Teachers: What names are you sick of?

I just looked at my above post and aaw all my spelling errors so I guess I am adding to the fun. of trying to figure out what I was trying to say.

I have a Sarah monica named after a beloved Aunt. there are a millon Sarah's her age.

I have a kellen Benjiman. Named after a cousin kelly who was killed when we were younger. benjiman, Not benjamin. cause I was under pressurre and just picked 1 spelling.
A preschool teacher repeatedly when she filled out his forms would spell Benjiman. Be -Jammin.
his preschool diploma says kellen Be-Jammin.
just this weekend at teh boston museum of Science we encounterd another kellen. about 3 yrs old. So I think it's catching on! usually spelled kellan though.

next 2
Aidan patrick. I wish I named him Patrick Aidan as he is always now and forever Aidan B. there a so many of them now!

his twin also a Boy. Regan Christopher' pronounced RE-GAN (not Raegen.) Christopher because my husband got one choice and that was it.

I have not met another boy Regan, saw one once when I preggers with my twins while on Main street in Magic kingdom.. and there was a very!!!! very devilish boy about 8 years old. and the dad was in front of the sweet shop yelling at him.
Anyway.....
I had told my brother's I was naming one Regan and they were pretty vocal that is was not a real name. So got a real kick out of actually seeing one in the flesh while with my brothers. I am pretty sure the Dad thought I was nuts.. when I blurted out to My brother. SEE it is a real Name!

When we had DD 14 we named her Melanie (How many of those do you know?)

Then when DD11 was born we thought hard to get a good not popular name so we picked Samantha. DUH!!! I wasn't home from the hospital one day and the local newspaper called wanting a picture of DD11 because they where doing an article on popular baby names and guess what Samantha was in the top 10. :rotfl2: .

I have a Melanie and a Samantha, too. My oldest is Caitlin; her name was 50th on the top 100 so I thought I was safe....not too weird, not too popular. Boy was I wrong. There were at least 10 in gymnastics and that didn't count all the Katies, Kaylees, Kaylens, etc. that sound similar.

So with Samantha I picked on down the list; I think her name was around 75 on the top 100 that year. Now she's got at least three in her grade.

With my youngest, I just picked what I liked.....and made sure it *wasn't anywhere* on the list. :rotfl2:

I saw where someone mentioned Zaks earlier. My dd just mentioned today that she has 10 diff Zak's/Zach's phone numbers on her phone. And she seems to collect them; she's dated three of them so far. :rotfl2:

Kids rarely got annoyed by a mispronounced name, they were used to it. I only know one person now who gets annoyed by a mispronounced name. People mispronounce my name all the time and I could care less. I am actually a Laura. I can be : Lara, Lauren, Laurie, Lucy... anything but Laura somedays. It used to bug me in high school when we had a bunch of Lauren's around because my name was the only different one. Now I could care less.

The parents would get miffed. Especially if someone mentioned the name was spelled wrong. Of course it is NOT spelled wrong, that is the legal spelling of the kids name, the way they chose to spell it, it is NOT wrong. (I see their point there)

Some names I just had no clue how to pronounce at first. Saiyja? Galaydreiel?
My DD is starting to get really mad when people mispronounce her name. Her name is Kiley.. pronounced just as it sounds with a long I.. many spell it Kylie and that gets her mad too.. she is 16. When it's mispronounced, they say Keiley.. When I named her, there weren't any Kiley's.. now it is starting to become more popular... but still not that much.
I don't mind much when her name is spelled wrong on Christmas cards, but I do get upset when things come home from school and they have it wrong...:confused3 You would think they would get it right.. or at least they should..

I couldn't resist posting this here!

I'm sick of names that are intentionally misspelled to be unique. Misspelling a name only makes it annoying. I don't mind unusual names or common names. Just spell it the normal way.

I like interesting names but I am not fond of wacky spellings. I went to summer camp with a Rhobynne (Robin)

Judge Judy recently had a girl on named Emigh. I spent FOREVER trying to figure it out, and finally the defendant said the plaintiff's name. It's pronounced "Amy." (highlight to see)

That's just nuts. I would've never come up with what was intended from the spelling.

cafeteria, her name was spelled "Sarah" on the plaque. And finally her name was spelled wrong on her DIPLOMA. She was really upset about the diploma, did not understand how they messed it up because she had even talked to the teacher in charge of gathering information for graduation. Obviously a lot of people tried to call her "say-rah" or "si-ra" and she had to correct them.

