Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

the pumpkin spice funnel cake at the kiosk outside American Adventure. Holy WOW that is so good. DH and I got one last year when we went down for Food and Wine, and it was amazing.

Is that there year round? I love anything pumpkin spice!!

:wave2:

Not much exciting to report. Feeling rather stupid subbing for a secretary when I really know nothing about how to be a secretary! It was fine and dandy for just an occasional day but the reality of several weeks/months is hitting along with just how much I don't know! I do have instructions on how to make the coffee in the morning so as long as I don't screw that up maybe they will let everything else slide.:rolleyes1

I had to make up my own little phone message notecards because I keep forgetting to get the important things, like names and phone numbers! Today I learned how to answer the phone when it rings to their office through their direct line. Easy peasy, right? But there are 3 offices with 3 phones and I can't tell which one is ringing! I am only supposed to answer if it is person A's phone but they all sound exactly alike when they ring! I did manage to use the super duper copy machine without breaking it.:woohoo:

I am really liking that I get to interact with the kids as something other than the mean teacher sub that assigns busy work and has to discipline them. I get to be the sweet, caring, helpful person that I really prefer to be.
 Don't beat yourself up you'll see it will get easier the more you do it. It's like that for everyone starting something new!

Worked out Tues and Wed. 45 minutes on the elliptical, 16 reps a piece or more on the ab machines, arms and did my back exercises. Then I swam-- only 15 minutes tues, and 10 mins today but I did swim 45 minutes + working out Saturday.

This a great routine, because it sounds *gasp* fun! My gym has a pool but I haven't tired it yet. I do love that ab machine I always feel so "fit" when I'm done
Had two bad weeks (water heater busted leaking through DS ceiling, laptop busted then I snagged my thumb staking my sons bean sprout from school and got a DTaP shot, ouch!) but am finally back to where I was two weeks ago, with a clean house and about the same weight as at the beginning of all that drama. (a big deal, for me)
Grrr.
Just glad to be back on program.

 I hate weeks like that when it feels like you can't a break. And yes I completely understand why not gaining any weight during that time is a big deal. I always over eat or eat a lot of junk when I'm stressed. Good job on not doing that! :thumbsup2

Does anyone have any advice as to where to purchase hand weights? I want to get two sets for at home so DD17 and I can work out together. I got the Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 and 30 Day Shred DVD's from Amazon, and need to get some hand weights. I would like to have 3's, 5's, 8's and 10's. Any suggestions?

I have some I got at Modells a while back, but why not check on amazon as well?

:wave2:

Well, I have not worked 3 days in a row in over 16 years-- since I was pregnant with my first child. This week I worked Monday, Wed, Thurs, Fri and I am full time until the secretary comes back. We are adjusting pretty well but there is a lot that changes when I am not home all day. I think the cats are having the hardest time! But I am also finding that I really like it so I may be looking for a secretary/receptionist job next year. I would really like to find one in the school system since I do love the kids but with a lot of budget cuts coming up that may be difficult.

I need to do some cooking this weekend and make some soup and breakfast muffins for next week. I did really well this week and keeping on plan and taking all my food for the day. Of course every day there was something in the lounge-- donuts, cake and other goodies. So I completely avoided the lounge!

The biggest problem is that I can't really drink a lot of water. There is no bathroom in this office so I can't just run in and out quickly. The only options are the main office across the hall where they would notice I was in there every 30 mins or down the hall and that takes too long and I have to let someone know I am leaving the desk-- again, they would notice! I try to use the one down the hall just so I get a little bit of walking. I would love to be able to do a lap through the halls once an hour but that isn't possible. I do try to take the long way when I go to check the mail.

