Team Hakuna Matata; Masters of the Holidays!

Good moning guys.

Yes I overslept again. Since I started doing this full weight routine I have been more tired in the evening and over sleeping. I wonder if there is a connection? I usually don't set the alarm but wake up between 5 and 6am. I wonder if it's because my body is repairing the damage caused by the weight training? I have been making sure to get plenty of protein.

It's another frigid morning here so it will be treadmill for us followed by the weights and then off to work for me.

How is everyone today?

Hi everyone! Got out last night and ran 3 miles. I meant to go for 4 but DF's mom was taking us out for dinner and I didn't want to make it a late dinner. I got a chance to run in my new Kayano 14s which are really comfy! And I'm back out again tonight for a 35 minute tempo run ... I'm not sure I've exactly figured out how to do one properly. I figure I'll probably be doing anywhere from 3-3.5 miles.

Oh, I'm also down another 1.8 pounds! Yay!!

Dave - I feel the same way after training on Mondays. I'm usually really tired Monday nights and sore on Tuesdays. I think weight training uses up a lot more energy than what we think.

Good Morning folks, finally got caught up after not getting to the boards yesterday!

Well, I survived my long walk! It was actually 2 walks, one loop of 11 miles with the dogs, then a short stop at home to use bathroom, drop off tired dogs, eat a Kashi bar, and refill my water bottle, then out for a 7 mile loop. The actual milage was 18.53 miles, pace was 16:35 – not fast enough to beat the sweepers, but I was not pushing the speed, just walking at a comfortable pace, which started at a decent speed of about 15:30, but in the last few miles, against a 25-30 mph headwind, slowed down to 17 min/miles. At the end, all that hurt was the bottoms of my feet! I was very tired at the end – but I am hoping to get a couple more long walks in before Jan, and with Lisa’s leg routine, and getting back to my regular 6 mile walks that I have neglected since we got back from TOT, I should be in good shape for the Marathon! Dave – still do not think that I can keep up with you for whole 26 miles.

We have put up a bird feeder next to the bird bath, and the finches are just flocking to it, it is right outside the window next to the computer, so I get to watch the birds while trying to keep up on the boards! The only problem is that I cannot make any sudden moves, or all the birds spook and fly off. I am literally no more than 4 feet from the bird feeder!

Jennifer – Congrats on the job!

We are somewhat lucky here that the snow usually does not stay on the roads for long, so the roads are usually clear, what we do have to deal with is wind, it blows constantly in the winter. But, I have dogs to walk, so I will still get outside walks in even in winter! Yaktraks are great when there is ice on the ground!

Have a great day everyone!

All this talk of winter is even making me cold here in the game room. We are freezing here with early temps in the 20s and highs in the 40s. Brrrrrrr.

It looks like this winter will be a chilly one for everyone, it will be hard to keep our motivation level high without support from each other.

Chillin Panda:hippie:

Miranda and I had the brilliant idea to do 5 this morning before we went to the funeral. She came over at 7:15 ready to go. I was still in my PJ's having coffee. I knew it was cold but ignorance is bliss, we went out after dressing somewhat warm. Well it was darn cold, that whole winter hat thing I discussed a few days ago, well, I should have worn it instead of the baseball cap.

We were pretty darn cold from the shins to the waist. I'll have to layer better. I did buy a warm shirt from Nike and it is GREAT for days like today but my pants weren't quite thick enough and the wind was howling. It was 26 with a wind chill of 15.

The service for my FIL was nice. He had been in the Navy and two servicemen in full dress uniform came in to do the flag ceremony. It was quite moving and of course they played taps. All was well until they presented my MIL with the flag and thanked the family for his years of service. After we were done they were standing there so straight and handsome, I walked up to them and shook their hands thanking them for the beautiful service. Everyone was quite surprised. Mark's BIL was in the Gulf War and had seen many ceremony's but he never saw anything like that. He too was moved to tears.

Well it's been a busy day and it's back to work tomorrow so I'll sign off for now.

Dave, I remember in the first Bourne Identity books I read where he said - Sleep -it's a weapon. Use it, the body knows what it needs and takes it.

Hi everyone,

First, :cool1: CONGRATULATIONS JENNIFER!! Glad to hear you got the job!

Margie, Stay warm.

Dave, stay cool! :hippie: LOL

Denise, I am certain that you would have succeeded in spite of the team, but the team is just one more reason to motivate! Afterall, you could have dropped out as many have.

Lynn and Scott, Stay warm, too!!!

Vickie, Have I mentioned that you sweet voice is one I look forward to hearing? Even if I can't hear it and must only read it.

Sue! Great job on the Christmas list! I have been wrapping for quite a while as well. I wasn't about to try and get out with the shopping mayhem with my shoulder and did all my shopping on line. 95% of it was done before November 1!

