Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Thanks for coaching this past week Molli! I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you approach your surgery date and after it. Please keep us updated. You are such an inspiration! :)

If you use some sort of video game system to work out (Wii, XBox Kinect, etc), what's your favorite exercise game? If you don't use those, what's your favorite form of "non-traditional" exercise?

If you were able to be here for the leap day, would you have been like me, and avoided the Magic Kingdom completely, or been like my roommates, and spent the whole night there?

Hi, Gretchen - thanks for coaching this week! :)

QOTD 1 - I use our Wii occasionally - I have more stuff for it than I ever use consistently. :P I like the Just Dance games; my girls do, too, and that's something we can do together. I also like the regular Wii Fit and Fit Plus stuff as well as the Biggest Loser game. But it's been a while since I've used those. Jillian Michaels' Ripped in 30 has become my new best frenemy over the past couple of months, and that seems to be giving me excellent results!

QOTD 2 - If we were there with kids, we definitely would have avoided. Maybe stopped by and then left. If we were there without the girls, though, I could see making an all-nighter of it. Even if I just sat somewhere with a drink and people-watched, it would have been fun to be there at odd hours!

Does anyone have any advice as to where to purchase hand weights? I want to get two sets for at home so DD17 and I can work out together. I got the Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 and 30 Day Shred DVD's from Amazon, and need to get some hand weights. I would like to have 3's, 5's, 8's and 10's. Any suggestions?

I also bought mine at Target, and I really like them. You don't need super heavy ones for these DVDs - I've done almost the entire Ripped in 30 DVD on 3-pound and occasionally 5-pound weights. The reps really make you work that weight, and I've seen a huge difference in my arm muscles just from the lower weights. The ones at Target are nice and not expensive!

XO

I wanted to share my breakfast this morning with you.

1 set of 4 GF mini waffles (1/2 serving)
1.5 cups of diced apples
2 tsp of Splenda with fiber
1 tsp of cinnamon
1/8 cup of sugar-free syrup

myfitnesspal has this as 255 calories, 2 g fat, 176 sodium, and 14 g of fiber.

No protein, though, and I think the fiber should be more like 10 g.

With regards to Healthy Habits, this gives me 3 of 5 servings of fruits/veggies for the day and a point for eating something that makes me feel like I'm indulging. I really felt like I was eating something off of an iHop menu.

I am going to the grocery store today or tomorrow and I'd like to find some smaller apples so that it's more like 1 cup diced and then also have 8 oz. of milk with the meal. That will come out at about 275 calories, but still very much on plan.

We have Wii and I like the boxing. Great workout!! And I do the balance stuff, that helps me a lot. Other non traditional is we've gotten back into roller skating, tons of fun and a great workout as well.

MK - Not on your life!! We don't even go there Christmas day!!

I third Target!

Well- despite my best efforts all week I'm still up a pound. I just ordered a new scale off amazon-- Tanita-- measures body fat and water...so we'll see. It's kind of weird that I've been exactly the same weight every day this week, I've changed the batteries, then weighed myself on an old dial scale I have that said I was 138 so I don't know. Was so frustrated I had a piece of cherry pie-- can't lose weight anyway dang it!

Video Game System: I used the Wii a bunch at the beginning of the year. My favorite game was the Biggest Loser Challenge. Then we got the kinect and I used the Biggest Loser game with it. I like the one for the Kinect then the Wii. I like not having to hold onto a controller. Although the kinect at times can get on my nerves.

Leap Year at MK: We were there!!. We were there from around 1pm on the 29th til 2am on the 1st. We had dinner at Tony's around 830pm. The crowd came and went in spurts. Around 3pmish it was crowded. Then it died down around 6pm and got crowded again around midnight. Overall I was glad I went. :)

Latest Sparkpeople Blog:

FEBRUARY NUMBERS!!:

Exercise minutes: 1,048 minutes or 17 hours, 18 minutes

Mileage: 25.64 miles

Water consumption: 6 gallons or 856 ounces

Weight Loss: 3 pounds

I'll be back later to read a few pages. I need to get a few more things done. The bills are paid, my farms are taken care of (I'm a Farmville nut, my guilty pleasure), animals are fed and taken care of. I still need to unpack and do laundry. I also need to make a grocery list. My mom is leaving tomorrow night and I can't wait to get back to my normal routine. I've not done my Biggest Loser kinect game since she's been here. I think I'm going to restart my program and start fresh.