I need to find some "sitting at the desk" exercises I can do, especially for core strengthening. The only problem with trying to do something in my chair is that I sit by a huge window to the hall and the main office is directly across from me with the same huge window so they can see everything I am doing!:rotfl2: I would have to sneak it in when no one is looking! There is a conference room in the office so I can sneak in there for my lunch time if it isn't being used. If the window wasn't there I would probably try to do some WATP while others are out of the office or in a meeting and can't see me! Wonder if they would notice if I looked like I was pacing? :lmao:

I knew it would get easier! Sitting jobs are hard... I have the same problem. I do get my water intake because there is a cooler close to my desk but I also keep a 32 oz water bottle on my desk. When it comes to lunch I go for a walk outside. On the desk sometimes I stand up and work like that for awhile. Also when I have to do filing or something I try to sneak in some squats! :rotfl:

Evening ::MickeyMo

Well, we just got home from dropping mom off at the airport. I had two muffins this morning for breakfast. Then I had two hot dogs and two deviled eggs for lunch. Well, we decided to stop at IHOP and grab some dinner. I had 2 eggs over easy, hasbrowns, 2 pieces of toast, and a large chocolate milk. I'm going to jump over to my Sparkpeope here in a minute and log it all. I still haven't weighed myself for the week yet so I may just skip the weigh in for the week.

I started making my to do list for tomorrow. I'm going to be busy over the next couple days between cleaning, organizing, and my normal beginning of the month routine (i.e. inventoring pantry, fridges, and freezers). We also have to go buy a new vacuum which HIGHLy ticks me off. The one we had isn't that old and it just died on us today. That was not $ I was looking at spending.

Well, hope everyone has a great Sunday! Tomorrow officially starts WEEK 20 for me! 20 weeks I have been on this getting healthy journey. Wow, that's hard to believe.

Is that there year round? I love anything pumpkin spice!!

I think the pumpkin spice funnel cake is just seasonal, but I'm not positive - I'll check this summer! ;) It was really delicious - and I'm not a huge funnel cake fan usually (it tends to sit like a rock after I indulge!).

I've had a couple of indulgent days, but I've tracked everything (including a whole pile of wine on a 3-winery tour day today...), and I did 45-minute (hard!) bike rides last night and tonight. Tomorrow we're back out for more fun stuff, but food will be easier to control. I might just come out of this stretch without slipping too much!

QOTD: One of my favorite "good" options at WDW is the chili salad thing at Fairfax Fare in DHS. I hold the cheese and stir the chili up with the salad, at which point I don't need dressing. I'm sure it's not super light, but I feel like it's a pretty good choice. I also really like the fruit stand a few doors down - and anywhere I can pick up whole fruit. It's pricey, but I like to travel light in the parks, and so I'm not always carrying snacks with me, and it's nice to have that option!

Good morning TEAM MICKEY!

Gretchen, thanks for coaching this week! :flower3: I don't think we've ever had anyone coach us from WDW before! :cool2:

I've been at DL and MK on very crowded days. It is not so magical to me but I would have loved to have been at Epcot where it was quiet! :teeth:

I have to confess that I don't worry too much about healthy foods when I am on vacation. Instead I make sure I get right back OP when I return. I love roasted vegetables but I have to admit that no matter who prepares them, beets taste like dirt to me. :rotfl2:

Well, I'm proud to be setting a coaching precedent then! I went to Epcot on Thursday night and it was DEAD. 20 minute waits for Test Track and Soarin' at 8:20pm. I'd never had beets before this salad, and while I'm still not sure if I like them, they weren't bad at all.

QOTD -- i'm a bad WISHer on vaca too...but i do usually steer the fam to Columbia Habour House for a lunch that's more on track. and Gretchen that salad sounds heavenly!

omg...24 hrs open at MK!! woot! woot! but there is no way this gal is standing in line for 4 hours for character photos...holy cow!

I love Columbia Harbour House but haven't gotten there yet since I've been here. I hear the four hours were for Rapunzel and Flynn Rider and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

I really like the Grilled Vegetable panini at Backlot Express in MGM (DHS). It is really good. DH and I usually split it because even though it's just veggies and thin bread, it's very filling.

They have the same thing at Studio Catering Co., also in DHS. You are right-it is very filling.

I would really like to find one in the school system since I do love the kids but with a lot of budget cuts coming up that may be difficult.

Of course every day there was something in the lounge-- donuts, cake and other goodies. So I completely avoided the lounge!

I'm glad you are liking your job! And good for you for avoiding the lounge!

My favorite Disney food is the fish and chips at the CS in England and I love the Potstickers at the CS in China!

Fish and chips are on my list of things to try while I'm here!

