Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Hi Mickeys!

I have some QOTD catching up to do...

Sleep: I do not get enough sleep. I used to be able to get by on not enough sleep, but ever since I started exercising more, I feel the lack of sleep more! I think it's that I get better quality (deeper?) sleep on exercise, and so I feel the lack of hours more keenly. I've been trying to wind down earlier and go to bed earlier, but it's so hard. After the girls go to bed, I get down to other business, and those hours go by so fast! DH and I are prioritizing our DVR for the shows we want to watch together vs. the ones we don't mind watching separately in the hopes that we can stop watching earlier at night.

Chores: It sounds crazy, but I kind of like laundry. There's something satisfying about a pile of warm, clean clothes, and I usually fold while I'm watching TV, so I'm entertained. :)

People-Watching at Disney: Anywhere in the World Showcase - get a beverage (or that awesome cookie from Karamell Kuche!) and just sit on a ledge somewhere and take in the sights. The benches outside Rose & Crown are another fun spot.

Got up this morning and started my last week of Ripped in 30! It's actually my second week of her Week 4, but because I do her workout 3-4 times a week, I've been doing each week for two weeks instead. I'm thinking now about where to go with strength next. I have Tracy Anderson's Metamorphosis, which is kind of crazy (my sister loves it), so probably that. But any other suggestions? I like the 20-30 minute format so I have time for cardio, too. Is the 30-Day Shred similar to Ripped in 30, for those who've done both?

Then I put a roast in the crockpot for dinner tonight (one of the joys of working here at home), and it's starting to smell really good in here. Unbelievably, this is the first time I've done one (the crockpot is new, and I'm just starting to delve into it); I hope the family likes it!

I got a chunk of work done and am now getting ready to run a couple of errands before picking up DDs - DD7 has her piano lesson this afternoon. One errand is a new hand mixer! I've had the same really simple, basic one for years, and the last time I took it out, it just plain wouldn't work. I cheered. :) Time for an upgrade!

And Zumba tonight...

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

XO
Liz

Good morning TEAM MICKEY!

I noticed quite a few people commenting that they hadn't sent their weigh ins yet so please be sure to do so ASAP as our lovely weightkeeper will be posting the results in a few hours!

LTS, you are so organized. I'm sure that your adjustment to working will happen fairly quickly. It would be nice to get up and walk around a bit during the day. That sitting is so hard on your body. :goodvibes

Tracey, congrats on the loss this week! :thumbsup2

Hello my favorite bunch of losers on the planet! We shall all lose this week!

Melinda, I hope that you are right! :thumbsup2

Congrats on your loss, too! ::yes:: That is one of the prices of success having your points/calories go down -- I know whenever mine changes I miss those little extras way more than I should. :rotfl:

Bicki, the pool is a lot of fun especially if you are used to doing other things. Turns out to be a good calorie burner, too. :beach:

Kristina, congrats on your 20 week streak! :cool1:

Liz, yum winery tour! :drinking1 Indulgences are a-okay -- it's a lifestyle and you have to live it up sometimes! :hippie:

Well, I'm proud to be setting a coaching precedent then!

:thumbsup2 It's a good one! ::MickeyMo

QOTD 3/4: Sleep is a very important part of staying healthy. Many of us have said that when we are tired, we overeat and tend to go for junk. How many hours of sleep do you get a night? What could you do to improve your sleep habits? Any techniques that make it easier to fall asleep?

Disney QOTD: There is a blog called Simple Disney Things. I recommend typing it into your search engine and checking it out. What is your favorite simple Disney thing?

I used to be a champion sleeper never had a bit of trouble but when my dad passed away seven years ago that ability seems to have left me too. That is one of the reasons why you see me on the Disboards at 4 a.m. before I go workout at 5 a.m. I get about 7 hours of sleep a night. If I don't have enough sleep I do not function well at all. Just this morning I heard a story on NPR about changing habits. http://www.npr.org/2012/03/05/147192599/habits-how-they-form-and-how-to-break-them?ps=cprs Getting my sleeping habits in order is a goal of mine for this year. :hippie:

I do enjoy those Simple Disney Things links that you post on your FB, Gretchen. I would say one of my favorite simple Disney things is the music -- really any of the Disney music or sounds anywhere. Like the sounds of crickets in the bathroom in Bug's Land at DCA. :cool2:

I'm up about 1/3 of a pound this week.... :headache: I worked really hard though this week to meet my February exercise goal of 1,600 minutes. I made it - ya! - but I didn't eat well enough due to stress at work. I feel like I wasted all of the time at the gym. Sigh.

