Hi all - my friend just booked POFQ for her February 2007 trip to WDW (she just went 3 weeks ago on her first trip to WDW, swore she'd make the best of it for her kids, who weren't all that excited about going, and PS, they all loved it and are returning in 3 months!). She stayed at the GF because she honestly thought it would be a one-time thing and she wanted to live it up. She now wants a pretty resort that's less expensive, and she was recommended to check out POFQ. She thinks it's lovely and I agree from all the photos I've checked out.

My question is this: she can't remember where she heard/read this, but she thinks POFQ is within walking distance of Epcot. I have not been able to find that info. anywhere, so I thought that someone on this thread could help her out - exactly how far is POFQ from Epcot?

Thanks a bunch!

POFQ is not walking distance from any park. None of the moderates and none of the values are walking distance from any park. I mean, I'm sure there are some unconventional types out there who might not mind a 15 or 20 minute walk on busy roads without sidewalks, but I'm coming from a conventional standpoint.

Thanks, CleveRocks, that is exactly what I thought when she first told me that - I had always heard that only some of the deluxes were walking distance from any of the parks.

We are planning POFQ for 2008, so I am subscribing so I can go back and read through the 55 pages of Knowledge!

Hi all!! Happy Holidays! :santa:

I am sure that this has been asked plenty of times... but... I was wondering which building we should request... close to bus, not too noisy?

Thanks for all the great advice on this thread!

POFQ is so nicely compact that there are no buildings far from the bus stop. I found the spot farthest from the food court, the far end of Building 1 on the path by the river. I then timed my walk from there to the door of the food court -- 3 minutes 20 seconds at a leisurely pace. My 3rd floor room at the far end of Building 2 was a 2 minute flat walk to the food court.

So what I'm trying to say is that there's no such thing as an inconvenient building.

Here's a link to a map: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/portorleans.jpg

We'll be staying at POFQ in early March and I'd like a garden view room with one of the fountains. Does anyone know what rooms overlook the fountains?

Thanks for your help,

I'm staying at POFQ in 3 weeks. I requested a water view king room. What building should I request to get the best view of the river and not be too noisy?

I'm curious about the rooms too. A corner room with a king bed sounds great:banana: I would also rather be near a fountain or cozy garden area than the pool or food court. Anyone have any ideas on what I might ask for? thanks in advance!!!;)

I was wondering which resort was doing a pool rehab in 2008 around April-June. I though I read that information somewhere and now I can't find it. Maybe I'm losing it and it's a completely different resort. Just my luck.

If it's POR, isn't it going to reflect the pool area at POFQ then. We want to book for that time, but am hesitant to until we know what's going on.

Thanks for any info you have.

Thank you! I must get to sleep, because I'm really starting to see things. Ok, we're on track then. Wheeew/Big sigh of relief!!!!

Well, at POFQ, you can guarantee a king bed room by reserving/paying for one (between $15-$26 extra per night depending on season). You can guarantee a water view room by reserving/paying for one (same upcharges). You CAN'T guarantee both. Believe it or not, Disney won't let you pay more TWICE to get both of those things. People who get king bed water view rooms got lucky one way or the other.

If you didn't pay for either one, then you're just totally hoping for pixie dust. If enough people reserved and paid for a water view room, they will sell out, and no one who merely requested one will get their request. Same for a king bed room.

What I mean is, for example, builidng 3 rooms (overall) don't cost any more than building 4 rooms (overall), so if you request one of those buildings, it's pure luck if they're able to accommodate you. But if you merely request something that can be reserved and paid for, the deck is stacked against you.

Possible? SURE, happens all the time. Just don't count on it.

Have fun, and GOOD LUCK!

If you request building 4, can you have them spray the room if the smell of smoke is over powering?

I don't smoke. However, building 4 is the perfect location for us.

Posted (by me) on another thread:

POFQ is very quiet, small and intimate. I also find that even if the resort is at full-capacity, there is never a lot of noise or crowds in the common guest areas. There is not a sit-down full-service restaurant at POFQ, but her sister property POR does have one if you want to eat a table service meal at the resort. The food court at POFQ is good, however. Also, POFQ has great bus service, wonderful CMs and a relaxing and nice ride to Downtown Disney via boat. The pool here is great for kids. Lots of visual stimulation for young ones.[/B]

Anyone here use ME to get to the resort? If so, can you share your experiences?

I'm a huge DME fan. I've used it twice, loved it both times, and sure like the word "free" a lot!

Since DME has no pre-set routes, and no pre-set groupings of resorts together on the same bus, there's no way to get a "typical" idea of how DME works with POFQ.

For all of Disney's resorts, the reported average time from plane landing to resort drop-off is 70 minutes, which is really good time, comparable with any other mode of transportation. Unless your cousin Luie is picking you up at the airport AND you are not checking any luggage, there's no way to get to a WDW resort faster or cheaper.

I don't smoke. However, building 4 is the perfect location for us.

If smoke will be that much of a negative issue for you, AND if no one in your party has a mobility impairment, then you're better off just NOT requesting Building 4. That's my recommendation to you.

It's tough to get across just how compact POFQ is. Take a look at the map below. Look for Building 2. Now go up Building 2 towards the river, and follow the building around to that "arm" that goes off to the right on the river end of the building. That's where my room was, on the 3rd floor.

From that point, including taking the stairs or elevator, it took me exactly 2 minutes to walk to the food court.

I hope that helps illustrate for you how small and convenient POFQ is.

By contrast, my room in a preferred location building at CBR was a 5 minute walk to the food court, and like I said, that was from one of the CLOSEST rooms.

And yes, I actually DID time these walks and write them down, just for situations like this!

I'm sorry if this was already asked, but I did a search and it didn't show up. Is there WiFi access at POFQ?? Thanks!!