Oh and the best thing I learned today when I was checking my pedometer software: From the time I got my pedometer (November of last year) up until yesterday I've walked 97.4 miles! Now granted I know I've walked more then that because some days I forgot to put it on. However, just seeing that number down on paper made me so proud of myself.

Okay, now I'm really off to get stuff done!

THURSDAY QOTD -- What is your biggest guilty pleasure food item at WDW?

Mickey ice cream bars!! I get them every time I'm at Magic Kingdom.

My best friend asked why I would only get them there and no where else on property. I laughed and told her, "This is going to sound silly but for me its more magical to eat one at Magic Kingdom. I just feel like I get a huge dose of Disney when I'm sitting on Main Street USA eating a Mickey bar"

I use a Wii and I used to love the Wii Fit game, but since I started with Just Dance - I like that MUCH better and sweat a lot more using it.

If I were at WDW for Leap Day, I would have been with all those crazy marathon type people and did the Magic Kingdom from opening til close!

You know, I only like popcorn on Main street, or anywhere Magic Kingdom. But it is just not the same in any other park...it does lose a little Magic I guess.

Hi Gretchen, I have fun reading your blog!

QOTD: No systems here, and I don't do anything interesting or exciting for workouts. Just walking and running (plodding!). Don't know for sure, but I probably would have avoided MK.

Not a good weigh in, so will see what tomorrow brings. Probably nothing good because I've eaten a few too many reese's peanut butter mini cups!

Have a great weekend!

I am boring and either use a DVD, practice Tae Kwon Do (or go to a class) or just go for a walk. Occasionally I will use the kids Wii in which case Wii Fit or Just Dance are the games of choice but it's not very often.

I'm like you and would have avoided MK completely, I'm sure it was chaos.

Tae Kwon Do certainly isn't boring! And I hear MK was very chaotic-Epcot was dead yesterday, and apparently the number we had was just a bit more than MK had at 6am on 3/1.

Had two bad weeks (water heater busted leaking through DS ceiling, laptop busted then I snagged my thumb staking my sons bean sprout from school and got a DTaP shot, ouch!) but am finally back to where I was two weeks ago, with a clean house and about the same weight as at the beginning of all that drama. (a big deal, for me)
Grrr.
Just glad to be back on program.
QOTD:
I use wiifit to weigh myself but I prefer old fashioned "go for a run"
I like going nuts cleaning the house as fast as humanly possible and BodyFlow and mowing my lawn (push mower) for my non traditional exercise.
Id spend the night!
It's never happened before, who knows if it'd happen again?

Congratulations on not eating the stress! I also like cleaning-about once a week I binge clean everything in sight. What it BodyFlow?

Hi Gretchen! Thanks for coaching this week. Sounds like you have a busy schedule.

I have a Wii and the balance board and I use Wii Fit+ frequently. I like to do the Free Step. It isn't much of a calorie burn, but I am working on my stamina and it is helpful for that.

We always buy Park Hoppers so I might have went to MK around 9 PM. I probably would have assumed Epcot was pretty empty so started there and then went to MK. If it was as chaotic as I'm guessing it was, I would have left. I have a hunch I would have wanted to try going though. Stubborn me. ;)

I think I should get a Wii Fit if it helps with balance and stamina. Epcot was NOT empty on Wednesday at all. It seemed a lot of people came there before going to MK-the line for the monorail was hugely backed up around 9-10pm.

Jillian Michaels' Ripped in 30 has become my new best frenemy over the past couple of months, and that seems to be giving me excellent results!

We have Just Dance at my apartment, but I've never played it, just don't have the time or energy.

We have Wii and I like the boxing. Great workout!! And I do the balance stuff, that helps me a lot. Other non traditional is we've gotten back into roller skating, tons of fun and a great workout as well.

MK - Not on your life!! We don't even go there Christmas day!!

I have done the boxing thing, and I always seem to win even though I don't really understand it. Roller skating-how fun! LOL I don't think it was quite as crowded as Christmas.

I use a Wii and I used to love the Wii Fit game, but since I started with Just Dance - I like that MUCH better and sweat a lot more using it.