Over a 1/3 of a pound? Come on, you know that hard work will pay off any day now. Don't be so hard on yourself. :flower3: Must be the stress talking. ;)

Good morning fellow Mickeys!!
Had a good weekend! Started a new workout plan provided by Tyson Chicken. They had a special to offer a 30 day plan for free and I chose the strength training. Am very sore today after the first workout yesterday. Will see how it goes!
Am really busy this week, but will work hard to keep track of my food and water!
I hope you are all doing well!!!:thumbsup2

Sounds like a tough workout! :thumbsup2 But I have to admit to a bit of giggling thinking of the chicken workout. ;)

What is your favorite chore?

And for the DQOTD:
Where is your favorite spot to sit and people watch?

Favorite chore??? Are you nuts!!! LOL

:lmao: Okay, have to admit I am with Buffy on this one! :rotfl:

I'll go with washing the sheets because I do love a nice clean bed on Sunday nights. :cool2:

Boy, there are so many places to watch people at DL and WDW. Probably any place as the afternoon and evening goes on -- I really do not like those people with tired, crying children yelling about how much money they've spent on their vacation and how everyone has to have a good time, *$&$ it! :rolleyes1

Here is my PSA for today. Please, please be sure that your computer files are properly backed up. I had to reset my work computer to back factory settings on Friday due to a Windows problem. I didn't lose anything and the experience hasn't been too bad because I have multiple onsite and offsite backups to restore from. Really the only thing that is a pain is loading up the software again and now I will have all the pertinent info written down. Ye be warned! pirate:

Have a great day all!

What is your favorite chore?

Where is your favorite spot to sit and people watch?

Chore? Seriously? Hmmmm, sleeping? Does that count? I guess cooking dinner.
Disney? Wow, so many places, but I love the small area at the front of MK next to Roy and Minnie - to see the faces that light up when they see the castle for the first time.

Here we celebrate our progress and recognize our superstars.

Biggest Loser Fall Challenge Week 9!
This week’s group loss = 23.9 pounds!
Average percentage of weight lost 0.52 %
Total group weight loss so far 363.7 pounds!

AWESOME!

Retention Rate (compared to the 72 participants we had sign up for our start week on January 1st)
40% (this includes the Losers, Maintainers and Excused people!). Let's keep sending those weights people!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 9?

The WISH Biggest Loser Spring Challenge Team Mickey Week 9 Superstars!!
#10 - 0.74% - tigger813

NOW FOR THOSE OF US WHO SET A GOAL FOR THE CHALLENGE!!!

NOTE: This list includes participants who have reported in within the last 3 weeks, once someone misses 3 weigh-ins they are dropped from this report.

How this works: You set your goal for what you want to lose in the challenge. Then I calculate your weight loss in the challenge divided by your goal to get a % to goal.

Anybody can change their goal at anytime (or add a goal) – all you have to do is send me a PM.

Since the goals are an individual thing, the list is just in alphabetical order to make it easier for everybody to find their own name. If there are any questions or suggestions please let me know.

We have done 9 out of 21 weeks, so the challenge is 43% complete.

WOOHOO!!!! I made the Top Ten!!!! Of course, I'm still above where I started! I am pushing myself really hard this week but still feeling good!

I did 3 20 minute pre-set workouts on the elliptical today plus the 30 Day Shred.

Congrats, Nancy on being the BL this week!

Heading to bed as I can't stop yawning! Gotta get up early to workout and prepare for the rest of the day.

Finally going to the tubing park tomorrow night at 6 after Ash's dance class. Last day it will be any good since it will be in the upper 60s the rest of the week and next week! Weird winter here!

Got my taxes organized I think! I do a printout so I have everything together on one sheet since I have separate businesses. The refund will hopefully pay for PCC3.0!

Got some possible extra money making things coming up in the next 2 months so I'm excited about that!

Good morning TEAM MICKEY!

I noticed quite a few people commenting that they hadn't sent their weigh ins yet so please be sure to do so ASAP as our lovely weightkeeper will be posting the results in a few hours!

Phooey! We had a crazy busy weekend and day today and I just now sat down to post and realized I didn't get my weight in on time. I sent it so she has it for the record.

Boy, there are so many places to watch people at DL and WDW. Probably any place as the afternoon and evening goes on -- I really do not like those people with tired, crying children yelling about how much money they've spent on their vacation and how everyone has to have a good time, *$&$ it! :rolleyes1

A few years ago I was at WDW with some DIS friends and we were having a great time in Epcot ( :drinking1 ;) ) We passed a family that was have a loud animated conversation in Spanish. After we went by I turned to my friends and said "Hey, do you know what he just said?" They looked at me like  :confused3since I never said anything about being able to speak Spanish (I don't!). With a totally serious look on my face I "translated': "I spent a lot of money on this trip!" :rotfl2: Trust me it was really funny at the time (especially with the :drinking1 )

Absolutely great PSA! I ended up with some major computer issues on my old laptop and it had to be reset several times. We have an external hard drive that we back up to.

