The 2009 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ Thread

I just got notification that the slide is going to be closed during our May trip. :( That is the reason my 4 year old wanted to stay at Beach Club again.

The kids slide is open and the whole pool is open. I don't have little ones (anymore) so I might be way off base but I would have thought 4 year olds would be on the small side for that big slide. But it sounds as if your 4 year old was already on it since they wanted to come back again because of it. I'm really sorry. I hope the big slide over at the Boardwalk helps take some of the disappointment away.

Hi, everyone! I'm a longtime lurker who just started posting today, and as my DBF warned me, I think I'm going to be more addicted then ever. At least I'm in good company, right?

Anyway, after getting some help regarding which Deluxe resort to pick for November, I've narrowed it down to either the BC or the YC. I'm wondering if one books a lagoon view at CL, would that actually guarantee a view of Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk, or would it still need to be requested?

Thanks,
Katie

At the BC, I'm pretty sure all the club level lagoon views have views of the Lake and Boardwalk and some also have views of SAB along with the Lake and Boardwalk. I can't think of any that you can't see the Lake or part of Boardwalk from. I'm sure others who have stayed at both the Yacht CL and Beach CL in lagoon views will reply also.

No I doubt she will even go on the kiddie slide. She thinks it is for babies.

She has even been working extra hard in swim classes so the big slide would be easier for her to do (she rode in September) The Boardwalk pool doesn't really help because we are not fans of "pool hopping" as we like to be near our stuff ~ easy to go to the room because we do have little kids ~ one likes the sandy bottom pool ~ one likes the big slide.

The one that likes the big slide likes Pop Century just as much except no slide. So we spent three times more money and now we still don't have a slide. We even rebooked our trip to be in warmer weather so we could use the pool/slide MORE. Now we are stuck.

Thank you for the quick reply. Would you be able to tell me what the odds are for getting a king room (as a group of only two) without requesting one? We're leaning towards the BC, and really want to request a full balcony. I don't want to ask for a king room too, though, because I'll feel pushy and demanding.

Also, I have to say, I feel like a celebrity responded to my first post in here. :flower3:

I have to say that when we did our Grand Gathering in 2008 my grandson who had just turned 5 loved the kiddie slide. There were lots of kids 4 and 5 years old in the kiddie pool and they had a ball.

I would think there are so many differences between SAB and a value pool that there's really no comparison. Just digging in the sand where you can swim is something else. Also there are so many activities by the pool in the afternoon that your 4 year old might even forget there was a slide!

The Luna pool slide looks cool, but DD#1, who is 9, thinks the clown is "scary" and thus far hasn't wanted to stay at BWV. We might in December though if it is available. Still deciding on our choices when the window opens...

Maybe you could switch to another resort that has everything you want - it's a shame if the slide being closed is really going to upset your 4 year old. I know some people love the pool and beach at the Grand Floridian and some people say the new pool at the newer area of Animal Kingdom Lodge is as good as SAB. I can't say whether that's true or not since I haven't been there. Hopefully somebody on this board that has been to other resorts can recommend one that will suit your needs now that the slide is going to be down at the Y&B. It's such a shame.

She wouldn't even do the kiddie slide last time we were there ~ and she has talked about the big one non stop since she found out we were staying there.

There are a ton of differences between value and SAB ~ put they are just as happy at Pop pool as SAB ~ except no slide.

Not saying most 4YO's wouldn't love the kiddie slide. Just not mine.

We are just really disappointed. I also have to wonder if they JUST made this decision less than 3 weeks before they close it.

If you book a CL waterview room, there are only one or two rooms with king beds in that category so chances of getting it is slim. However, if you book CL, you don't need to request a full balcony. There is only one room that I can think of that doesn't have a full balcony up on the fifth floor and it's a garden/standard view.

It's a DVC so we can't call until tomorrow to see about moving. I think it is a bit more of a disappointment seeing how the entire pool was closed at AKV for our last stay and we didn't even know until we got to our room and stepped out on the balcony.

Starts to feel like we can't win.

Chiming in my disappointment at the pool - but at least looking on the bright side we will have at least 1 day with the slide before it goes down. It wasn't a planned pool day, but now it will have to be!;)

BTW -is anyone else a little surprised (and disappointed) that Disney is sending paper mail to guests to make this announcement as opposed to email. Leaving aside the fact that I still don't have my letter (snail mail to Canada always takes longer), the environmental and dollar costs seems so wasteful.:sad2: Especially when most of us likely have email accounts on file, and would get the messages at no cost (to Disney or the environment), a whole lot faster that way.:confused3

DH and I leave tomorrow morning for our trip to YC! I've never been so excited for a work conference in my life!!! :cool1:
Looking forward to (hopefully) meeting the famous Teena.
It's a short trip but I think the weather looks like it'll be pretty good. I can't wait!

I'll be in the lobby Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM (except for my short breaks). Just ask someone if you don't see the old lady standing in the lobby with the long white skirt on. Have a safe trip and I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather. The report I saw tonight looks good!

I've never used it but it's across from the quiet pool.

I did last week! If you are going soon, you will have to use the outer building laundry room located next to the quiet pool. It had 4 washers, 8 dryers. It was a good sized room! I did laundry early in the a.m. around 7:30. There were two other people in there, but enough w/d to go around. There is another laundry room on the first floor, but it is currently being refurbished. (Someone should tell that to the Concierge CM's who were directing people there...all week).

Thanks!!

Teena, just wanted to pop in and say that you are just awesome!

It's my understanding that they just noticed a problem with the slide - not slippery enough! It wasn't a regularly scheduled maintenance.

Is your reason for going to BC solely based on your 4 year old's use of the slide? It's a shame because BC has so much to offer beside the slide.

We've stayed at the Poly and GF and they have really nice slides too. The Poly slide is the volcano pool slide and is totally in the dark - don't know if that would be too much for a 4 year old though.

I'll try to remember to bring the April recreation guide home this weekend and let you know. The movies are normally around 8 PM (when it gets dark). There are loads of activities throughout each day too.

That would be great Teena. Thanks so much!

I didn't get a letter telling me about the slide closing while we are there, I wonder way. :confused3

She would love it. She definitely is NOT your typical 4 year old! She was tall enough to ride the ToT at just barely three years old and it has been her favorite ride ever since. She has been dying to be tall enough to ride Space Mountain and will make it this time as she measures 44.5 inches barefoot right now.

Her love of the slide was our deciding factor. We only stayed two nights in September so ~ we may find more to love. It just stinks that it will be closed. Maybe it will open before the end of our trip and this will be all for naught anyway.

You might consider giving Disney a call to see if you can move to a different resort if this is a concern :goodvibes
