Tattoos on teachers?

Don't forget that "you people" don't have a full set of teeth, either. Just sayin...:rolleyes1

I thought that was only in Kentucky! :lmao:

Which reminds me...my mom went to Canada on vacation when she was around 10 or so. The sales clerk, upon hearing that they were from Ky, came out from behind the counter to look at their feet, because she had always heard that people from Ky don't wear shoes. :rotfl:

Dont ferget yu put on yur best toob top and brush yur tuth fer date nite;)

Because we all know WV (and apparently Ky) is where the "tooth" brush was invented!:lmao: Thats why I put off getting my tatt. I was saving up to have my one tooth gold plated. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I have seen a 50-ish year old woman with lots of tattoos and she looked horrible. It all turns dark green after several years and it is not a pretty sight.

I still feel Tats are a lower class phenom-no matter how polite and nice you are, if you have "ink" you are regarded by many as , to put it nicely, "trailer trash" and I wouldn't want a teacher with Ink.

I would rather my child have a teacher who is covered in tattoos and lives in a trailer park then to have a teacher who is narrow-minded and would use the term "trailer trash".

I think tattoos are uniformly ugly and I do think they say something about the judgment of person with the tattoos. That's all I have to say on this subject. ;)

:worship:

I don't mind them. Some are nice. What I don't particularly care for are the people who have so much color they look like cartoon characters. It's those that I wonder how all that will look when they're older, but that's for them to worry about.

DW and I are both child care providers. DW has 5 tattoos and 3 of those are visible. I have two, and one is visible. It is small chinese letters on the back of my neck and I love them. I often wear my thick, hard to manage hair up in a bun for work. Thank goodness I have always worked for wonderful open-minded families who couldn't care less about my tattoo and the same goes for DW. We are both excellent nannies and I would hate to think we were being judged for our ink.

I was considering going back to school to become a preschool teacher...guess I shouldn't do that!

Follow your dreams-not everyone in the world is as judgmental and low class as some of the comments you are reading on here.

I work for a large public school district near where you live (according to your info posted under your username). We have plenty of teachers with tattoo's. It is no reflection on how these teachers are perceived as a teacher.

All the young people thinking ink is perfectly acceptable today are the hiring managers of the future. They won't have the closed minded attitude that some of today's older managers have. So, those in college and high school today will face a far different world regarding acceptance of ink than how some of the older people do today. And I am in my 50's, so not a young person hoping for a change. I just see it in the attitudes of the younger people I work with.

For the record, my BIL - who is in his 60's has plenty of ink. He is a veteran, getting his first tat in 'Nam. He has added over the years.

He was gainfully employed in management at a fortune 500 company till his early retirement. None of the customers nor upper management seemed to think he was trailer trash or "people like that".

And his tattoos still look fine.

Maybe or maybe not. Not all young people today think tattoos are great.

Regardless, it's not something to be done without serious consideration first, IMHO.

My school district has a policy of none visible. Many of my co-workers have them, and if they are somewhere highly visible they have to wear band aids.

It seems kind of silly that the students can have all the tattoos they want and the teachers have to keep them hidden.

I do not see anything wrong with tattoos, I don't think it would have an impact on somebody's teaching. I do not have any myself, mostly because I am scared. I may overcome my fear and get one someday.

Tats might look cool when they are fresh, but I have never seen a crisp looking tat on a 60 year old. The little parrot starts to look like a bit of road kill... With that in mind I see a tattoo as a sign that the person doesn't have any foresight, they don't respect their body, they are most likely followers and just not a good role model. And if anyone outside your family is viewed as a role model to young kids it is a teacher they see 6 hours a day... I would have a real problem with some trashy looking teacher for my kids and that is what people look like when they have tattoos.

Oh please! Talk about close-minded and judgmental.

I work with 2 ladies who just got new tattoos one cost $1500 and the other ladies was $600. I guess I will never get one because I can't afford to.

Do it and consider your tattoos the perfect way to weed out the obnoxious parents that you won't have to deal with every day!! :yay:

Another incredible marrow-minded comment. All kinds of people have tattoos, probably people you know. Would you call them trailer trash to their face?

My daughter had a swimming instructor at the Y who had tattoos. I called up to complain about it. From then on she had bandages over them.

I don't get the people that put tattoos on their necks, what were they thinking.

Tatoos are associated with the lower class, just the way it is.

Yes I did. I didn't think it was appropriate for a swimming instructor to be have tattoos in odd places while instructing young girls. I was thanked and told that there were others who called.

I own business and have never hired a tattooed person and don't plan on it. The people that I deal with and who are paying us the amount of money that we bill out don't want that kind of people around.

Every choice we make has consequences. When you tattoo yourself you are setting yourself up for judgement and the possibility of hurting yourself job wise. Just the way it is, right or wrong.

Could you tell me what your business is? I want to make sure I never make the mistake of dealing with business that take such a narrow view of people.