I hate to admit this, but this just isn't my year! I have bronchitis, now. I haven't had bronchitis in almost 10 years! I am so sick of being sick and hurt and everything I could just scream in total frustration. But at least I am starting to breathe again. Hopefully soon, I will be back to doing some miles. Geeze, I feel like such a wimp! Whining now over.

Y'all do great things, today! Connie

Good Morning Folks!

It has turned cold here, after mid 60’s yesterday, high today will be 30 degrees, with freezing fog, freezing drizzle and snow – sounds beautiful doesn’t it? I took yesterday off from walking after my 18 miles the day before, but I did do some Pilates exercises and Lisa’s leg routine. My knees have not bothered me for 3 days now! Maybe that is what happens when you go see a Doc, then get knee braces, and get Physical Therapy appts.

PD to all who are suffering colds or just the cold weather!

Scott told me last night that he past several houses with Christmas lights on already, he is now hot to trot to get our Christmas stuff out, it is supposed to be nice this weekend, so I guess we will be working on Christmas lights!

Have a great day everyone!

Not much of import to report today! I am embarrassed to say that I didn't make it out for my run yesterday. There was a lot of snow by the time I made it back home. I had the clothes but I didn't think my running shoes would make it through the snow. So I'm going to head to a running store at lunch and see how I can winterize my shoes - pick up some Yak Traks :) I guess I was just optimistic that the snow would melt last night.

Lynn - Glad to hear your knee is doing well!! I've found my PT to be a tremendous help in my running pain free. Got a question for you - what's the best way to protect your face from the cold/wind? I don't really want to wear a ski mask... or is that the only way? It's mostly my cheeks that freeze and then I have a hard time talking afterwards (insert joke).

Connie - Btw, you are so sweet - you just made my day :goodvibes I hope you feel better soon! My favourite drink when I have a sore throat is hot water, honey and crushed lemon wedges. It has Vitamin C and the honey feels good on a scratchy throat.

Scott - How's the Wii working?

Denise - Good for you and Miranda getting out and doing 5 miles! I am not a morning person at all.

Back to work for me - chat later everyone! Stay warm!

Good Morning Team!

Winter has arrived in Southern Ontario. Snowy run last night. Extra workout for the legs.

Vicky, Are you still running in Whitby on Sunday? Not sure how much of the 10k is along the waterfront trail. Just an fyi. The town does not
maintain the trail over the winter. Last year's 10 miler was very icy in places.

Connie, Take care of yourself & get well soon.

Jen, Congrats on the new job!

Lynn, Gald to hear your knees are doing well. Many houses in the neighbourhood have lights on already. Should be a pretty run tonight with all the snow we received. It seems brighter at night & the run more enjoyable. Haven't seen my first tree though.

One more day til an action packed weekend. Our city's Santa Claus parade is Sat. night. All the floats are decorated with lights. I'd like to see Bolt if we have time in between running.
Keep warm and train safe.....Sue

Have not had much time for the Wii lots o work, long drives and now catching up on paper.

Jennifer, Congrats on the Job.

Hit the TM for a fast 1.5 miles this morn , I really need to figure out the pre programed thingies.

Wine tasting fundraiser this Fri Night should be fun.

KEWL!!!! LYNN SAYS WE CAN PUT UP CHRISTMAS LIGHTS THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!

Connie - I feel for you. I"m sure it's depressing at times but in the end, you'll be better and without pain. It's a tough time of year, we're starting to stay inside, stale air and germs are spreading. Hope you feel better soon.

Lynn, I can attest to the PT, it works and when I fluff off and don't work my body as it should, well then I just end up paying for it. Hope you have much success with the Christmas decorating. I have my 20 min tree. Bring it up from the basement, clear off the window sill, plug in the tree. DONE!

I feed off all the decorations at WDW when we're there the week after Thanksgiving. That's my Christmas. We usually go with with the kids but since their coming for the 1/2 I can't swing both this year. Too costly.

After freezing yesterday, Miranda went to Marshalls and bought some winter workout clothes. I layered up and off we went tonight to do our new route, all sidewalks, busy streets and minor lighting. We had our flashing lights attached to our reflective vests. We were a SIGHT. We were going to take a picture of us all done up with our knit hats and vests but decided against it, hey we do have our pride. I brought her to one of my new hills and she wasn't happy, her butt hurt when she was done that one and we decided to stop at the top and stretch. Thankfully the wind had died down so the 30 degrees was really 30 not 15 like yesterday.

Scrambled eggs, toast and bacon for supper it was yummy and easy to make. So now I crash in front of the TV for a while and then off to bed.

Have a good night

denise

We don't put up a tree either, with 2 cats and a puppy as well as a lab that likes to gently remove the balls and stomp them, it wouldn't last.

Connie feel better.