This reminds me of a funny story I love to tell about my friend's high school graduation. His last name is "Lambe" but it is pronounced "Lamb", like the animal. People say it wrong all the time ("Lamby") so he thought he would help the person reading the names by writing his name like this on his namecard:
JOHN DOE LAMBE (SILENT E)
Well the person reading the card didn't understand, so when my friend was walking up to get his diploma, we all heard "JOHN DOE SILENTE!" :lmao:

I have to tell this story re: names. When I was pregnant and in the waiting room at the OB's office, a woman came out and saw her friend also in the waiting room. The first woman had a new baby in a carrier and the friend oohed and ahhed over it and asked his name.

The woman took a deep breath (no kidding) and rattled off a long string of sounds that I guess was a first and two middle names, ending with Jones, the last name. The friend responded: "Girl! That's a good one!" :lmao:

I have had a Brandy Alexander. Every time I called her, I got an urge to go to Happy Hour!

I knew a Staci Stacy.

The worst name I ever had was a Michael Hunt. I swear that is true. He went by Mike. I would never call him with his first and last name. Why would your parents do that??????:confused3

My second son...Mike Tison. 24 years ago that was a very unknown name. He says it is good for real estate, but that is mucked up right now, so he is hanging on to his license until "things get better". Oh, and his car plates...Miki T. He hated :crazy2: his nickname of Mickey after K, but goes and uses it at times now:sad2:

My brother's name is Michael Jackson. He was born in 1968, which is 1 year before MJ debuted with the Jackson 5, so he was NOT named after MJ. He absolutely hated his name, as he got teased, especially after the MJ incident when his hair caught on fire.

I went to school with a boy named Charles Fountain Leake IV! You would think after having to live with that name, noone would want to pass it on.

Marsha

I'm Kathryn but that's an unusual spelling...then you've got all the nicknames too...

Kathryn
Cathryn
Katherine
Catherine
Catharine
Katharine
Kat
Cat
Katy
Caty
Catie
Katie
Kathie
Cathie
Cathy
Kathy
Cath
Kath

:headache:

Kathleen here and yeah, the name changes every one tries to do. It is an easy name, I promise. I do go by Kathy, especially after my 4th grade teacher said every one had to go by thier given names, no nick names in her class. Then she called me Kath-a-lena. Umm... hello!

There aren't as many Kathy's now as before, when there were 3-4 in all my classes in elementary school. Though I guess that dates me, cause it was one of the most popular name when I was born.

And no, the chatty Cathie doll was not named after me, though there are times when I fit the name perfectly!

And, as my 2nd job is a lifguard, one of the college kids, who seem to be big into nicknames, started calling me "Mamma Kat". Guess I fit the role for her. :confused3 Anyway Kat has stuck, and that's ok to~:goodvibes

Ok, so my kids aren't on the list either and that is kinda a surprise.

1st son is named after his dad. Charles Randolph. Dad is Randy. He hated Charlie and I didn't like Chuck (sound like :crazy2:) So he became Chip. #2, Mike Tison. hmmm... not until he was in 2nd grade did that become a problem. But his dad wanted to name him "Mickey" I fought and won for Michael and he became Mike. OF course the Rescue Rangers were popular then some MIL wnated me to name him Dale. Cute at the time but I could see the neighbors looking for the dancers when I called them in for dinner!:rotfl2:

Flash forward a # of years and I had remarried. son #3 is Jeffery cause he isn't a "ray"! He is Jeffers at home and Jeff everywhere else. #4 was going to be Cierra, which I found out means "Dark Mountian". Yeah, my blonde, pale skin daughter didn't fit that. She became Krista instead, with JoyceAnn for the middle, (grandmothers middle names and now her's). I can't find a thing with her name on it either, though it is a normal, common name.

The younger kids have had some unusual names in thier classes. Precious, Original (boy), Samhey (boy and pronounced Sammy), Rhandi (girl, named after her dad).
:upsidedow

OK, now you may choose to believe me on this or not, but coming from the deepest reaches of my heart, I swear this is true. I know someone named Ivona Berger. Some parents are just so cruel.:sad2:

I had a friend in high school named Benjamin Dover. Seriously. I'll let you think about it for a minute.

A friend of ours is Kandy Graham. She married into the last name, though. I think I would have kept my maiden name. :rotfl2:
