Tell me about Kona?

My family ate at Kona in March - I wasn't feeling good so I skipped dinner. They loved it though, and raved mostly about the desserts which apparently were amazing. I can't give any advice on Boma - have never been there. :goodvibes

Kona dinner was one of our best the last trip we took - their food was really tasty and we had great service that night.

Breakfast is good, too.

Haven't been to Boma yet =)

Wondering if Kona is good? Is Boma better?

I had both on this last trip, 4/1-4/4, and I have to say they are both WONDERFUL in their own ways...

Kona had excellent steaks (I had the filet, DH had beef tenderloin) and I have to say wow about the pan-asian noodles with chicken and shrimp that my DD ordered...everything was just amazing, including desserts of course!!

As for Boma, it is a buffet, but it is by far the best buffet I have ever been to...in and out of the World! The prime rib is cooked to perfection, and the side dishes and soups just have their own flare of spices and flavors - I cannot say enough! My DH is usually pretty picky, and this is a definite favorite of his now. :thumbsup2

Honestly, I have already made my ADRs for both places on our upcoming trip. My family all agrees that both places are a must-do for us! I hope you enjoy whichever one you end up choosing... :goodvibes

I'm with Pices - we love them both. The Pan Asian noodles and shrimp were my choice and my not-yet-dh had them with chicken - wonderful! The deserts are aso great.

Boma is our very favorite restaurant at WDW. Never had a bad meal, there is something for everyone.

I'm with you guys!! Two of my favorite restaurants, in and out of The World! Hard to choose between them, though, being very different. How about Kona for Lunch and Boma for Dinner (different days of course). That's how we usually do it. Jane

Kona was our absolute best meal of the trip last week. We loved it, so much so we will probably be going back in July.
Here are some pictures and a small review from a live blog I did during our trip last week. Enjoy!

We checked in at the Kona Cafe right at 6:00PM and were seated in less than 5 minutes. Let me start off by saying this was the best meal of our trip. For those who have not dined at the Kona Cafe before it is a casual and relaxed atmosphere. It is Polynesian themed as you would expect. Our waitress was quick and efficient; however, she seemed rushed. She didn't rush our meal, but she always seemed in a hurry to address our table and move on. She took our drink orders and came back later with a round loaf of warm bread and an almond honey butter that I must say was very good.

There were about 9 different entrees to choose from on the menu. I ordered the 10oz filet mignon, with mashed potatos and asparagus. Kim oredered the almond crusted chicken with a Kona salad on the side. As I've already said this meal was the best of the trip. The food was fantastic. My filet mignon was cooked to perfection. It also seemed the quality of the filet was a cut above the other meats I've had during this trip. Kim's almond crusted chicken was also very good. The almond crusted coating on the chicken was light and tasty. I must admit I'm a salad person so I ate most of Kim's salad. It was very much like the salad you get at Ohana (restaurant next door).

For dessert Kim had the chocolate cheesecake and I had the Kona cone. This restaurant says it prides itself in its desserts. I would agree with them since our desserts were very good.

The total cost of our meal was $75.00 before the tip. I would say this restaurant would be a good choice with or without the dining plan. I don't think you would be sorry paying out of pocket.
Here are some photos from our meal at Kona Cafe.

We have eaten at both and if we could only choose one it would be Kona. Best meal of our trip last year and one of the 3 restaurants DS absolutely wants to go back to for our upcoming trip (Le Cellier and Crystal Palace for breakfast were his other requests).

We enjoyed Boma but maybe were there on an off night or maybe it just didn't live up to the hype here on the Dis. Neither DS or I want to go back this trip. We will be trying Jiko though!

Both Boma and Kona are great restaurants, but I have to say Kona wins out between the two:cool1: :cool1: The prime rib and filet are just AWESOME at Kona:thumbsup2 If I could only pick 1 of the 2, it would most definitely be Kona:woohoo: :woohoo: Kona is a must do for us every trip:banana:

Don't forget, the coffee is sooo good at Kona!!! This, plus the best meals!!! Have never been to Boma, though.

Kona is really good, me and mine ate there in Sept last year. He loved it so much that we are going back this year :D

These chicken wings are yumma :D

Kona Cafe is a must do for DH and I on every trip! We had a trip booked before free dining came out but we were not on the dining plan. This is one restaurant we booked anyway! The Kona Cone is my DH's favourite dessert and I love the Pan Asian noodles with shrimp ... yum! Boma is also really good ... excellent selection and leave room for the Zebra Domes! As previous posters have said, they are two totally different restaurants and it is hard to compare the two but we have had excellent food and service at both and we have reservations at both for our upcoming (free dining!) trip.

does it take one or 2 credits? I didn't like boma but I would love to try this.

My family HAS to eat dinner at Kona on every trip! We love it. All of our close friends who go also share their love for Kona. The asian noodle dish is amazing and the steak is as well. The desserts are pretty and yummy! You will be happy if you eat here. Also we have done breakfast here as well and it was also amazing. The pineapple macadamia nut pancakes were so wonderful!

The Kona Cafe is my family's all-time favorite WDW restaurant! :thumbsup2

All 3 meals are great, but we especially LOVE breakfast and dinner there. My favorite breakfast item is the pineapple macadamia-nut pancakes, along with a press pot of 100% Kona coffee... :cloud9:

For dinner my favorite entree' is the sirloin with pineapple mango salsa. The steak has always been extremely tender, and tasty!

I think they have new desserts on the menu, so I'm going to wait and see (in 4 1/2 weeks!!) what looks the best on the menu. Maybe we'll order a few of them and do a taste-test. They seem to have done away with our old favorite dessert, the Kiluea torte. :sad2: I'm optimistic that I'll find a new dessert that I'll like equally as well though. :sunny:

I've had breakfast and dinner at Boma, and while it was very good and I would dine there again IF I were staying at AKL again, I will not make a special trip there just to eat.

P.S. I have a lot of pictures from our meals at Kona Cafe (and Boma, for that matter) on my website. The link is below in my signature. :)

What makes you think this? I just checked Deb's menus and it's still there:confused3 . I can't bear the thought of no kiluea torte. That would be like Disney with no Mickey...NOOOOO:guilty:

We love both and would be hard pressed to choose one over the other. They are very different. We prefer the atmosphere more at Boma's and LOVE their soups and zebra domes:cloud9: . The first time I went to Konas I was very disappointed in the decor. I swear it looks like a very cheap, local coffee shop. However, the food is amazing. I love the pot stickers, mahi mahi, and banana creme brulee:cloud9: . We already have ADRs for both Konas and Boma for our Sept trip. I believe Kona now has a braised pork belly salad, and a tuna oscar with fried green tomatoes and lump crab. I'm just hoping they don't change the menu again before I get down there to try them. Does anyone else know exactly what you are going to order at a restaurant 6 months before you go?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyone miss the Turkey Medallions w/bacon???

Maybe I'm in lonely country here, but this was the reason why I loved Kona's so much and I don't see it on the menu anymore????:confused3

So sad :(