Okay, I swear that I had more posts set up to quote that didn't show up. But I am too tired to go back. So here is some :cheer2: for all our Biggest Losers and to everyone for a great week.

Had a busy but nice weekend. We went to see Tim Hawkins in concert and it was a great time. He is a great Christian comedian and it is great to have a show you can take the family too. He has a lot of videos on you tube if you are interested in checking him out.

Got my breakfast and lunch packed and ready for tomorrow. I tried a new soup recipe yesterday and not sure I really like it, but I have a week's worth of it so I will be eating it. It isn't bad but it was a crock pot recipe and had you add converted/parboiled rice into it at the beginning. I was rather skeptical but figured I would follow the recipe and see how it turned out. As I figured would happen when I got home the rice was pretty much mush. Rethinking the recipe I am not really even sure why it was written for a crock pot-- it was just broth, some spices and seasonings and rice and canned beans-- 20 minutes of cooking was really all it needed. I am adding some leftover steak to it for tomorrow. It is pretty versatile so I will probably add some leftover ham or chicken later this week.

Have a pot roast all ready to go in the crock pot in the morning. I bought some brussel sprouts to try. So far I have hated them every time I tried them but I found a recipe on Pinterest that roasts them with garlic, and one with bacon-- adding bacon to anything has to make it edible, right???? DD has a band concert tomorrow night so another busy night.

Early bedtime tonight. I stayed up too late and have been tired all day. Tomorrow may be a bit crazy at work so I better be awake for it!

Definitely added muscle to my body yesterday. Scale was up and I didn't eat a lot even with all the workouts. Oh well. As long as the clothes still fit better I am happy!

Did the 2 20 min workouts this morning on the elliptical. WOrking and then tubing tonight, FINALLY!

Gotta make Ash's lunch!

TTFN :tigger:

Congrats to all the losers this week!
Wonder how Team Mickey can pull ahead in this race?
I didn't weigh this week - so depressed. Hoping this week will be an improvement.
Have kicked in on the work outs. did another routine from the Tyson chicken Strength Training program and well, today I HURT! But its a good hurt, because I sweated my tushie off yesterday at that gym (the tushie hurts too, what is up with that? LOL).
I need to get better about packing a lunch. I just don't think about it at 6:30am when I am leaving for work.....

Have a great day everyone - I gotta go refill my water bottle!!

WAY TO GO LTS on the meal planning and getting things ready the night before. After I read your post and was getting ready to take the kids to school, etc I was thinking about the meal planning you do. I seriously need to get on board with that! Do you have a method to that madness? To me it seems so hard to just figure out what we are eating for the next meal that imagining trying to plan for a solid month just freaks me out a little. I am a good planner (when it comes to Disney trips, etc) but meal planning has never been part of my daily stuff. Can you shed a little light, please, on how you make it seem so easy?

Also, Tigger813---congrats on the workouts so early in the morning! And TWO 20 min sessions on the elliptical! Holy cow! :worship: I was still wiping the sleep out of my eyes when i read that you had already done that! CONGRATS! You are amazing! Keep it up!

I am volunteering at our high school's career center today from 11-1, but checking in on this board has inspired/encouraged me to pack my running clothes and just change before I leave and get in a good run. I have to pick the kids up at 3:20 anyway, so I actually have a good amount of time to run. I don't know if I will use it all. I don't feel very well hydrated, but so what--- I can't let little fears like that stop me. I could do a run and then a walk to kill time until time to get the kids. It would certaily save gas- as we live about 20 miles from school. Normally I would get done volunteering at 1, drive home, and then turn around about 3:00 and come back. That makes no sense at all, especially when its costing me $100 to fill up my SUV. Gas prices are CRAZY!!! So, if I can plan how to do my workouts and save gas- WIN, WIN!

Have a great OP day, Team Mickey! Thinking of you all! Weigh in day is only 3 days from today! I am going to get in all my water and eat OP! I said it for accountability!

Good morning losers! Today is my first day off in a week and I'm going to Animal Kingdom for a while. Then tonight I have plans with a friend from work to watch Wishes from the Poly beach while eating a Dole Whip, then heading into MK to ride Haunted Mansion-apparently my friend has never caught Master Gracey hanging himself. :confused3

Today's question is kind of a random one. I know how good chicken is for you, but I don't really like it-mostly because I don't have any good recipes. So, in honor of that:

Please share your favorite chicken recipe.