Also another :woohoo: moment for me: with my weigh in this week (184.2 lbs) which I still have to send to dvccruiser76--sorry!-- I am in a new weight category for Weight Watchers and I now have 27 points daily instead of 28, and when this challenge began January 1 I had 29 points! I am definitely moving in the right direction!!!

Congratulations! :woohoo:

Is that there year round? I love anything pumpkin spice!!

I think it is...at least, they still had it a few weeks ago. I also love all things pumpkin, but I haven't been able to bring myself to buy it because it's $7! :scared1:

Well, hope everyone has a great Sunday! Tomorrow officially starts WEEK 20 for me! 20 weeks I have been on this getting healthy journey. Wow, that's hard to believe.

20 weeks and you're still going strong! That's great!

That sounds really good, will have to check it out!

************
Today was just a horrible day. My alarm didn't go off, so I overslept by an hour (thank goodness my roommate's went off, otherwise it would have been longer), and I missed the bus. The next one would have gotten me to work way late, so I had to take a $20 taxi ride there. My work shoes, which weren't great shoes but were doing what I needed them to do, have developed literal holes in the bottoms where my big toes are. And my camera screen cracked somehow, so I sent it in for repair because it's still under warranty. But apparently cracked screens aren't covered, so I needed to pay $105 to have it fixed. :headache:

But I walked to the Premium Outlets tonight (only about 10-15 minutes each way) and bought some Skechers D-Lites for $47. They seem like decent shoes. Clearly, the people at Disney who decided we needed polish-able, white athletic shoes, with no contrasting and preferably no logos at all never actually tried to buy such things.

Work itself was fine and it actually went by pretty quickly. One family asked me if I'd been there for 24 hours, since I guess they saw me there yesterday too! Tomorrow I'm working 9:45-6:30 out at the Auto Plaza. Tuesday we have our apartment inspection, so I need to go to WalMart and buy floor cleaner.

QOTD 3/4: Sleep is a very important part of staying healthy. Many of us have said that when we are tired, we overeat and tend to go for junk. How many hours of sleep do you get a night? What could you do to improve your sleep habits? Any techniques that make it easier to fall asleep?

I try to get 7-8 hours per night, and if that's not possible, I take a nap during the day when I can. When I'm at home in NY, I find that leaving my computer in another room before bed makes it easier to fall asleep-that way I'm not up on the computer at all hours! I listen to music or read before I fall asleep, but because I have ADHD, I also take either Melatonin or Ambien almost every night, unless I've really exhausted myself that day!

Disney QOTD: There is a blog called Simple Disney Things. I recommend typing it into your search engine and checking it out. What is your favorite simple Disney thing?

My favorite Simple Disney Thing is the sound of all 99 seatbelts clicking at the end of Soarin'. I know that means everyone is now getting off a ride that I love, and I hope they loved it too!

I'm up about 1/3 of a pound this week.... :headache: I worked really hard though this week to meet my February exercise goal of 1,600 minutes. I made it - ya! - but I didn't eat well enough due to stress at work. I feel like I wasted all of the time at the gym. Sigh.

Oh well - this is another week and I will prevail!

My favorite guilty pleasure at WDW is School Bread....mmmmmmm :cloud9: and I have to second the roasted beet salad at Sunshine Seasons as my favorite healthy thing :thumbsup2

I have been having a really hard time getting to sleep on time these days. I've been going to the gym late, not getting home until 10 or 10:30, so I'm too amped to get to bed. Also, I like CSI / NCIS / Criminal Minds all come on at 11pm, so that doesn't help either!

The music in Epcot by Spaceship Earth!

Good to know about Studio Catering.
We usually don't go there because it's crowded but at least there is a second place. It's a really good sandwich and I would recommend it to anyone!

Sleep- I don't get nearly enough but I do typically go to bed earlier than I did when I was a teen. I probably get between 6 and 8 hours but it's not uninterrupted, kids, bathroom, DH rolling over, all reasons I wake up.
No idea how to improve, maybe work out more but I have to do it in the morning. If I work out to late at night, I'm wired. I usually read, do crossword puzzles, or listen to music before falling asleep. I need to unwind from the day. I also make my list for the next day. If I dump it out of my head, then it stops swirling around.