If I were at WDW for Leap Day, I would have been with all those crazy marathon type people and did the Magic Kingdom from opening til close!

Another one for Just Dance-will have to give it a try!

:thanks: Gretchen for coaching this week!!!

No problem! I'm not sure what the story is with your surgery, but I'm sending good thoughts your way! Totally understand the dust on the Wii. My mom bought ours in October 2009-I think she's used it maybe three times. I used it when I was home, but she wouldn't let me bring it to school, and I don't even use the one we've got at the apartment all that much.

The MK thing was "One More Disney Day", and both MK and Disneyland were open from 6am on 2/29 to 6am on 3/1 in honor of the extra day of the year.

Hi Gretchen, I have fun reading your blog!

QOTD: No systems here, and I don't do anything interesting or exciting for workouts. Just walking and running (plodding!). Don't know for sure, but I probably would have avoided MK.

I'm glad you like the blog! Walking and running are totally fine too!

To answer my own questions, I really enjoy Wii tennis and Zumba. We also have a game here called Toy Story Mania that is very similar to the ride (and no need to get up at 6:30am or wait 100 minutes to experience it!) which has extra opportunities for arm exercise.

I had several reasons for avoiding MK. I worked from 10:45am-7:30pm on 2/29, so by the time I got home I literally had to go to bed in order to get some sleep before waking up at 4:40am for my 6:45am shift. My roommates left just after I got home and I left long before they came home! Also, I've done nearly every attraction currently open in MK (only missing Country Bears, Aladdin's Magic Carpets, and the Treehouse), and I don't love it enough to go there for such a long period of time. Sure, they had fun character greetings...but with four hour waits!

QOTD 3/3 (Combo Regular and Disney):
We already discussed our favorite food to indulge in while at Disney, but what about our favorite healthy ones?

Mine is the Roasted Beet & Goat Cheese Salad at Sunshine Seasons. It's a salad, and has some different flavors that take some getting used to, but overall quite enjoyable.

Good morning TEAM MICKEY!

Gretchen, thanks for coaching this week! :flower3: I don't think we've ever had anyone coach us from WDW before! :cool2:

CC, love the HH this week. I'm in! Thanks to Molli and Pamela for the inspiration! :goodvibes

Liz, thanks for sharing the soup recipe. You might want to post it on our recipe thread, too.

I developed a very bad case of plantar faciitis when I used the Wii Fit when it first came out -- do not do that barefoot. :sad2: I really enjoy a class called NIA that is like a dance/aerobics type class and a good yoga class, although I haven't done either for way too long. Have to work on that this summer. :beach:

I've been at DL and MK on very crowded days. It is not so magical to me but I would have loved to have been at Epcot where it was quiet! :teeth:

Melinda, a big, BL congratulations on being down to an all time low for the challenge! :cool1: You are working hard and your efforts are showing! :yay:

Susan, it's your turn next! :flower3:

Kristina, great job on the miles. :thumbsup2

I have to confess that I don't worry too much about healthy foods when I am on vacation. Instead I make sure I get right back OP when I return. I love roasted vegetables but I have to admit that no matter who prepares them, beets taste like dirt to me. :rotfl2:

I am a maintainer this week. Which is a good thing because the way I've been behaving I could easily have been a gainer. I know what I need to do and I will do it. It's the journey, right? :hippie:

Have a great day all!

:thanks: everyone

QOTD -- i'm a bad WISHer on vaca too...but i do usually steer the fam to Columbia Habour House for a lunch that's more on track. and Gretchen that salad sounds heavenly!

omg...24 hrs open at MK!! woot! woot! but there is no way this gal is standing in line for 4 hours for character photos...holy cow!

i have forgotten to WI both yesterday and today...dulp!

I really like the Grilled Vegetable panini at Backlot Express in MGM (DHS). It is really good. DH and I usually split it because even though it's just veggies and thin bread, it's very filling.

:wave2:

Well, I have not worked 3 days in a row in over 16 years-- since I was pregnant with my first child. This week I worked Monday, Wed, Thurs, Fri and I am full time until the secretary comes back. We are adjusting pretty well but there is a lot that changes when I am not home all day. I think the cats are having the hardest time! But I am also finding that I really like it so I may be looking for a secretary/receptionist job next year. I would really like to find one in the school system since I do love the kids but with a lot of budget cuts coming up that may be difficult.

