Teppan Edo - Do we TRY it?

I was very underwhelmed when we went, I don't think I'd go back...I think the food was decent. I can go to one of these style restaurants at home though.

One of my favorite restaurants. I look for any reason to go to a hibachi restaurant. If you have never been, it is definitely worth a visit.

You've already decided, so great! Hope you enjoy! My daughter picked this for her 9th or 10th birthday and for a while it was her favorite restaurant at WDW. Not sure what it is now, but my now 8-yo loves Whispering Canton and Space 220, and my 12-yo once ordered the cheese plate for dessert at California Grill a few years back...

It does really depend on your chef - if you get into it, they usually get into it too, and they will often joke with the kids if the kids seem engaged. We went once a year for a few years running. The kids' steak is actually surprisingly good.

This is definitely true. If you're engaging with them, or at least paying attention, they will do more of a performance.
If you're ignoring them they're going to just cook your food and get it over with.

We've always enjoyed it. We do not have a hibachi place near us. The closest one is 90 minutes away, and it's not cheaper than Teppan Edo, so it's a bit of a treat for us.

Throwing in my 2 cents having eaten there once a year ago. We have local habachi places and have been to several others and the experience is pretty much the same everywhere. So that’s what we expected. Nothing more nothing less.

The service, ambience and chef presentation were average, no real complaints. But the food was bland and meat was tough and dry - practically inedible. Nothing has any real flavor including the sauces.

It’s kind of hard to mess up this kind of food but they did it. And it isn’t cheap for what it is. One of just a handful of Disney dining experiences that truly felt like a ripoff.

My wife and I were just there last week. We eat a lot of Japanese food (both hibachi and sushi) and we enjoyed it overall.

Pros: good quality food, sushi was delicious (though selection isn't what you'd find at some sushi bars), presentation was good overall

Cons: we could have gotten more food for our money at our go-to hibachi in Pittsburgh* (though that's true of a lot of WDW dining) and the chefs are a bit of a mixed bag. Some of them seemed to be doing more than what ours did, like creating Mickey heads out of noodles and being very entertaining. Of course, we see this same variation in entertainment value back home.

The Mrs said it was her favorite of the meals she had at WDW on this trip. I'd say it was one of my better dining experiences at WDW in recent memory, though I was disappointed that some tables got more entertainment than others. It's definitely on my shortlist of places to go if I had exactly one dinner at EPCOT.

* if you're local to Pittsburgh, Nakama in Wexford is the place to go!

Just coming back here to update and say that I am SO GLAD we did Teppan Edo! It was hands down our favourite meal out of the entire 10 day trip. While our chef was pretty chill (good, but not high energy) the food was FANTASTIC. Even my husband the critic thought his steak was delicious. It also ended up being our CHEAPEST sit down of the entire trip.

Our second favourite sit down was Biergarten.

We enjoy dining that has an experience with it when possible.
This line makes me say YES, go ahead and book Teppan Edo. I like to have an experience with my meal where I can as well, and the Teppan Edo experience is quite fun, especially if going to a hibachi restaurant isn't something you do often at home. To me, it's like dinner and a show. I also enjoy the food. It may not be the best in the category that I've ever had in my life, and they have whittled away what is included over the years, but I'd still go back. I went there in February and had a very nice time and would recommend it.

Editing to add I just saw the date on this and realized you posted the question in February. Oops!!!

If you have hibachi at home, it'll be about the same, no better. If you don't, it's a fun experience. To me personally, one of the best food items of the experience is the fried rice many make on the grill but Teppan Edo just gives you steamed so that's what keeps us from going there now.

The thing about Teppan Edo, and any Japanese hibachi steakhouse really - is what Chef you end up with. We had a chef a few years back, I think his name was Akiro, who was a riot! he made jokes, mostly about his ex-wife, and really added a lot of fun to the dinner. We've also had a quiet timid person, who would hardly say a word. Our food has been good for the most part, but we still have been to much better hibachi at other parts of the world. But all in all, we find ourselves always going back because it is a good time - usually.