Simple Disney things - I love the seatbelt clips too!! My favorite though is the silhouettes of the kids. So simple and inexpensive but my most cherished Disney souvenir. I also just like walking down the main walkways with the kids, taking our time and just soaking up the atmosphere.

I thought about trying to take a walk at lunch but I really need to stay in the office at lunch time. I know I am allowed a 30 minute lunch break and could leave but since I have been spending so much of the day doing nothing (reading a book, crocheting, working on personal stuff on my laptop) I don't feel like I am missing my break if I have to answer a phone or greet a student while I am eating. Heck, at least I GET to eat! The others in the office are lucky if they get a few minutes to run to the bathroom! I have yet to see any of them actually get a few minutes to sit down and eat anything more than a banana or handful of chips before they have to deal with something else.

I absolutely fall apart if I don't get enough sleep. My body is having a hard time adjusting to this new schedule. I am NOT a morning person so getting up at 6:30am and having to be cheerful and coherent by 7:30 is not something I am used to! Trying to get to bed earlier than my usual 11:30pm. I had some trouble sleeping this week and was waking up around 4 or 5 am and couldn't get back to sleep. I think it was just nervousness. Slept great Friday night and last night. I will take a Melatonin when I go to bed if I think that I may have trouble falling asleep.

It was absolutely not wasted-- think about where you would be now if you hadn't exercised. Up .33 is no where near as bad as up 3 or more! Besides, the time you spend exercising contributes to so much more than weight loss-- you are making your entire body stronger and healthier with the exercise you do. No time spent exercising is a waste.

I have no idea why I got up early this morning. I woke up around 8 and couldn't fall back asleep so figured I may as well just get up. My kids both had a late night so I let them sleep in and we missed church. We have another late night tonight because we are going to a concert/comedy show. We are really looking forward to it.

Going to really mess up our dinner schedule though. The concert is at 6 and will probably be until 8:30-9. We usually eat around 6:30. So when you factor in getting there early to get seated (it is open seating) we will leave home around 4:30. It will be bedtime for at least one kid and maybe both by the time we get home. I told DH we probably need to have a big "dinner" around 3pm and maybe take some sort of snack for the kids in the car so they can eat on the way home. I really hate it when the routine gets messed with but sometimes it can't be helped.

I never got any soup made yesterday so need to try to do that today. Also need to start baking cakes for DD11's birthday party in a few weeks. Since I won't be home to do it the day or two before I need to get it done now and freeze them. She is having a cake decorating party like her sister did.

Guess I better go figure out some lunch and what we are having for early dinner. Everyone have a great ON PLAN day!:cheer2:

Morning!

I think I've posted quite a few times about my erratic sleep. I wake up from nightmares frequently and then from the time I fall asleep the first time to time I get out of bed for the day is sometimes 14 or more hours. Thursday morning is was over 15 hours! :scared1: I was able to get a med check that afternoon and he recommended some great changes. :) Friday morning I woke up after almost 10 hours of sleep, but I was convinced my sister was there and mom was completely confused. I will definitely have to mention that one to my doctor when I go in for my previously scheduled appt this week. Yesterday, I slept until almost 11:30 AM, but I was up late the nigt before, so it was just over 12 hours. I clearly need sleep, but 14+ hours. :scared1: It is definitely a work in progress.

My favorite guilty pleasure at WDW: hmm. This is hard. The last time I was there I spent some time in Epcot by myself and I tried a bunch of different things. I'd eat a bite or two and then throw it out. It seemed like such a waste, but I really didn't have another option. I was also not eating GF then. It was literally less than 2 weeks before I was told I had an allergy to wheat, etc. I really enjoyed the funnel cake I had in MK, but it isn't something I have to have. As for something healthy, I also like the veggie sandwich in DHS. I like to eat a Sunsine Seasons, although I can't remember what I ate. I enjoyed the scallops app I had a Le Cellier as well. It was very filling. I actually ate it as my dinner. (I don't think my waitress was very happy about that, but I don't eat huge amounts of steak and I was trying to be healthy.)

I am having problems with my laptop's keyboard. I cannot use the letters in the bottom row, which means I cannot use it to log on here, myfitnesspal, Facebook, etc. I also cannot compose anything written. I am using my mom's computer, which is fine, but I will have to delete the websites I viewed. :headache: She doesn't understand message boards and I really don't want to spend the time explaining to her that my closest friends are online.

