Tell me about Teppanyaki

We have never eaten at a Japanese restaurant and now that it is on the Dining Plan we are going to try it. We are ususally meat and potatoes people (and take out Chinese or spaghetti is as ethnic as we get). What can we expect? I see steak and chicken on the menu in a combo. It doesn't seem like we could really go wrong there.

Do you sit with other families? Does the chef take your order? Honestly, no clue what to expect other than the chef cooks in front of you. Should we just go to a local Japanese restaurant and pick maybe Les Chefs de France or Alfredo's at Epcot?

We just returned from Disney and ate at Teppanyaki. We eat there every year. It was the best meal of the trip. We were there for lunch, and for 2 adults, and 2 kids (but they are 14 & 16, so are really adults), with one beer, 2 sodas, 4 salads, and a sushi appetizer, the bill came to around $110 which included tip & a 10% AP discount). You are seated at a table with another family (unless you are a large party...tables seat 8, I believe). The waitress takes your order, brings you your drinks, appetizers, etc..) Then the chef comes out, rereads everyones order, and does his thing...cuts up the veggies, usually makes a smoking volcano by stacking up rings of onions, and pouring oil and water into the center....not really much of a "show", but some of the chefs can be pretty funny. The waitress brings each person a bowl of rice, and before serving anything gives each person a damp washcloth to wash their hands. Our chef last week pretended he was going to flip a piece of broccoli into one of my kids mouths. Then they cup up the meats, and plop some on each person's dish. Each person also gets 2-3 tiny bowls of sauce to put on their food. Its really great, and I always wish we went back for a second time during each visit. Enjoy!