I need to do some cooking this weekend and make some soup and breakfast muffins for next week. I did really well this week and keeping on plan and taking all my food for the day. Of course every day there was something in the lounge-- donuts, cake and other goodies. So I completely avoided the lounge!

The biggest problem is that I can't really drink a lot of water. There is no bathroom in this office so I can't just run in and out quickly. The only options are the main office across the hall where they would notice I was in there every 30 mins or down the hall and that takes too long and I have to let someone know I am leaving the desk-- again, they would notice! I try to use the one down the hall just so I get a little bit of walking. I would love to be able to do a lap through the halls once an hour but that isn't possible. I do try to take the long way when I go to check the mail.

I need to find some "sitting at the desk" exercises I can do, especially for core strengthening. The only problem with trying to do something in my chair is that I sit by a huge window to the hall and the main office is directly across from me with the same huge window so they can see everything I am doing!:rotfl2: I would have to sneak it in when no one is looking! There is a conference room in the office so I can sneak in there for my lunch time if it isn't being used. If the window wasn't there I would probably try to do some WATP while others are out of the office or in a meeting and can't see me! Wonder if they would notice if I looked like I was pacing? :lmao:

:surfweb: I will be. If you think about it ask Lily to pop over here and just post an update for us. Will be thinking of you.

QOTD 3/3 (Combo Regular and Disney):
We already discussed our favorite food to indulge in while at Disney, but what about our favorite healthy ones?
:scratchin:scratchin:scratchin Nope. I've got nothing! While I might order a salad or skip the fries or something I really don't worry too much about healthy while I am there. I am glad they offer carrots and grapes as sides and I will get those but they aren't a "favorite", just a better alternative.

Off to do some cooking! Everyone have a great ON PLAN weekend!:cheer2:

HI all,

Just got home from work. Been a busy day here. Izzie had a birthday party and while she did that the rest of us returned 8 bags of cans and bottles to the liquor store. Then we paid a visit to Trader Joe's and Market Basket. Brian's going to make some calzones tomorrow so we have easy food for the week. I put a pulled pork in the crock pot this morning so that's dinner. I think I might make mine into pizzas.

Down 1.2 from last week. I got up and did 45 minutes on the elliptical and then gave 2 45 minute massages. I plan on doing the 30 Day Shred later. My thighs are really sore but I know I need to keep it up. I need to eat something before I work out so I don't pass out. I got really dizzy yesterday after doing it. I hadn't eaten much before that so I learned my lesson.

PLanning on watching Project Runway shortly while we eat. Ash's BFF is supposed to spend the night tonight and we should then be going to their house tomorrow afternoon to make some meal plans for out trip.

Time to start dinner since I'm starving. I'm really focused. I bought some Mike's Light Hard Lemonade. It's only 98 calories per bottle. Just hope they taste good!

TTFN :tigger:

QOTD: Not sure I can think of something that I like at Disney that's healthy! When we stayed at AKV a few years back I ate a lot of grilled chicken caesar salads. They were certainly tasty!

My favorite Disney food is the fish and chips at the CS in England and I love the Potstickers at the CS in China!

Hello my favorite bunch of losers on the planet! We shall all lose this week!!!

My day has been crazy hectic but I wanted to stop in and say hello to you all and just let you know what a motivation this thread is! And when I pop on I see that Lisahh0711 has given me a shout out, and girl, that is motivating! To know that at least one other person, at least, on this planet knows how hard this journey is, that is a total kick in the pants for me! So, thank you! And thank you to everyone who lurks, reads, posts, or dares to try this challenge. I love all of you!

Busy day of Speech, Basketball playoffs, Church singing practice for DD15, Choir concert rehearsal, choir concert dinner/concert, and more. Good thing I have been so busy all I've had to eat today is a small vanilla cone at DQ after DD12's Basketball team won their first playoff game! Woo hoo! And only 4 points! I am having the vegeterian lasagna tonight at the concert dinner, so I'm covered there.

Also another :woohoo: moment for me: with my weigh in this week (184.2 lbs) which I still have to send to dvccruiser76--sorry!-- I am in a new weight category for Weight Watchers and I now have 27 points daily instead of 28, and when this challenge began January 1 I had 29 points! I am definitely moving in the right direction!!!
