Texas Renaissance Festival

How funny, we just got back a couple hours ago!

The most obvious stuff would be the jousting and the Ded Bob Show. These are probably the most popular and widely known shows.

We really enjoyed the "Throw Up" show (which was juggling), it was well done and very funny. The Mud Show was good but it freaked my girls out as they don't like to get dirty and DH was unexpectedly a volunteer. Off the beaten path there is a Combat Arms show - I believe it was in either the German or Spanish section - very far left as you enter I believe - it was GREAT! The easiest way to find it would be to look for the museum.

All of the food was good. I had a phily steak sandwich that was good, the fried mushrooms were outstanding and if you like strawberries get the strawberry pudding. It was vanilla pudding in a waffle cone with sweetened strawberries all through it. The chocolate was also good, much like chocolate mousse and also served in a waffle cone.

For shopping, make sure and visit Designs in Wax. They have the best candles I've ever found, bar none. I've tried Yankee, Party Lite and these blow them away.

Don't forget sunscreen and bug spray, there were a few mosquitos out even in the morning. We were there from 9:30 until about 5:00 and the entire family had a blast. My kids have babbled nonstop about going back.

We are quite a ways away and stay in a hotel. If you need suggestions let me know!

Thank YOU!!!(I looove candles!)
We have a ressie at a resort on Lake Conroe.

What is the Ded Bob show?

I love the knights! It's fun to get a drink and snack and watch the daily parade of crazies too. I never got to see Ded Bob.

If you have kids, they'll probably like the maze.

I agree that all of the food is quite good and there are excellent shops. Bring lots of money with you.

Which weekend are you going? Check out the website; each one has a different theme.

I love the Ren Fest!!! I want to go this year for my b-day again!

We just got back from a local Ren Fest and considering it was the very first one it was a lot of fun! We watched jousting which was great and sword fighting. Lots of shops and food stands (smoked dragon legs...mmmm). ;)

We'll definitely do it again next year.

Does anyone have their own costumes? I love to look at the clothes and imagine what I'd get but I've never been able to justify the cost of some of that stuff. I love seeing it though!

I have a costume that I wore to MNSSHP but I didn't wear it today. I was chicken to wear it where I might see someone I know. LOL I did end up seeing a co-worker too!

We first went in 1980. We had a great time. We continued to go until about 1990 when we moved out of state. We went back a few years ago. We had planned to go this year, but the hurricanes have taken a lot of time at work, so it's hard to plan a good Renaissance Festival weekend. I loved the ogre with his fart bag. Of course, the mud men. It was always neat to see the King and Queen go by. We used to eat and eat and eat. I loved the steak on a stick, shrimp on a stick. Elephant ears. Lots of beer (back when we drank beer). Baked apple tarts. Fried cheese. They have such wonderful food there.

We used to have the canvas hanging chairs on our back porch back in Texas. Three of them until they just wore out.

I got a wonderful wind chime. Also a great etched glass picture.

Ded Bob is a show where the actor is hooded, and his puppet a skeleton (Ded Bob) is his sidekick. Very funny. The humor that was more adult went over my kids heads, they thought the physical comedy was hysterical.

The ogre and his "fart bag" hasn't been there since the '80s. I always buy the sesame fried chicken. And in the Italian section they have some good food, too. They will have something that pleases you, because they have fried alligator, German potato salad, Mexican food, everything.

:flower:

It was absolutely 200x better than I expected! The place & buildings reminded me of the countries at Epcot. I didn't expect it.

We had a blast and plan to dress up next year.