I am off to do a few things for the day. I ate an OP breakfast and really want to get to the gym. I'm sure my parents will appreciate the hour of quiet. For some reason, they think I ramble. :rotfl:

Have a great, OP Sunday everyone!

I usually need anywhere from 8 - 9 hours of sleep. I know they typically tell you not to watch tv before you go to bed but that's how I wind down. Sometimes though I'll read a book instead. I also like a previous poster stated try to make a to do list before I go to bed. I also am the type of person that as soon as I lay down I've got a million things running through my head.

Disney QOTD: There is a blog called Simple Disney Things. I recommend typing it into your search engine and checking it out. What is your favorite simple Disney thing?

My favorite simple thing at Disney would just be the people watching. I can sit on a bench at whichever park for hours and just watch people go by. My favorite thing to do on our last Disney cruise was watch from a few decks up all the kids interacting with the characters at meet and greets.

Howdy ::MickeyMo

Well, looks like our plans to go get a vacuum will be put off until tomorrow. Alan said it started downpouring here around 5am and although it looks like its stopped its pretty chilly. I just finished breakfast about half an hour ago. I'm going to get some muffins made up for the coming week and get the turkey bacon cooked up. I realized I didn't need to make egg cups because the ones I made last week are still in the freezer. So, that'll cut down on the time I need to be in the kitchen. I think we've decided on salmon for dinner so I also need to figure out what else we're going to have with it. I'm thinking rice and a veggie but we shall see.

The Nascar race starts at 2:30 so I'm hoping to get my batch cooking done by then. Then we'll watch the race and I'll get a workout in during (push ups, sit ups, marching in place, etc) and then afterwards I'll get on my treadmill and get my mileage in for the day.

If I don't get it done today I need to work on getting our bedroom cleaned up at some point either today or tomorrow. We also need to get our bathrooms clean. We couldn't do it while mom was here because every cleaning product I have is citrus and she's allergic to it.

QOTD: I usually don't have trouble falling to sleep. I just started taking an Herbalife product when I am having trouble. I am always skeptical about these things but I have to say I do get to sleep and feel refreshed in the morning. I do sometimes wake up during the night but fall right back to sleep.

Disney QOTD: I love to stroll around World Showcase and just look at everything.

Getting together with our friends finally today to do our Disney planning. We plan to work out our schedule and the meals we hope to eat while there. I made out a tentative schedule. Brian made a spreadsheet that we can add to.

Didn't do another workout last night. Well, I did some of the exercises from the 30 Day SHred but not the whole thing. Just way too sore. I will do the elliptical tonight when we get home. Weekends always work against me in terms of weight loss. No plans yet next weekend so I hope to stay on plan completely.

Slept until about 6:30 got up, did a few things, got back into bed and read and then fell asleep again for a bit. I love my Kindle Fire! Just had to say that!

Time to have an energy drink and then brush my teeth!

TTFN :tigger:

Thanks for the encouraging words!

I always used to work through my lunch break or eat at my desk but after many years of doing so and now overseeing managers who have done so, I cannot stress how important it is to get away from the desk, phone, computer, etc. for a lunch break. Our mental health is as important as our physical health! :goodvibes You'll also come back to the job refreshed and recharged after your break.

Maybe your office could arrange to take lunch in shifts so the office is always covered? Or maybe someone could keep track of the busiest times of day (a traffic log, so to speak) so that "lunch time" could be taken at an atypical time.

What I've found the hardest is getting my managers to actually just get up and walk away at lunch time...because the phone will always ring or a client will come in... For so many of us, the "real" work that we are expected to get done (usually paperwork!) needs to be completed around a series of interruptions - but those "interruptions" (students, clients, etc) are often the most important work we do!

I've enjoyed reading everyone's healthy and not-so-healthy Disney indulgences. healthy at Disney is hard for me- hmmmm- I pretty much eat what I want on vacation and try to exercise a lot and ge back on plan as soon as I board the plane back home.

Thanks everyone for the advice about where to get the weights. We don't have a Modells's here, so I went to Target. I was able to get 3's, 5's, 8's, and 10's.

