Thanksgiving turkeys -looking to buy a pre-cooked one

We had thought to go out to lunch for Thanksgiving. Attempting to give my mom a break. Now after hearing my son express missing out on the leftovers, I am thinking I might put together dinner on my own. But I do not want to cook a turkey. Where can I purchase a good one that is cooked already for a decent price? Any ideas?

Has anyone purchased one from the grocery store before?

As surprised as I was to hear it, Popeye's Chicken (the chain) is supposed to make an amazing turkey you reheat at home. You do order in advance, and I've heard they run out very quickly.

If you want higher end (organic, free-range, etc), Whole Foods has smoked turkeys, and I think I read that some Costco's carry take-bake as well.

And I know there are a ton of local bbq places around here that sell smoked turkeys, perhaps check the ones around you.

I second the smoked turkey idea. Shop around since some of our local BBQ places are quite high. I found Butterball ones at Costco a few years ago for under $20. It was very good. Most of our grocery stores offer full meals (turkey, potatoes, gravy, green bean cassarole and pie) starting around $30, and some of our local casinos sells turkeys as well for a reasonable price and I can usually find something to do if I have to wait for it

Not sure if you have a Shoprite by you but, they have pre-cooked turkeys for Thanksgiving. In fact you can even order an entire Thanksgiving meal (veggies, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy and the turkey)all pre-cooked and ready for you to pick up. I'm not sure if you have to pre-order it but, I think you do. I personally have never eaten it but, my neighbor has and she said it was great. Her family got to have the Thanksgiving meal without her having to stress out and go crazy with all the prep and cooking.

It's pretty expensive to buy a precooked turkey in my area.

I'd probably buy a turkey breast. They're so easy. No yucky stuff to clean. No worrying about when it's fully cooked. Thaw it and throw it in the oven. Turkey's done.

We are trying a cook in the bag turkey this year. I dislike dealing with the raw turkey and the stuff you have to do to it. lol So this will be nice. At Super Target they have an Archer Farms cook in the bag 12 lb turkey on sale this week for $19.99 (that's the one we bought). They have a cook in the bag turkey breast too.

You still have to cook it, but not deal with the preparation of it...not sure if that helps you or not.

In the past we've gotten precooked whole 11-13 lb turkey's from Honeybaked Ham. They are very good, however they are not cheap.

I bought a pre cooked turkey dinner from Winn Dixie ( At wdw) last year. It was delicoius! It was probablly the best turkey I have ever "made". It was not really THAT expensive, more than cooking it my self, but still pretty reasonable. The thing that surprised me the most, was that I still had to put it in the oven for almost 2? hours to re heat it. It did turn out moist and a beautiful golden brown.. I think it was a honeysuckle. Somehow, they had cooked it in some kind of sealed bag. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

We have done the pre cooked turkey for about 13 years. We get ours from the grocery store publix. I think it cost us about 30 bucks. Winn Dixie also has a meal deal for turkeys.

Boston Market sells them. I never had one so I cannot comment on the taste. I do like their chicken.

Razoo's sells DEEP FRIED turkey! DELICIOUS! Never dry: always juicy! So so so so so delicious. It is very close to Thanksgiving now..and I know for certain you have to order it in advance!

If your reason for not wanting to cook it is the hassle of getting up early and all that basting, I can let you in on a secret. You can use the Reynolds bags to cook them, and there is absolutely nothing to it, and the turkey is great.

I come from a family of great cooks (of which I am NOT one). They were always surprised that I volunteered to cook the turkey at Thanksgiving and were always very complimentary about how good it was (and it was). They had no idea that I used that easy little bag! Easy, easy, easy!!!

Last year my family got our dinner from Boston Market. It was really good, and it was really nice to only reheat dinner and spend the day togeather.