Everyone have a restful evening.

:wave2: TEAM!

Tis winter in Kazoo...but I am thankful we did not get the lake effect snow this afternoon :goodvibes

Say What - NO Christmas Trees - :confused3 I love the Christmas decorations. I start Thanksgiving Day. 3 huge wreaths on the front of the house, a tree in every room, one on the 10' platform in the entry way, and one in the gazebo. I do have to skip the one in the living room where the little guys play this year but still will have several to stay in the spirit :cloud9:

Lots in our neighborhood all ready have their decorations up too.

Connie - :grouphug: Never Fear you will come back stronger than ever!

Lynn - PTL you have found the right therapy to help your knees!

Hagen is sleeping over again tonight but was still able to make it to the gym.

:hippie: So Agree -
It looks like this winter will be a chilly one for everyone, it will be hard to keep our motivation level high without support from each other.

Cold windy and foggy morn here, in the office working in hopes that the day will clear and warm up and the wind clam down.

Trees and pets, Malamute tails of perpetual motion, only soft ornaments on the bottom three feet of the tree.

Actually will wait till Turkey day weekend. for Christmas ornaments.

Good morning!

No tree for us this year. I just don't have the will to mess with it. I will put up a christmas wreath though and My granddaughter and I will make a Christmas centerpiece for the table. We won't be spending Christmas here, anyway.

I want to take a tour and see everyone else's Christmas things, though!!! :)

Thanks for all the well wishes. I am feeling better. The anitbiotics are starting to work!

I did go to the Ortho yesterday. He was absolutely giddy with my progress. Now, I can add more bar work and bicep curls! He doesn't seem to think that I need PT because I do so well on my own! How cool is that?

Stay warm, LIFE IS GOOD! --Caonnie

I have to confess that in the true redneck tradition we have had a christmas wreath on the back door for years. It all started when a bird built a nest in it and we didn't want to disturb the babies. Now every year we have baby birds raised in our perpetual christmas wreath and bird nursery. We think that's ok, yep we are country as a corn field.

Country Panda:hippie:

Cold Friday morning greetings from the north. With the wind I think it's about 5 degrees. BRRR. Procrastinating work. Doing this instead.:surfweb:

Had a great run last night. I love the cold night air. The sky was so clear. It's so peacefull with only the sound of me huffing & puffing. Most of the streets were in pretty good shape with only a little ice in some spots. Lots of Christmas lights on & I saw a few houses with their trees up already. I really prefer a real tree but we gave in last year & now are fake tree owners. Might to some window decorating on the weekend. The tree doesn't go up until after the 1st of Dec.

Long run on Sat. & short recovery run on Sun. might add in a pilates class so I can take Mon. night off.

Have a great weekend & happy training.....Sue

It certainly is a chilly morning here even though the sun is shining. I went out for a 3.5 mile run last night. I picked up some Yaktrax but didn't seem to need them because there wasn't much snow on the sidewalks. They are a little weird to run on. Nearly got mowed down at a four way stop by some guy who hadn't bothered to clean the snow from his car - he only used his wipers to clear a small section from his windshield. I yelled at him but who knows if he got the message.

Sue - For now I still plan to do the race on Sunday. I will probably go and check out the trails quickly on Saturday when I go for the packet pick up. Kim's already told me that it will be plenty cold with the wind coming off the lake.

Dave - That's a really cute story about the wreath and baby birds :)

Connie - We have a fake tree at home but it always seems like so much work to put up. Actually, no. They just seem like a lot of work to take down and put away in January  Glad to hear that you're feeling better and making progress too! Woo-hoo!!

That's all for now! Have a great weekend everyone :)

One of our store managers just found out yesterday that her dad is dying of liver failure and so had to take off to be with him, our general manager is on vacation to Tenn to keep us safe fom Bambi. So I, as the only manager left for a 7 day a week store will be working everyday thru next week. So I might not be around much. I still love y'all though.

The hard part is I haven't seen Erica since 9 am yesterday morning and I won't see her till about 9 am tomorrow morning. That's to long to go withut a hug from my lady.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Tired Panda:hippie:

Yep Dave I agree with ya, hours are nice and the OT is good, but the older I get I want the time off every no and then. 64 hours for me last week.

Got up no wind, 24 degrees, and dark, Watched TV news had breakfast, Oatmeal and toast, sun came up, out for a run, felt like crud, too much breakfast in the tummy, so walked with Lynn to let things settle, Note to self, don't have a belly full of Oatmeal before ya work out, normally I workout on an emply or very near empty stomach,

Weather seems to be cooperating and we might get some of the Christmas lights up, good thing there is a space shuttle up so they can see our lights when we turn them on.

Have agreat day kids, Will order the kilt later tonight.

Wind at 15 MPH with gusts, we will see how it is on a ladder.
