We are taking a field trip to a fire station in a couple of weeks.

We were asked to provide a thank you snack (baking cookies, brownies, rice krispy treats--that type of stuff).

Was wondering if any creative minds had a suggestion for how we could dress this up a bit and make it themed for the fireman. My creativity index is really low and I could use some help.

The bakers--with mom's assistance are 5 and almost 3.

Thanks!

What about using a firetruck cookie cutter to make the cookies?

My only suggestion would be--whatever you make, make lots! Firefighters LOVE to eat (and really appreciate home made treats!). If you have trouble finding something thematically appropriate, aim for something seasonal. But really, the gang will like whatever you bring.

Warning - Peanuts below.
I've done it on the stove too.

put all in crockpot on low.
1 package Almond Bark White Chocolate
1 package Almond Bark Milk Chocolate
1 package Baker's German Chocolate
1 (10 oz, i think this is the size) package of Semi-sweet morsels
1 jar of Salted peanuts
1 jar unsalted peanuts

couple of hours. just leave it, you don't stir until it's time to scoop.
Drop by spoonfuls on waxed paper.

I am looking for a caramel corn recipe that is so addictive you'll want to slap me. Puffed corn. OOOOOOH, so good and buttery. I'm looking, I promise.

How about sugar cookies with the little "Red Hots" candies in them? I see people do this a lot around Valentines Day...but could work for firemen too!

I use Golden Flake Puffed Corn (it's available here) from the chip aisle.

From Grippo's Corn Pops

1 - 8ox bag of Grippo's Corn Pops
Place Corn Pops in large roaster pan.

Caramel Sauce

In a 2 qt sauce pan cook together for 2 mins.
1/2 lb of butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup

Add 1 tsp baking soda to mixute. This is cause mixture to foam - so 2 qt. saucepan is necessary.

Pour caramel mixture over corn and stir until mixed. Place in 250 degree oven for 45 minutes. Stir AT LEAST every 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven and pour on wax paper. Cool. Break apart. Enjoy.

Hot, hot, hot...Please watch little hands and fingers. It is soooooo good.

Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding:

Ingredients
2 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
2 (4.5-ounce) cans fruit cocktail (undrained)
2 eggs, beaten
1 (9-ounce) box raisins
1 pinch salt
1 or 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Butter Rum Sauce, recipe follows

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Cube donuts into a large bowl. Pour other ingredients on top of donuts and let soak for a few
minutes. Mix all ingredients together until donuts have soaked up the liquid as much as possible.

Bake for about 1 hour until center has jelled. Top with Butter Rum Sauce.

Butter Rum Sauce:
1 stick butter
1 pound box confectioners' sugar
Rum, to taste

Melt butter and slowly stir in confectioners' sugar. Add rum and heat until bubbly. Pour over each
serving of Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding.

I would make sub sandwiches. Have all the kids participate in making it and then cut it up. Add in some veggie sticks and bags of chips.
The firefighters eat at their station, and that would be a nice filling meal that they usually wouldn't get.

Jennifer--we don't have that brand -- do you have a suitable substitute if we opt to do that recipe?

Any "Puff" style will do. I'm looking for brands. Will post with info.

Just make sure you don't use cheese flavor. I grabbed 2 and didn't notice until I got home. DUH

I also suggest making 2 batchs.

Is it a paid firehouse or volunteer?

Make lots, food goes fast in our firestation-

We are volunteers and we get bribed with food frequently :rotfl:

Just make sure they can tell what is in it or what it is (I try to avoid "mystery cooking" from strangers)

Ditto what forevryoung said! Any day someone brings us food is a good day :)

Our favorite is the kindergarten class that brought us apples they picked, and told us that we shouldn't have sugary snacks because it's not good for you. They were so cute!

I have an awesome recipe for you. I made it a week or two ago and sent some to work w/ my husband. I had people begging me to make more and send the recipe. I got it from 30 minute meals and just changed up the ingredients. Here's the recipe:

Oven Roasted Maple GORP (Good Ole Raisins and Peanuts) *I didn't put any raisins in mine, but it would still be awesome!!*

3/4 cup maple syrup (I used the dark kind; NOT pancake syrup!!!)
1 cinnamon stick
1 vanilla bean (spilt down them middle)
1 cup oats
1 cup peanuts
1 cup macadamia nuts
1 pkg. of slivered almonds from the baking isle (not quite a cup-about a half actually)
1 cup cashew halves
1 cup of your choice: raisins, M&Ms, dried cranberries

In a small saucepan, put the syrup and the cinnamon stick on low heat. Scrape the guts of the vanilla bean out and add to surup. Toss in the bean. You don't want to get it boiling, just warmed to infuse the flavors.

In a large bowl, mix together your oats and nuts. Take a large cookie sheet and line with foil (you don't have to do this, I just think it makes for easy clean-up). Take syrup mix off the stove (remove cinnamon stick and vanilla bean) and add to mixture. Toss well with a spatula. Spread into a fairly thin layer on your cookie sheet.

Place in a preheated 375 oven for 15 minutes. Place it into another bowl and toss it with your candy or raisins. Let cool.

You will have DELICIOUS granola that isn't too sweet and isn't too salty. Yummy! The firemen will love it!
