Taylor Swift just made me cry

:confused3 How are they getting much variety of anything with only 2 hours a day? Do you want to check, maybe they're just playing one song :rotfl:

She's no Handel, but she is an extremely talented kid, and can write circles around some of her "peers" many who are more than twice her age.

I play her music on the flute and trust me she uses plenty of the notes.

I am not trying to argue with you but I have been listening to musicians, both professional and casual, practice for nearly my entire life and even my girls have commented that it is often the same set of notes in her music i.e. when they try and sing along with the playing the one not sitting in front of the book needs to ask which song they are singing now.

I was just commenting that I hope as she grows that the music grows and maybe has a little more variety.

I'm not a big Taylor Swift fan, but maybe it's because I'm in my 50's, just not young enough to appreciate her talent. I am glad she is in country music though, to appeal to the younger girls/women. I don't dislike her, I mean I won't turn the radio off if one of her songs comes on but she's just not one of my favorite singers. My DH, on the other hand just calls her a snot-nosed kid, and won't even listen to her songs. He's kind of a fuddy duddy old person though.

I think there is room in the country music world for all types of people. Taylor does appeal to many so there is a place for her. I wasn't crazy about her winning Entertainer of the Year, I just think it's "too soon" at 19. Like she said in her acceptance speech, everything she's ever wanted in life has happened to her. So, what's left? I think they should have let her mature a couple more years or so before they gave her that big of an award. I was hoping Brad Paisley would win.

Taylor has gone higher faster than anyone ever has in country- plus she crosses over into the pop category.

I thought it was FANTASTIC to see a woman win for a change! 10 years is a long time!

I would need to see proof that it wasn't Carrie Underwood.

Still, even I like Taylor Swift.

I love Taylor Swift. I really admire how far she has come, and all the while the girl managed to stay fully dressed!! I also like the content of her music, the songs are sweet, and express the way a girl feels, without anything nasty. I don't see anything wrong with awarding a top selling artist with the entertainer of the year award, when she is obviously entertaining many people to be a selling that much.

This article says she was the top selling artist in all popular music formats (whatever that means :rotfl:)

I saw that on a tv show (can't remember which one) where they were interviewing country music "people" (people behind the scenes) and that is what they were saying when asked about Taylor being in the entertainer of the year category........ A couple of guys said she had done in a mere 3 years what it took everyone else much longer.

Although I agree- Carrie shot up pretty fast too! Does she write her own stuff though? That might be the difference in the two.

I agree with everything you said in your second paragraph :thumbsup2

I don't know if it's been posted already, but here's Wynonna Judd's reaction to Taylor winning:

http://www.digitalspy.com/music/news/a186604/judd-too-soon-for-taylor-swift-award.html

"You want my honest comment? It's too much too soon," USA Today quotes Judd as saying before the ceremony.

"Time is God's way of keeping everything from happening at once. It's just too much of a good thing too soon. My thing is, being a home-school mum, I want kids to earn it... mum and I rode in a car for the first year of our career to visit radio stations.

"There was a making of the star, there was a rising up, and the fans went with us. Now it's over coffee breaks, the success, almost. You have to play catch up."

She reportedly added: "It's like the girl who wins an Oscar and she's under 20. What do you do from here?"

Wynonna Judd is jealous- she's a total has been.

That's my opinion.

I think from here Taylor just continues to write and sing.... it's what she was born to do.

So, how old was Wynonna when she won entertainer of the year?

While I understand that is your opinion, you honestly sound like someone who is new to country music. Country is not Pop, there are no "has beens". Wynona Judd is a great artist and worked hard. Her music is one for the ages. She knows a lot about being young and successful in the country music business. Today young stars do rise to the top quickly, it used to be much harder. I can understand what she is saying because I thought the same thing. I am certainly not jealous as I can't sing at all. She was by no means disrespectful and did not say she did not deserve it but that it was just all too much too soon! You know that she is not the only country star who is thinking that.

She made me cry too! I'm happy for her, but I am a little surprised at the people she beat out for this award. Does anyone know why Toby Keith is never part of these shows anymore? He is my favorite.
The industry itself barely ever recognizes Toby Keith, but when it comes time for fans to vote or for awards to be based on sales he has done pretty well.

I am not "new" to country music. Been a fan since 86ish when I graduated from high school......... used to LOVE The Forrester Sisters...... Keith Whitley.... Randy Travis......The Judds.....Lorrie Morgan........ Reba etc

I understand maybe thinking what Wynonna said, but saying it to be put in print was just ignorant. Way to try to steal some of the girls thunder......

I don't see what Wy has anything to be jealous of. I think Taylor is a much better song writer then a singer

Entertainer of the Year I get. When I think of that, I think of someone who is on the radio frequently, on the tv, someone who is on tour, whose concerts sell out quickly. Almost like a popularity contest. Taylor fits that bill.

Female vocalist of the year sorry don't get that one. Popular she is ,but vocalist not so much. Her songs are cute but not great. I am not a fan of the the POP crossover. I listen to pop and country but I like to keep it seperate.

I also do not like when one artist dominates awards it makes it seem less diversified.

I agree with the Entertainer of the Year vs Female Vocaslist of the year distinction. Taylor's open emotion just moved me. I don't totally agree with the Female Vocalist of the Year award, but she definately entertained a lot this year. She said she had opened up for every other person nominated for the award in the past year. If you look at the music, dolls, merchandising, concerts etc she has certainly entertained, in some form or the other, a larger demographic than say, Kenny Chesney. She seems to work very hard, and is a very talented, driven young lady who was genuinely moved by being selected to win such an important award. Very thouching.

I was almost as moved by Darius Rucker's award. He is very talented as well, and his award was more remarkable, given his crossover status, his newness as a "country" singer and let's say it, his race. I say that not as a detractor or to get flamed but simply that to many, country music and it's followers can be perceived as blue collar, middle class, white men and women who yearn for the good old days. KWIM? Truly a recordsetting and emotional evening.

You don't like her music......and yet because I stated that I don't think she can sing well, you are gonna get bent? Ok.........:rolleyes1

Have a nice day:hippie:

You can reread your own post. Not so much about her voice, more that she was really super duper at swinging her head around.

Taylor is young, pretty, talented and pretty much the darling of country music (and successful in pop too) right now.

I don't think Toby has any new music out.

I thought Brad and Carrie did a great job hosting I l oved there little duets LOL

Taylor is okay, I don't personally think she in the same league as Kenny, Brad, and there is no way she has paid her dues like George has.

Toby does have new music out, someone else mentioned the song title, American Ride. It's pretty new and we just saw him in concert not too long ago. We left the show after 5 Toby songs, he was totally drunk, to the point where he wasn't even singing his songs, the audience was singing for him. Very disappointing.....but honestly we were there with Trace so we weren't planning to see that much Toby. :)
But I hope you get to hear his new song soon, it's not too bad.

Well, *I* was really disappointed that she won. This is just MY opinion! She cannot sing without "help"......she may be bringing money to her record label, but there is nowhere near the level of talent that the others have. Guess money CAN buy anything!

She is cute. She is popular. She can fling her head around unendingly. She has not yet done a "Britney" or "Miley."

But she cannot sing.

I'm honestly glad I'm not the only person who feels this way about her singing. I do not think she should have won so many awards, album of the year? yes! video of the year? yes! female vocalist? no, entertainer of the year? maybe, she has done a lot of entertaining this past year, that's for sure. :) But I too feel she cannot sign without help. I feel the same way about Rascal Flatts, the lead singer is much like Taylor, cannot carry a tune and sings very off key. I have seen the Taylor head fling but it's not that bad, definitely not as bad as Britney. LOL :thumbsup2
I love Taylor's attitude, her positive outlook on life and her positive role model status. I think that's really great, she's showing young women that it's OK to be pretty but not trampy, and she has a lot of talent, she's a great songwriter, just not so great a singer. That doesn't mean she's not good, she's just not great. I will say that I really like Taylor's music, we have both of her CD's and my girls listen to her endlessly. I'm OK with that, but people need to really listen to her actual live singing, it's very different.....you couldn't really tell last night, too many 15 y.o. singing along with her. :) But I've felt that way since she was on the CMA's the first time, when she sang "Tim McGraw".

Not one of the girls you listed is a singer songwriter.

She is the definition of a total package, not only can she write a hit song (at her age!) she can and does sing live for thousands upon thousands of paying fans and she does it very, very well.

I'm not sure about your "presents herself carefully" comment. God forbid someone is professional while they are at work! Of course she is?

Both Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood write their own songs, they are both also very talented singers. Taylor just does not compare to Carrie for me, Carrie is much more than Taylor is. I also love Kellie Pickler's music, but I don't think she write it herself. :)

I truly believe the 4 ladies just mentioned are some of today's strongest country music performers. They show our young girls it's OK to be yourself and respect yourself! I am truly grateful to have them around so my girls learn it's ok to not be like Miley or Brittney or Lady GaGa, that's very very important in this day and age.

I'm so glad you mentioned Darius!! He's a great guy and a wonderful performer. I've known him for years and I know he's just over the moon regarding his win!! :) I know I almost cried for him! :)

Let me just say it again, I am a fan of Taylor Swift, she's a wonderful young lady and a great role model for my daughters. :)
