For our next trip, I would LOVE to stay at the Poly-- BUT I promise my youngest DS that we would stay at the Contemporary!

He is absolutely in love with this hotel. He is mesmerized by that monorail flying through the lobby and wants to be able to stand on one of those balconies outside his own room and watch it go by, day and night.

I really can't blame him, even if I know this will probably be pricey. Last trip, we did Chef Mickey's and I kind of got to like the Contemporary too.

So -- what do I call those rooms on the balconies you see inside the hotel? Are they tower rooms? What would be the best to get for a small boy to watch the monorail sail through? Not looking for concierge - but will get it if I have to. Am only thinking of a two to three night stay.

Anyone have any websites or info? Thanks!

Yes, those in that main building are called Tower rooms.

I believe all view/balconies are either of the lake/pool (back of the building) or they are of MK and the front of the building.

We had a view of MK. It was magical! You could see the monorail coming but not actually inside the building. You'd have to go out of your room door and be in the hallway and then look down to see the monorail go through.

Good luck!

Thanks beattyfamily!

Based on your info, I've looked around and found some pictures on the web. Really pretty!

I'm checking on prices now. Going outside of the room is what DS wants to do to see monorail. He thinks it would be cool to walk out the door and there it is!

jaletu2000,

Your DS will love it. I was 9 the first time I stayed at CR in a tower room and I thought it was the greatest. I'd request a MK view...that way you DS came view the Monorail as it goes around the lake (not to mention the beautiful views of MK). While you're there, treat yourself to dinner at the California Grille :) !

Have a great trip!!!

Jaleuto2000,
We Love the Contemporary and had a GREAT view of the monorail going right into the resort in a wing room on the third floor in the North garden Wing. It was room 7384 I believe and we could see everything including the monorail clearly going into the resort, cindys castle and space mountains dome . Take care and trust me you'll love the contemporary:bounce: :Pinkbounc

I too was fearful we would not like CR...But we all 4 LOVE that place! In fact, it is our favorite right now ;) ! And we have stayed in many others. Trying out AKL in Nov. and scared we won't love it as much. Huge modern rooms(we like the decor!) with great views, a fun arcade and pool, and easy access to the parks are big plusses. So much excitement and we LOVE the theming there-Mickey, MK and the Monorail! Enjoy!:D

Jaletu2002,

I think that's sweet you're doing this for your son. It's fun to make memories for the kids, isn't it? :D

I LOVE the Cont.! My 6 yr. old DD is mad we are going back to the poly because she loves the game room at the cont.! I loved the view from high up, but my knees gave out when I stepped out on the balcony!! Have fun!

One of our favorite resorts is the CR. We've always managed to get a tower, MK side room every stay. My DD will not stay anywhere else on Disney property, she loves it that much, and I must agree, it's my favorite place also. I like sitting on the balcony at night and watching the fireworks over MK. IMHO, its such a better view then inside the park.

Thanks everybody!

The more I look at it, the more excited I become! Sure hope I can get a room with an MK view. May have to only stay a short while as it is expensive - but what a memory for us.

Gabrielle, DS was the reason we got to take our cruise last June. He saw some pictures I was looking at on the web and got real excited. "I want to go on that boat!" My DS has Asperger's Syndrome and usually isn't too interested in any vacation.

Because of this reaction, I made a real effort, got the ressie, and worked hard to pull the money together to make it come true. And we ALL had such a great time! I probably would have just dreamed about it if he hadn't been so enthusiastic. And yes, it's a great memory I'll cherish. So I'm looking forward to the "train hotel".

I hope that you have a great time! My DH is 43 and has ALWAYS wanted to stay at The Contemporary. He will get his wish next April when we are on the 14th floor!

Jill

Hi Jaletu2000,

I had to go look up Aspergers Syndrome - I didn't know what it was.

Well, now I know you're not just sweet - you're an angel to care so much to give your boy these special times. I think there's a special place in heaven for kids and moms like you and your son.

I hope you have a wonderful time!!:D

-Gabrielle

Gabrielle,

That was a very sweet thing to say. We didn't know what Asperger's was either until very recently. It's a form of Autism. But don't worry - DS is doing well and will have a great life. He's so much better than a few years ago. He's much more outgoing and I actually think these trips and experiences help bring him out more. Thanks!

<<My DS has Asperger's Syndrome and usually isn't too interested in any vacation. >>

I'm the mom of an Aspie, too. Is your son into trains? I don't know if they do it at WDW, but at DLR you can ask to sit in the front car of the monorail...I bet he'd really like that.

We stayed at the CR 2 years ago. We loved it. We had a Garden view room that overlook MK.

It was pretty neat cause we could see the fireworks from our room. My dd was to little to stay up and watch them. So it was nice to put her to bed & be able to watch them myself. We were there in Aug when there were fireworks each night.

The convenience of both the monorail & bus stop were good.

I don't remember if it was the north or south garden side, it was the one closest to MK.

Missypie,

Yes, he's big into trains! I guess that's why he is so enthralled with this hotel. That's a good tip about the monorail. We'll try to do that. We did that once years ago when he was small. I don't think he remembers it though.

Kimberle, that is the cutest picture of Mickey and your daughter!

Thank you, jaletu2000.

They were rubbing noses.

She was 2.5. I bought her an autograph book. Her main "objective" was to chase the character's around, like a little groupie!

I do some volunteer work at DD's elementary school and have worked with 2 children with Aspergers. I must say I truly enjoy them. They are both SO bright(one is gifted) and interesting to talk too. I look forward to my time with them:D ! I do know how they can fixate on something and I imagine a train would be a good fixation while there! I am sure he will enjoy the CR! You may not want to be right on the floor over the monorail as the noise may make him too aware of each passing. Just a thought!
I hope you enjoy CR as much as our kids(and us;) ) did.:D