Hmmm, I love the Mrs Dash Chicken Seasoning, so I use that and then sautee the chicken in a little olive oil and do a chicken wrap with cheese and lettuce - I am a simple girl (the parents add onions and peppers)

Favorite Disney show? that is a pretty wide question....can I say 2? Regular SHOW is Festival of the Lion King, Night show is Wishes!

Please share your favorite chicken recipe.

I just made this for the first time last week, and everyone loved it! In my WW world, the chicken is 5 PointsPlus/serving. It comes from my Six O'Clock Scramble subscription...an excellent investment for meal planning, btw!

Canadian Maple Chicken
25 minutes prep + cook time
4 servings

2 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
1 Tbsp. grainy Dijon mustard (use wheat/gluten-free if needed)
3/4 cup water
1/2 tsp. dried tarragon
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup flour
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
1 Tbsp. canola or vegetable oil
1 Tbsp. butter or margarine

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Meanwhile, whisk together the maple syrup, mustard, water, tarragon, thyme, cinnamon, and half the salt. Put the flour on a shallow plate or in a pie plate and coat both sides of the chicken with the flour, shaking off the excess.

Heat a large heavy skillet over medium to medium-high heat. When it is hot, add the oil and butter, and when the butter melts and starts to bubble, add the chicken and season it with a dash of salt. Cook it for about 3 minutes per side (seasoning the second side with the a little salt after flipping it) until it is lightly browned on the outsides. Transfer the chicken to an 8 x 8-inch baking dish.

Add 1 Tbsp. of flour (use some of the flour that you used to coat the chicken) to the skillet to absorb any remaining juices, and slowly add the maple syrup mixture, whisking it into the flour to avoid lumps. Simmer it for 1 - 2 minutes until it thickens. Pour it over the chicken, flip the chicken to coat it, and put it in the oven. Bake it for 10 minutes or until the thickest breast is cooked through (I used three larger chicken breasts and upped the cook time to 15 minutes - just check the temperature at 10 minutes - you want it to be 165F). Remove it from the oven and serve it immediately, refrigerate it or up to 3 days, or freeze it for up to 3 months.

YUM. :)

DQOTD: What is your favorite Disney World/Disneyland show?
I love the Finding Nemo musical! I'm also completely biased - the show was written by a friend of mine from college and his wife. He's also the guy behind Avenue Q and Book of Mormon (along with the South Park guys), and he and his wife also did the music for the new Winnie the Pooh movie. Super talented! So yes, I have a bias. If I put that one aside, I think I'd go with Festival of the Lion King, Flights of Wonder (if you haven't seen it, it's wonderful!), and Beauty & the Beast. And nothing beats Wishes, but I got to see World of Color last summer and thought it was pretty awesome, too! :)

Please share your favorite chicken recipe.

DQOTD: What is your favorite Disney World/Disneyland show?

My new favorite chicken recipe from the skinnytaste website:

Spaghetti with Sauteed Chicken and Grape Tomatoes

Servings: 4 • Serving Size: 1 1/2 cups • Calories: 329.7 • Fat: 6.8 g • Carb: 48.3 g • Fiber: 7.2 g • Protein: 25.0 g

Ingredients:

2 skinless chicken breast halves, diced in 1 inch cubes
cooking spray
1/2 tsp each of dried oregano and dries basil
kosher salt and fresh pepper
8 oz spaghetti (high fiber or low carb) I used Ronzoni Smart Taste
2 cups grape tomatoes, halved
6 cloves garlic, smashed and coarsely chopped
4 tsp extra virgin olive oil
4 tbsp chopped fresh basil
Directions:

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil.

Season chicken generously with salt, pepper, oregano and basil.
Heat a large skillet on high heat. When hot, spray with oil and add chicken.
Cook about 3-4 minutes, until no longer pink.
Remove chicken and set aside.

Add pasta and cook according to package directions.
Reserve about 1/2 cup pasta water before draining.

While pasta cooks,
add olive oil to skillet on high heat.
Add garlic and
sauté until golden brown (do not burn).
Add tomatoes, salt and pepper and reduce heat to medium-low.
Sauté about 4-5 minutes. When pasta is drained,
add pasta to tomatoes and
toss well. If pasta seems too dry,
add some of the reserved pasta water.
Add fresh basil and chicken and
toss well.
Serveand top with good grated cheese.

Favorite Disney show: Wishes! A close second, The Lion King

Thanks, Melinda! I find that if I get up early and work out I feel ready to go for the rest of the day. If I skip my morning workout I find it hard to squeeze it in later as I make excuses the rest of the day. I hope to do another elliptical workout after I pick up Izzie and before we go to dancing and tubing tonight. Gotta eat before we go since we won't be home until the girls bedtime. Very excited to go tonight and will probably be satisfied if I only get to go down the hill once or twice.

