The 2009 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ Thread

During DD's nap yesterday I came across the BC/YC photo and FAQ threads. I think I fell in love! :lovestruc

It seems too good to be true and I am hooked... and hoping to be able to swing staying at BC in 2010!

I have done my best to read through all the pages between nap time and after bedtime for the kids last night. However, I have a couple of questions and hope you all can help me out. Here goes:

1. The photos on this thread show the rooms with duvets, flat screen tvs hanging on the wall, and listed as being renovated in 2008. On the Disney site they have bedspreads and look older. I am assuming that the rooms all have the duvets and the photos on the Disney site are just horribly out of date?

2. One main reason we are thinking of switching to a deluxe is the daybed. DS will be 6, but for some reason flips out when he is in a bed larger than a twin. DD will be too big for a pack-and-play and the queen bed should keep her from falling out. I believe I read on an earlier post that the only way to guarantee getting a daybed is to pay for the CL? I know that will not be in the cards this year and would hate to have to chose another deluxe to get the daybed. Any insights on getting a daybed room other than going CL?

Thank you all in advance!

Elevator access to 5th floor is only through main bank of elevators, the other elevator in far end of resort only goes to 4th floor as that part of the building does not have a 5th floor.

So, yes, to get to SAB take elevator to 1st floor. You will not need to walk directly through lobby as there a "side door" you can exit the building right by the elevators.

Thanks!

All BC rooms were renovated in 2008 and have the duvets. Disney site is out of date.

Some CL rooms do not have daybeds. Lots of non-CL rooms do. I think your best bet would be to book a standard room and make a daybed your 1st request. I know they can't be guaranteed for a family of 4 (family of 5's get first preference) but usually they will do everything they can to make your first request happen.

You will LOVE YC/BC!

 Hope you are having a great week as well!!

Looks like you are busy planning for your trip next year. Did you decide on the 2 bdrm at BCV? I think that would be a great choice with your DS and his friend. Will give them plenty space of their own and you will also have the kithchen and common liiving area to gather.

I am having a great week thank you.:hippie:

Actually, all the planning is done now I just have to make the reservation. BCV23 has been a tremendous help.:worship: I do feel that the 2 bdrm at BCV is perfect for us as well especially with two teenage boys. John and our DS get along like they are brothers. We have taken John on trips with us before but never on an airplane so this should prove to be interesting. His last trip on a plane was when he was 7 and he said it wasn't a very nice memory. I told him it will be fine.:scared1:

I am so thrilled to know that I am going to be able to do laundry while we are there. Being in Florida for 13 days this past trip and not being able to wash clothes just killed me. After BCV we are headed to the HRH for 5 nights as well so doing the laundry while at BCV is a big plus. I never thought in a million years that a washer and dryer would make me so happy.:lmao: I was telling BCV23 that my DH and DS were already getting their Garden Grocery list ready.:rotfl: Like two kids in a candy store.

Have a great day :flower:

:thumbsup2 for the laundry!!! Forgot about that, big bonus. I typically do laundry mid trip and it is a couple hour adventure by the time it is finished, but to have laundry right in your room :cloud9: So, totally understand your excitement. :)

Men and food, totally get that as well. I am surrounded by them in my house. My family thinks half of the fun of Disney is the dining. Also, :thumbsup2 for Garden Grocer, we have used them a couple of times in the past, great service. Their fruit was also delicious and something I was concerned about for not reason, it was great.

Thank you! I assumed it was behing you guys, but wanted to make sure. And thanks for the advice about the daybed, I know we will be there at a busy time, but I can hope... and there are always the rollaways. My kids are such crazy sleepers there is no way they can share a bed, they would end up kicking each other in the face and we really would get no sleep. :rotfl:

I think this is a question for Teena but I'll repost when she gets back if no one else can answer it. I am considering the club level for our Jan 10 marathon thru mlk day trip. My daughter is allergic to dairy and won't be able to eat most of the bfast items other than the fruit. Does anyone know if they know ahead of time do they accommodate allergies in the lounge?

A

I don't know about the lounge specifically, but I can't imagine that you'd have a problem anywhere on property. I am a walking allergy and I know that Disney is exceptional in dealing with them. In May when I ate at Spoodles they assigned me a chef who came to the table to discuss my allergies and then he personally supervised my entire meal and drinks to ensure that my plate, utensils and all prep items never came into contact with my allergens.

Wonders10 - thanks for posting. We are staying BC CL for the first time in Oct. Sounds like you had a good experience and hope we will too! We are doing Cape May for b'fast not dinner though. Look forward to your post on the CL offerings.

They are totally great with allergies we are regular visitors and practically friends with Disney's allergy person. Just not sure if it will be worth the upgrade if they don't have stuff for her in the lounge.

I would agree with the pp... my DD is Lactose Intolerant and even though she was not on the dining plan (she was 18 months at the time), at buffet breakfasts they made her milk-free waffles, etc. I would imagine that they would extend it to the club lounge as well.

I meant to tell you that I think it is so cute that your guys are planning their grocery list so far in advance. :goodvibes I'm lucky if I can get my DH pinned down on which restaurants to book!

Hi all--

I am taking my mom to the Beach Club for the first time, for her birthday next week. I love it there, but mom is picky--she really has a thing for the Poly--so I'm hoping she enjoys it like I do. (Being within walking distance of Off Kilter won't hurt, of course!) I booked us a standard view and requested full balcony, hoping we'll get one on the second floor facing BCV and the courtyard outside the Solarium. I couldn't justify $100 a night more for water view, even with an AP rate.

We check in on Monday so I'll be sure to stop and say hello to Teena! Hope you are enjoying your cruise!

We were at the Poly in April and it was so wonderful...:cloud9:

We're at the BC right now. It's pouring rain and we're staying in for the night. Honestly, I love the BC, too! It has a very different feel from the Poly, but is just as wonderful.

The location is just so convenient -- we feel like we can slip in and out of Epcot in a few minutes -- definitely worth it!:) Plus the pool is wonderful, and the walk to DHS was nice, and so are the boats to DHS. I hope you get your request and that your DM loves it as much as the Poly. In the summer heat, it's nice to stay in a place where you can get to the lobby and the restaurants without having to go outside, too.:goodvibes

:lmao: That's funny. Actually my DH loves to go do the grocery shopping. I say more power to you. As far as restaurants they are right there picking them out with me. My guys love their food. I love it when someone else prepares it.:lmao:

I am sorry I can't really answer either of your questions but I had a thought, sort of a fall-back plan, for you just in case you end up not getting a room with a daybed...

Our first trip to Disney with the family my DD was 3 and my DS was 5. We ended up sliding one queen bed up against the wall and my DD and I shared that bed (with her between me and the wall). Then DH and DS shared the other queen bed comfortably.

We ended up doing that same thing last year on our visit but this time Mousekeeping came in that first day while we were out and surprised us with some bed rails - that was so thoughtful of them, what a great surprise :)

Either way, good luck to you on your request/decision!

I'm a cealiac and have stayed CL at the YC, BWI and GF. Each time they've provided gluten free muffins for me :) I've also taken my own gf cereal and the CMs have provided soya milk.

Evening offerings are a little more difficult - I've not had anything 'special', but the CMs have been very good and told me what items were safe for me.

If you let the IPO know of your daughter's allergies they will ensure everything is sorted beforehand, also let Brenda Bennett of Disney special dining know, she will liaise with the resort for you.

Thanks for the suggestion, it is our fallback plan. DS routinely asks us to sleep with him on vacation, but then literally kicks us out of bed. We are thinking of taking a twin aerobed (if we have the luggage space) since we will have bedding issues at Vero Beach as well. Just as long as DH or I does not end up on the floor it will all work out. :rotfl2:

Can anyone tell me what time the International Gateway entrance to Epcot is open? I am so excited about being able to walk to Epcot. It is my favorite park!

I am almost sure it opens the same time as the main gate, you are then shepherded in the future world direction.
