The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

:thumbsup2Very cool:cool1:

We're also planning on a DIY to the Vasa museum as well as signing up with a local tour company for a tour of Stockholm.

Was it Andrew that said you would need a taxi to get from port to the city? How do we get a family of 7? Do you think there are bigger vans available? I was thinking of doing a tour for this city to avoid the hassle of getting us all into the city.

Celestine found the name of the company that is doing the Viking tours for DCL-so we are going to go through them for a smaller group and money savings. Not sure about transport from the port to the city. If they don't have shuttle buses we'll have to go with taxis. I'm not too worried about the transport from the port to the city as I'm sure someone will be there to make some money off the tourists;)

Is that the tour where they are all wearing the blue viking hats? I told the boys thats the trip I want to go on

Can someone help me understand the Fast Track Tickets that are offered at some attractions (Tussauds, Eye, Tower, ?). It appears that the London Pass may offer similar advantages to what some ticket brokers offer. But again they are all trying to make a sale. Does anyone have any experience, or know what the best option(s) are? Thanks!

Old town is three miles from the port, and city centre two and a half miles.

Do not know taxi sides, but you would presume at a port, there will be a lot of drivers looking for a bit of extra cash.

One site suggested that there were cruise port shuttle buses running to town in Stockholm, but can't find that verified anywhere. I'm hoping there is as it would make a DIY tour there so much easier!

From what I understand its a very long port, and a lot will depend on how many cruise ships are in at that time. If many are in we can be quite a long way away.

(4) Cruise ships in on the 27th July.

Empress
MSC ORCHESTRA
CRYSTAL SYMPHONY

We are doing HOHO in Stockholm. It should be really easy.

I have done fasttrack at the London eye and was on it in minutes and there was an hour queue at that time.

At Tussauds in February, (low season) without fastrack, my family queued two hours to get in, on standby.

London is very popular, with the low pound, is a very good destination at this time, and very busy with tourists, and it isnt even Spring yet.

I found a site for a hop on hop off bus in Stockholm. It looks like the busses stop at the two cruise ship berths. There are two bus lines, and each stops at a different berth. This may help those that want to DIY this port.

Excellant! Thank for posting this. Looks like the way to go. Do you think there will be time to do both the yellow and the blue lines? FYI 260 sek = $36.50.

I just did the math and the combined ticket (blue + yellow) is only $5.60 more....so probably worth it even if you only have time to ride the bus around the other loop.

Let me know what you find out about the transfers. I need hotel to airport on the way back and haven't booked anything yet. I didn't think it was that urgent but I'm interested to hear what you find out.

OK, I just bought the HOHO combo tickets. 4 tickets came to $146.

I also checked on the Vasa admittance and it looks like it's $15.47 pp. The Royal armoury is about $10 but under 19 yo is free.

The 4 hr DCL excusion to the Vasa and Royal armory is $79....so for 4 people, $316. HOHO and DIY is much cheaper.

For our June 24 Baltic I have completed booking EVERYTHING from Palos to Excursions and now I am going to stop worrying about any of it! It is in Disney's hands now! Including the money, almost! :cool1:

Hey Buck how long did it take you to book those excursions? took us an hour and two people to do it. System kicked us out.

I logged on just after midnight :surfweb: and was done by 12:45am. I did not have any trouble staying logged on. I went back in this morning and added High Tea and there were still a few slots left. :)

I did expect that i might have to take some second choices for excursions but I got my first picks for everything. :thumbsup2 I guess there were not many people that could take advantage of the 105 day booking window on the June 24th cruise. :worship:
