TCD is just back from the Fort with Big news to report!

I'm glad I have a cart and don't need to go to that check in. I triple dog dare anyone to use that bridge if MrsGus' mom ever get's put in the 1000 loop. Grandma gives you one chance to pay for half the site if you wanna cut thru. After that flip flops start flying. Moral of the story is, if you see Grandma cut thru a different site. I wouldn't think that's a problem if there's an empty site but cutting thru an occupied site is pretty rude IMO.

TCD, maybe you could talk management to get a red box up there like the movie rental folks have to rent carts lol.

I will back Donnie up on the Grandma statement, you DO NOT want to mess with that woman. God help you if you cut through her site.

You know, I have to say you got me. I looked at it and my first thought was 'Photoshop', but your photo editing skills are on par with your ability to take some awesome photos and tell a story and I believed. So, now I have to ask myself, did his kids really meet those Disney celebs? What about all those wonderful photos of things the rest of us never noticed???? Hmmmmmm???

Wow, Tony, I am surprised that I got you on that one. Truth is, I don't even have photoshop. I just swapped a couple of the letters around on Paint. Luckily, I had the letters that I needed to work with.

Now, since I am confessing, I have to let you know that the River Country water tower is still there. I just edited it out of my photo.

Ha!

I didn't get you again, did I?

Hey, with me she don't even like me pulling up to the site at all, much less cut thru.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Cause she knows your planning shenanigans.

I have got to meet this granny. Of course, since I am married to Mrs. TCD, I am sure that I can handle a little old granny, but you never know.

Anyone still reading along?

Well, I have another installment and some more photos.

In my last update, I left off with us picking up the golf cart on New Year's Day.

This opens up our ability to explore the Fort.

The girls take the cart for a spin. I tell them to snap photos of anything interesting.

They came back with this photo from the 1600 loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008395.jpg

These are the folks whom Shan dubbed the overachievers. There has been some suggestion that they read the Disboards. They were set up in the 1600 loop from before Thanksgiving, and here they still were on New Years Day. Overachievers, I salute you! Good job on the decorations. I hope to see you at the Fort next year.

The DD's also came back with this photo from the 300 loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008394.jpg

So, what is this all about? An RV and a pop-up on one site? And, that isn't a real North Carolina flag, is it? Shan-man?

These folks piqued my interest. So, I went back for another look:

They were flying a US flag and a NC flag from the back of the RV:

ThanksgivingFW2008406.jpg

And here are some more shots from the front of the site:

ThanksgivingFW2008521.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008522.jpg

While we are on the subject, the NC campers were not the only RV pop-up combo on this trip, here is another such set up on the 500 loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008404.jpg

I got the idea from somewhere that only one camping unit was allowed on each site, but I have seen this done on a few occasions recently. Perhaps that was never a rule, or the rules have changed, or this is yet anther rule that is not being enforced?

If an RV and pop-up can share a site, then folks might want to start offering to sub-let space on their sites during busy times.

When the girls got back with the cart, I took it out for a spin to see if I could find anything interesting.

I saw these two gentlemen strolling down Fort Wilderness Trail:

ThanksgivingFW2008398.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008399.jpg

I didn't stop them to ask what they were up to, so you will have to use your imaginations. :confused3

This photo was taken on the 400 loop. These folks had a neat home-made sign:

ThanksgivingFW2008405.jpg

These folks on the 500 loop brought their own blow-up bouncer. There were kids out there bouncing around all day:

ThanksgivingFW2008407.jpg

Just a few sites down from this family-friendly site, I came across this interesting motor-home:

ThanksgivingFW2008408.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008409.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008410.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008411.jpg

Yes, that is a ten foot high photo of a woman covering her chest with her hair. So? I really hoped that I could catch a glimpse of who it was that brought this rig to the Fort, but, sadly, I did not. You will have to use your imagination on that too.

I wonder how their neighbors liked camping next to the ten foot photo?

For some reason, there was a bunch of sand on the road surface in the 1900 loop. I know that we had a couple Disboard members camping in there. Can anyone tell us what this was about?:

ThanksgivingFW2008412.jpg

On the 100 loop, I came across the site of the owner of a really cool golf cart that has been discussed on the golf cart thread. Here is his site:

ThanksgivingFW2008400.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008401.jpg

Do you notice the dog bowl? This guy had a dog here on the 100 loop. Which also is not an official pet loop. More evidence that you can have a pet wherever you want to these days.

And, here is a close-up of this guy's license plate and bumper sticker:

NCLicensePlate.jpg

That isn't a real North Carolina license plate, is it? Shan-man?

What is it with the North Carolina campers and the Stars and Bars?

Here is our friend taking his cart out for a spin:

For anyone still following along, I haven't yet shared my favorite moment and photos from this trip, so be sure to check back.

TCD

I'm still following, too!

Those two guys in the pic - are they wearing waders or is my "Mrs. Magoo" nickname more accurate than I thought? :confused3

It's kind of hard to tell, but it looks to me like they have chaps on, which probably means they were riding some Harleys. Of course, I could see where TCD was going with it :P

No, they are wearing leather chaps. Like the biker in the Village People. I think they were real motorcycle guys, but I don't know. Not the type of attire you see commonly around the Fort. I guess the photo doesn't show this too well. Sorry.

You betcha! popcorn::

ThanksgivingFW2008395.jpg

That motion sensor Santa freaked me out more than one evening on our way by! :lmao:

ThanksgivingFW2008408.jpg

That's called a write-off!! :lmao:
DH has been trying for years to find a way to write-off our toys (incl. the TT) but the accountant just ain't buyin' it. Maybe if I have our hybrid shrink-wrapped with my company name/logo like this, we'd finally be able to pull it off!

I was in the 1900 loop when that happened (the sand)

but sadly I do not know much about cars ;) so I would have to call my dad with what happened because he knows but what I do know is that a truck leaked something from under. I THINK it was anti-freeze, it smelled really bad.
I don't think it was oil but it had a very pungent smell, maybe that can help you figure out what it was haha :thumbsup2

sorry I don't know much about cars so I can't help ya out

I am still reading too :thumbsup2

I am still following along and I know before you are done its gonna cost me money. I can usually get by for a couple of months before I get the itch but with all your great pictures I am getting itchy and with it being colder than hell here it makes it harder not to dewinterize the TT and head south. We've only been back a month and the DW:flower3: won't even talk about it for another month.:sad1: Maybe I can wiggle in a March trip:idea:Keep up the great pictures.:surfweb:

I'm still here:surfweb: Can't wait for more! Your reports are so interesting!
Thanks!

Clearly, time for Mrs. Magoo to get new glasses! :rotfl:

Thanks for providing this information.

That is an awful lot of sand. I don't think it would have been anti-freeze.

Perhaps we are better off not knowing ;)

What the heck goes on back there in the 1900 loop, anyway?

TCD

Do they take the carriage or wagon rides through the 1900 loop? Maybe somebody fed the horse Beefareeno.

Let's get back on track.

Some more New Year's Day photos:

There was some type of incident on the 800 loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008414.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008416.jpg

Sorry, but I did not get the story on this. I know we had some Disboard operatives on the 800 loop, too, so anyone got the story on this?

Check out this guy on the mini-bike:

ThanksgivingFW2008415.jpg

That sucker was fast, too. We were side by side with him on the golf cart, and he left us in the dust.

The rest of the day was spent around the Fort, and then we headed over to Wilderness Lodge. We did not have ADR's, but silly me thought the we could perhaps walk up to Whispering Canyon Cafe. I figured New Year's Eve would have been a big night for all the restaurants, and that there would be openings on New Year's Day. No chance. We checked with the WL Concierge to see if there was any availability at any of the other close resorts (Contemporary or Polynesian). Not a thing.

So, we decided to head to Downtown Disney. We had taken the bus from the Fort to WL, so we decided to bus it to Downtown Disney. Did you know that the same bus served WL and the Grand Floridian going to and from Downtown Disney? Does that make any sense? So, after stopping to drop off and pick up passengers at the Grand Floridian, we arrive at Downtown Disney. It is packed!

We had at first entertained the thought of eating at the new T-Rex restaurant, but we already visited there on a less busy night on a previous trip, and knew that the wait tonight would be hopeless. We tried the Rainforest Cafe. Two hour wait there! So, it was off to the Earl of Sandwich. Fine with me. I like it there. It was busy here, too, but the service was quick and efficient, and we enjoyed a good meal.

We spent some time enjoying the marketplace, and then it was back to WL (had to catch the bus there to get to our cart, which we had left at the Settlement bus stop).

Back at the Fort, we enjoyed what remained of the Christmas decorations (people were already taking them down). Here are my last shots of the 1600 loop overachievers:

This fifth wheel was in the first spot on the 1600 loop. Simple, but nice:

ThanksgivingFW2008431.jpg

As we headed from the 1600-1900 loop area toward the Meadow area, a family of deer crossed the road right in front of our cart, and headed over to the little lake by the tennis courts:

We saw this same group later that night, too.

We spent the rest of the night enjoying the Fort, and then called it a night.

The "spillage" in the road of the 1900 loop happened while we were staying there. It was diesel fuel that had leaked out of a MH. Not sure what the problem was....a ruptured tank or just something come loose. It was very smelly for several days.....we were glad to be farther back in the loop.