As for sleep- I usually sleep pretty well a lot of the time but once every two weeks or so I will have a very sleepless night, and I cannot figure out why. It's happened about 10 times I guess, in the last 6 or 7 months. Weird. I hope to get that all worked out but so far its not a huge problem.

Have a great op night everyone!!

Good evening friends!

Finally got some planning accomplished! Didn't eat well and had a few drinks today but that's how my weekends go! We had a lot of fun too!

We have booked 4 meal reservations. We have to choose our place for our meal out alone and are trying to decide where to go! Happy to have that done! We have a few more things to schedule but the main stuff is done. Waiting for some new discount codes to come through.

Tomorrow will be catch up day for me! I have to get my tax stuff together and clean up my desk. I plan on getting in several workouts tomorrow and then we are going tubing tomorrow night! It's going to be cold but that's just the way it goes. The girls are going again on Wednesday with one of Izzie's friends if the conditions are any good. May be too warm.

Making some calzones for us to have during the week tomorrow while I'm home. I will also probably watch Season 2 of Downton Abbey again. That will keep me focused.

Time to watch Celebrity Apprentice on then off to bed!

TTFN :tigger:

Evening ::MickeyMo

Well today was productive: I had breakfast, did some batch cooking, got a short workout in and then watched the Nascar race. Then we had dinner and I got a short treadmill workout in. I played around on the computer some and then watched the 2 hour season premiere of Army Wives.

I'm hoping tomorrow to get a new vaccum at Sears and pick up some things at Wally World for a few care packages that I need to get made up. One of my friends is deployed overseas and one of my widow friends just recently had a surgery. I'm hoping the care packages will cheer them both up.

Tomorrow's dinner is already planned considering I remembered the Schwans man will already be here again on Saturday. I've tried the strawberry banana smoothies we got and they were good but don't think I'll buy them again. I'm going to make grilled chicken with sweet potatoes (Schwans product) and some brocolli and cheese. Then Tuesday I'll make a dish with the roasted garlic potatoes I got from Schwans as well. I'm loving the chocolate frozen yogurt they have, YUM! Then Wednesday we'll probably have a pizza for either lunch or dinner.

Good morning fellow Mickeys!!
Had a good weekend! Started a new workout plan provided by Tyson Chicken. They had a special to offer a 30 day plan for free and I chose the strength training. Am very sore today after the first workout yesterday. Will see how it goes!
Am really busy this week, but will work hard to keep track of my food and water!
I hope you are all doing well!!!:thumbsup2

Good morning losers! Today I am busy cleaning the apartment because our inspection is tomorrow! Someone the other day mentioned that cleaning was a favorite form of non-traditional exercise. So, for the QOTD:

What is your favorite chore?

And for the DQOTD:

Where is your favorite spot to sit and people watch?

Favorite chore??? Are you nuts!!! LOL
If I had to pick one it would be mowing lawn. It helps me to process my thoughts, work out some stuff and the family leaves me alone!! LOL
We have an acre and I push mow the whole thing!

Disney people watch - There aren't enough sitting area in the main walking parts for Disney but I do like to sit outside at counter service restaurants and watch people.
And over by the Exposition Hall used to have good benches, not sure if they are still there though. They weren't last time we were there because they were working one the front of the building.

QOTD: For actual chores, I don't mind vacuuming! I love a clean floor! We sit on the floor of the living room to play games a lot and have picnics so I vacuum as much as possible. I enjoy cooking which to some is a chore! I made 3 calzones this morning for us to have throughout the week as well as there is still some pulled pork left from the weekend. We have been baking cookies and brownies over the past few weeks as I love the smell of fresh baked goodies.

I've done 2 elliptical workouts so far today. I hope to get in 2 more later. We can't go tubing until tomorrow evening so I will get all these extra workouts in today.

I got some of my tax stuff together and am waiting to receive some additional numbers that I didn't keep track of from one of my supervisors.

Gotta pick up Ash in about 45 minutes so I had better get some other stuff done. We have to go run errands when I pick her up and then Izzie has Irish step class at 4. Then we get to be home the rest of the night.

Time to squeeze in one more elliptical workout before heading out!

Have a great Monday!