Gotta do a few things before heading out this afternoon.

TTFN :tigger:

Woohoo!! I ran/walked 6.22 miles in 110 minutes. I hurt like all get out the first 2 miles and really really wanted to quit. My calves were wicked tight, but I really wanted to do 4 miles. So I talked myself into just 3, started to feel better so I went for 4, felt great and wanted to see if I could do a 10K. Once my legs loosened up and I got into a rhythm it went pretty well.
I'm by no means fast, my walk was 3.0 mph and my run was 4.0 mph, but it seems that my endurance is getting better. Hopefully some day I can maintain my runs for longer but I did get in 1-4min run and 3 or 4-3min runs.

Hello TEAM MICKEY!

A big, BL congratulations to all our superstars, and especially to our Biggest Loser this week, Nancy! :cool1:

Tracey, I think you have your exercise mojo back! :thumbsup2

Jeff Galloway just posted an article from the NY Times this week about the importance of getting some activity every single day. Here is a link http://networkedblogs.com/uM1CO

With a totally serious look on my face I "translated': "I spent a lot of money on this trip!" :rotfl2: Trust me it was really funny at the time (especially with the :drinking1 )

:lmao:

Roasting brussel sprouts seems to make them fairly tasty although I have to confess I am not a big fan. DH loves them though and calls them "Barbie doll cabbages." ;)

Lara, actually we are neck and neck with Team Donald. One team wins one week and the other the next week. They've lost more pounds but I think our percentage is higher. In true BL fashion we will be merging the teams in a bit more than two weeks. We really only do teams at the beginning of the spring challenge because it is too much with a mega-thread. I for one am looking forward to the merge. :goodvibes

Melinda, way to get a run in today and save some gas, too. :cool1:

Good morning losers! Today is my first day off in a week and I'm going to Animal Kingdom for a while. Then tonight I have plans with a friend from work to watch Wishes from the Poly beach while eating a Dole Whip, then heading into MK to ride Haunted Mansion-apparently my friend has never caught Master Gracey hanging himself. :confused3

Please share your favorite chicken recipe.

DQOTD: What is your favorite Disney World/Disneyland show?

Chicken, especially chicken breasts, are really easy and good for you, too. You can buy them in bulk on sale and freeze individual servings and take one out when you need it.

My favorite chicken breast recipe is tossed with a little olive oil, kosher salt and fines herbes and roasted in the oven at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes with some roasted veggies. Just be sure and start your veggies first and put the chicken in for the second half because they can get dried out. :goodvibes

The Wonderful World of Color at DCA or the DL Fantasmic are my favorite shows. I do love Wishes at WDW or as it is sometimes known at DL, Remember Dreams Come True. But truly the fireworks at Disneyland have a special place in my heart because I always had to come home when they were over at 9 p.m. during the summer when I was growing up. :hippie:

Liz, great recipe! :thumbsup2

fitgirl36, I loved your recipe, too. :goodvibes

I'm by no means fast, my walk was 3.0 mph and my run was 4.0 mph, but it seems that my endurance is getting better. Hopefully some day I can maintain my runs for longer but I did get in 1-4min run and 3 or 4-3min runs.

Great run, Buffy! :cool1: You might want to experiment with some shorter running intervals as well as the longer ones. I did the Tinker Bell using a 15 second/35 second interval. I have a tendency to really slow down as I go along if I don't use the shorter intervals but I can go for hours with those short intervals. Even Galloway uses 30 seconds/30 seconds, which is the same as 1 minute/1 minute in alot of his races.

Oh and another great calorie burn with the roller skating! :thumbsup2

I'm cleared for more activity now so I'm hoping to break into ONE-derland this week or the next at the latest. I'm so happy to be able to run now, even if it is only 5 second/55 second intervals. :dance3:

Have a great day all!

hi everyone! just wanted to pop in and take an e-bow for my first place win this week :cool1: i'm really proud of myself so far this challenge. i still have a way to go but making top 10 for the last couple of weeks has kept me motivated.

gretchen i'm really enjoying your blog. i could really go for another update! hint hint! :lmao: it's a good thing you're still hanging out here because if you're anything like me, it would be hard to say no to all the fabulous desserts at disney!

as far as chicken recipes, i'm pretty plain jane... on a baking sheet spread out drumsticks, cut up sweet potatoes, onions, and carrots that you coated in some olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic. bake for an hour or so at 400ish. so good.
