This is a resort we're considering (probably between this and Coronado). I like the idea that its a bit smaller than some of the others.

Is it well suited to three kids (ages 10, 5 and 2 at time of travel)? Is it far from the theme parks, the 2-year-old might need to come home for naps. What would you say is the average travel time to get to the 4 parks?

Thanks.

Hi, I am looking at my Passporter right now and as far as the distances to the resorts via bus:
MK 10 min
Epcot 10 min
MGM 15 min
Animal Kingdom 15 min
Downtown 15 min by bus and 20 by boat (although the boat ride didn't seem as long to us?)
Now, I'm not sure if that includes the time to stop at POR or not, the bus doesn't always stop at POR.

My kids seemed to really like POFQ, especially the pool. There were cartoons playing in the food court when we were there (especially mornings and early afternoon).

This was a GREAT resort for my kids, 9 and 3. Cartoons in the food court, playground, really fun pool area (even a shady area, under the serpent/stairs), etc. But what really sold us was the size. Everything was easily walkable. At the end of the day, the kids just couldn't face more long walks (which we've experienced at other resorts). The food court, bus stop, boat launch, front desk, concierge, pool, laundry--everything was minutes away (or less).

One thing I really liked, which added greatly to the ambiance for me, was the one bus stop. Aside from convenience factor (which was a big :thumbsup2 ), you don't have to walk through a parking lot to get to it. It sounds weird, but it just felt classier to me to walk through the lobby and on the sidewalk to get to the bus stop instead of through a parking lot. A small detail, that I never would have considered when booking a resort, but one that made a big difference for me.

Is there a retractable clothesline in the shower/bathtub area at POFQ? If so, I have to remember those clothespins!

TIA!

Question for anyone who has walked from POFQ to POR?
How long of a walk is it? Is the pathway lighted very well for a walk to POR after dark?
I want to rent a boat and visit POR food court and restaurant.
Thanks! :Pinkbounc

My DF has night blindness and he was able to make the walk from POR to POFQ and back with no problems seeing. To give you an idea, we can't do the parks at night because they are too dark for him to see anything. It's about a 5-10 min walk depending on how fast you walk. I love that walk - it's relaxing. We walk there all the time when staying at POFQ. For breakfast, the bar, a snack, shopping, whatever.

I have been through this thread before and actually took notes on points I thought I'd need to remember for our trip, but now I am stuck with a question and can't muster up the strength to go through all 40+ pages to find the answer. :rolleyes1 And my connection is really slow tonight and search isn't moving for me :confused3

My Q: Do I need to override the air conditioner in our room or get a balloon to keep it running when we are out or asleep? If I need to override, can someone tell me how to or point me in the right direction for the instructions please? :)

This thread has been a great help to me! We will be at POFQ Oct 14-21 and cannot wait!

Edit: FWIW, I found my answer in another thread--AC are wall units, no need to override as I understand the post :)

We took a walk every evening between the 2 resorts. It isn't far at all, no more than 10 minutes at the most.

Ok we have to be in section with trundles( in Riverside), what buidling is preferred? I also requested a non smoking ground level room or lower level( DH has SEVERE asthma) I don't know which building to request?

I would also like to know about the smoking and non-smoking buildings. I see in the FAQ it states that #2 #4 and floors in #6 are smoking optional, although I know that some rooms in #4 are non because I have seen posts where people have got rooms in #4 that are non....so, just where are the non-smoking buildings? I prefer to have a whole building that is non-smoking due to medical conditions.

Thanks!!!

We also requested non smoking because of my allergies when we stayed at POFQ in 2002. We were in building 4 and I never noticed any smoke. For our upcoming trip I requested building 4 because we liked it so much, then I read that it was smoking building. I called to change my request, and the CM told me all of POFQ is now non smoking. I had my sister call the next day to make sure I had been given the correct information. She was told the same thing. I know others have posted that they were also told this, but I guess I would call yourself just to make sure. I always worry that the CM's may be telling people different things.

I just switched my reservation last night from BWI to POFQ. I did request non smoking and there was no mention of them being entirely non smoking. This will be our first time at this resort and then we'll be able to say we conquered the Mods!

When I stayed in Building 4 I was on the 3rd floor in a Non-smoking room.

Q:Which building have smoking rooms?
A: Buildings 2, 4 and the top 2 floors of building 6.

These buildings have smoking rooms, I dont believe any building is all smoking. If they have gone to entire resort as nonsmoking it would be news to me.

Only 11 days until we leave, so I thought of more things to obsess over... hats!

DFi and I need hats for WDW. We thought we'd buy them there. The problem is that we are not baseball cap or silly hat kind of people. We need a nice straw, or cloth, brimmed hat. Any chance of finding this at POFQ?

TIA!

I just returned from my trip to POFQ on Saturday. I can't remember the kinds of hats they had in the gift shop. But, the gift shop is much much bigger on the POR side. They may have it if POFQ doesn't. Enjoy your trip! Tell John at the bar that I said hi!! lol And that he makes the best "Sunken Treasures" around!

Re: transportation to Downtown Disney from POFQ. My advice would be to take the boat there and back. This resort is the closer of the two (the other being POR) to DTD, so if you catch the boat on its way TO DTD, there are no other stops between where you get on and DTD. Same on the way back; yours will be the first stop. If you take a bus back from DTD, our experience was that the bus went to Riverside first, and stopped at all four bus stops there before getting us back home to POFQ. The boat arrives at DTD's East Side at 10, 30, and 50 minutes after the hour. Even if you just miss the boat, I'd rather spend the next 15-20 minutes browsing a shop or having a soda at DTD than sitting on the bus while it stops at all 4 Riverside stops.

There sell a variety of straw hats at WDW, I'm sure they may have some at the resort gift shop. The largest selection of straw hats that we saw was at AK park. Keep in mind that prices are high, a packable hat from home may be a better option. Although then it wouldn't be a disney hat princess:
You will love this resort, the rooms are so nice.

I just read through this entire thread (o.k., it took separate readings over a few days...), and what a wonderful treasure trove for great information! Thanks to everyone who posted information and photos.

We are going to be at POFQ in late August 2007, and I'm already getting excited!
