Thanksgiving Dinner in the room

We are planning to eat THanksgiving in..Has anyone ordered groceries for THanksgiving... or had the precooked dinner from Publix delivered?

Hi there, I am intersted in this as well. We are looking at taking a group of 12 in 2009 for Thanksgiving.

For those that have prepared a Thanksgiving or other holiday meal what were you missing in the kitchen?

We did this a few years ago with a dinner from Goodings. We ordered it online and had to pick it up a day or two before the holiday. The turkey was completely precooked, but we had to heat it up and it took quite a while to do that. We had enough food for six (if I remember correctly), but there was only three of us. We had turkey, dressing, a pie, potatoes, one more side and cranberry sauce. I think it was about $50 or so.

I'm sure that Publix does something similar.

We have been having Thanksgiving in Disney for 11 years. My husband cooks a turkey every year with all the trimmings. This is good if you have a car and can go to the food store. We always have more food than we need, however, it is nice to relax and eat in the room.
To cut the cooking time you can cook a chicken instead or just the turkey breast which works well too.
Otherwise, ordering the food and having it delivered to the room is just as good. You still get the full effect enjoying it in your room with the option to go to the parks too.

We always shop at Publix and just buy food in much the same way we do at home. We prepare the dinner and everything just like at home.

However, on Thanksgiving last year, we had our dinner at Teppan Edo!

We will be at OKW in a 1 br this year. We will have a car so I was thinking of getting a pre cooked dinner from Publix, Goodings or Winn Dixie, and then adding a few of our favorite side dishes.
Then I decided that if I was going to have to shop for favorites, I should just go ahead and cook a turkey or a turkey breast, buy some precooked potatoes (probablly similar to what would be in the precooked meal) make a quick batch of stuffing some brown and serve rolls and just do it all my self. Now this has become quite a production!

Now I am back to trying to justify doing a buffet or a family style at a restaurant.. how valuable is my time and I am on vacaiton too!! UGH..

We've decided to try the pre-cooked meal from Boston Market. I know, not as tasty as other options, but very easy. I'm hoping to add a pumpkin pie from Costco also.

Do you have a car? I don't know if Winn-Dixie or Publix delivers. Or at the very least you might have to take a cab to pick up the food. We are on vacation every Thanksgiving because of the school holiday (we get an entire week off). Anyways... it really depends on where we are at what we want to get out of the day will determine if we'll eat in or go out. If you are looking for a quiet day in, I think it is a great idea...

When we stayed at OKW for Thanksgiving we explored all the possibilities-dinner in the room (no one wanted to cook or reheat) , dinner at one of the restaurants with 'special' Thanksgiving dinners (no one could decide which restaurant ) and my sister's 3 kids (high school and college ages) wanted to go to the parks. So we spent Thanksgiving Day at the Studios (where I spent all day wishing every cast member I saw 'Happy Thanksgiving') and we opted instead for the dinner pakcage with the Candlelight Processional on Friday night (the first night it was being performed). We saw the show and ate at the Biergarten in Germany and had a great time.
As Thanksgiving goes it was very different for us (being used to a very large family dinner-60 or so relatives) but it was great, lots of fun on the big day and a great meal and show the next day.
So maybe you want to explore other options. By the way the parks were not terribly busy especially early in the day and then we enjoyed the pool and the Candlelight Processional is awesome.

We are cooking Thanksgiving dinner in our BWV. This is a first for us, but it sounded like a relaxing day was the best.

I had a post way back when about this.
We had the whole family at BW 13 of us and did the Publix Thanksgiving package.My sister had passed away a few months prior and it was a great way to remember her as she was a Disney Freak! It was great if you have a car! I ordered by phone directly to the Deli and spoke to a manager just being a little cautious with 13 for dinner.
I shipped a package to myself at the BW with you name it, napkins paper table cloths, extra gravy (packaged just in case) decorations and a few little extras that we are used to.
We asked for two tables to be brought to the room which we found out that if you request them earlier the easier it is. At first they thought I was nuts but after explaining that I needed two tables from like the confrence rooms which they weren't using that day anyway they were fine with it.

Yep a lot of work went into that holiday I wanted to make it just right for my brother in law and niece & of course the rest of the family.
My sister & brother in law had their honeymoon in WDW back in the days of the treehouses. They returned every year.
