Tell me that the POP Century is wonderful, please. Recent reviews are thumbs down.

We stayed at Pop June 11-17. We asked for a non-smoking room, away from the elevators, but neither of our requests were honored. :sad2: The room smelled bad to us, but I have to say we never noticed any smoke from other rooms coming through the vents. Maybe we should have asked for a certain building, but the "non-smoking room" request was most important for us.
Our room was facing the pool, so we had a hard time falling asleep for the first couple of nights because of the noise.
Mousekeeping was great. One day we decided not to have mousekeeping come in, they were nice enough to leave some fresh towels for us (we didn't even ask for any) in a plastic bag outside our door.
We thought Pop was very clean resort, inside and out.
The resort was at full capacity when we were there, so the wait for the buses were long (20 mins or more). One night coming back from MK, we were able to get on the 4th bus to pick us up. That wait was about 45 mins long. Boy, were we tired, but at least we got to sit down on the bus that time. So I don't think we'll stay there without a car again during the busy time of year.

Stayed at Pop June 5-June12, 60's section...first floor, Rm 4142 facing the lake.

The room was clean, the foodcourt was decent, the view was great, the bar is kept open till midnight and DH and I had margaritas at night while the kiddos were asleep...we could do that 'cause there was a bench right in front of our room and it was facing the lake, how ideal. :)

Hmmm...the only negative for us was the fact that service, while we were there, was average. It didn't have that Disney "spark" that I've come to expect. They aren't rude and they did try to help out...it's just something I couldn't put my finger on...something was missing.

But as far as the resort goes, it's a fun, whimsical place to stay..esp if you are traveling with kiddos. My toddler loved talking walks around the resort and meeting up with giant characters. (Potato Head, Classic Mickey, Baloo, Mowgli, etc)

As with most things...attitude is the big factor. If you go in with a negative attitude then you will have a bad time. But if you go in with a great atttitude, and it sounds like you are :), then you should have a WONDERFUL time.

POP rocks! I loved it last year (and I was there during ALL of the hurricanes and POP was magnificient) and I"m also making a POP stop on my trip in Sept....so you need to judge for yourself, take what you read into consideration and give POP a try! ::MickeyMo

We also just returned from our third stay at Pop Century, and once again, we had a GREAT time!!!

Our room was in the 50 bldg, ground floor (Room #28) in the bldg with Lady. Room was very clean, mousekeeping was great, and it was a short walk to food court/bus stop area! (we've stayed in 50s bldg twice, and once in 60s)

We never had a problem with the food court - pretty good selection of food; and we did not have any problems with bus service. Most we waited was maybe 10 minutes!

We would definitely not hesitate to stay at Pop Century!! It is a great resort!

Harmony, did the bartender allow one adult to buy two drinks? We stayed at POP last July, and we're going back this Friday. :cool1:
I wrote a review on POP after our trip last year, and the only negative I can recall was one bartender insisting that "the adult I was buying for" be present when I went to buy two drinks to take back to the room. This happened on the last night, after we had done the same thing on two previous nights with no problem. :confused3
As I pointed out then, I thought it was better to have one parent stay with the sleeping kids, and just where were the kids of the folks who were seated at the bar?
It's a small point, but it does make for an enjoyable windup to the day when I can have something other than water or Coke, and I don't think 3 drinks apiece during a week's stay corrupted anyone! pirate:

DH and I had drinks at least two nights of our 6nights/7day stay. :teeth: And neither bartender insisted that both adults be present. DH brought my Margarita back to the room and we sat outside our room and looked at that lake. It was so great! If you can request a room, I highly recommend ours 'cause the bench is right outside the room and we left the blinds open in case our 9y/o needed us or if our toddler woke up. lol

And yes, it was nice to unwind after a hot, busy day at the park! Our oldest son was so surprised that we were actually going to drink a margarita 'cause at home we never do that! lol Hey, when on vacation...relax! ;)

Have fun this week...I'm so jealous! :goodvibes

We were there for an overnight stay...thought is was nice..we would go back. :p :p

Ditto just about everything here. Housekeeping was great, the grounds were fun, food court was pretty good, etc. But no way would I stay there again without a car. We really enjoyed everything about the trip and the resort, except for the transportation.

We're staying at POP in Sept. and the only thing that I am concerned about after reading this is getting stuck in a smoking room. Is there anything that I can do to make sure that we will have a non-smoking room? Are certain buildings non-smoking? We're traveling with our 1 year old DD and I really don't want to get stuck in a smoking room with her.

I know it's a value resort and I'm satisfied with a basic room.

On another site that I trust, there are reviews from visitors that are awful for this resort posted for May and June 2005. Obviously, this is very current; so, I'm concerned. We are going in October. Items discussed have been dusty rooms, worn bed sheets with small holes in them, not enough towels, smoking in non-smoking rooms, rude people, messy food court, etc. One person had to leave to another room because smoke was coming in through her vents of her non-smoking room.

I am soooooooooooooooooo glad you asked this question. We also are going to POp for the first time in July, having stayed at All Star Movies last August. Loved ASM but wanted to try something different! Thanks to all for their great comments! :mickeybar

I am heading there tomorrow at POP for 4 nights. (A quick budget trip!) I will let you guys know when I get back July 3. I'll let you guys know the bus service, the room, the mousekeeping, the crowds, the food, the pool and the check-in.

I don't know how to post pictures here on the board. Dan Murphy helped me with the ones on my sig. I can send you guys the pictures through email if you guys send me your email addy. It may take me a few days to send it as I am still learing how to download the pix and how to mail them.

ALOOOOHA!
