports have a convenient bus/subway or will provide shuttle service. Otherwise, it may be a taxi for the four of us into town...

I started to buy the Stockholm card and Oslo pass this last week. I couldn't find that the cards would be sent to me in advance of cruising.:confused::confused::confused: It kept saying I would receive a voucher and pick up the card in a TI. Am I in the wrong site? I don't want to pay for riding bus #76 in Stockholm to go pick up the already paid for card!:lmao:

Finally reserved our transportation needs for our July 6 cruise. Went with Eddie Manning (based on recommendations here!).

We have them for pickup at Heathrow, to Rennaisance Chancery Court Hotel, then pickup for the drive to Dover/Folkestone and then pickup after the cruise and straight to Heathrow!

Can't wait, getting closer now! :)

I hope you won't mind me asking the prices for your transportation (is it private hire; car/van?):

LHR -> Chancery Court
Hotel -> Dover
&
Dover -> LHR

Thanks!

We are considering driving up from Switzerland. Anyone know if it is possible/advisable to park our car in Dover?

Through the port of Dover website you can book car parking at the terminal and it has a set fee for the Magic Baltic cruises. I have already booked mine there and its as safe as any port.

For my cruise its £110.

I am driving down from London and leaving my car there for 12 nights and trust it myself.

:thumbsup2

Considering a lot of people are flying in say from the USA, etc, I ave thought that the car park might be rather empty, against UK booked cruises, we shall see.

Anyway looks very secure.

Its going to be nice, driving down Sunday morning for my cruise, that day, and driving back Friday and being home in just a bit over an hour.

Total price is 459 pounds. It is a private Mercedes full size van and we are 4 adults with luggage and carry ons. I know there were more economical ways to go, but I am not up for a bus or train dragging my bag with me, lol. :)

Doesn't Bus # 76 come out to Friehamen (sp?) Port ?

I've been looking all over & this is the info that I have

You can walk to the end of the pier & there is a bus stop - there's a ticket machine there which takes credit cards - you have to buy the tickets from the machine you can't buy them on the buses

There should be a kiosk somewhere at the port that sells the Stockholm travelcard which can be used on the buses & has a discount for some of the tourist spots (the Vasa is one)

Also I had read there's a HOHO boat that is right at the pier & in the morning it goes the other way so it stops at the Vasa first instead of last.

Whew - I feel like I know everything about stockholm now - of course the boys just want to do the DCL Viking tour instead of anything else. Hopefully when I can book my excursions in a month I'll be able to get it!

With Eddie Manning do you have to pay in advance? Do you have to give them your credit card number?
