Tattoos on teachers?

Another incredible marrow-minded comment. All kinds of people have tattoos, probably people you know. Would you call them trailer trash to their face?

Of course they wouldn't!

Manners dictate you say things behind people's backs. ;)

I think it is sad that people think it is okay to belittle someone and call them names because they don’t look the “norm"

Could you tell me what your business is? I want to make sure I never make the mistake of dealing with business that take such a narrow view of people.

I don't deal in Canada. But would gladly do business with you if I did.

I think tattoos are uniformly ugly and I do think they say something about the judgment of person with the tattoos. That's all I have to say on this subject. ;)

So by using the wink smilie can we assume that you are being sarcastic in saying the people with tattoos use poor judgment?

I own business and have never hired a tattooed person and don't plan on it. The people that I deal with and who are paying us the amount of money that we bill out don't want that kind of people around.

Every choice we make has consequences. When you tattoo yourself you are setting yourself up for judgement and the possibility of hurting yourself job wise. Just the way it is, right or wrong.

Just to ask...How do you know you've never hired a tattooed person? Unless disrobing is part of the interview process...you don't know.

You would be suprised at the number pf people you probably already deal with that have them...or how hard your ife may be if you truly stopped dealing with anyone who had a tattoo.

And if having tattoos makes you low class...then so be it because I am
living a pretty good life for such a low class person..:woohoo:

Doesn't matter. Why are you being so rude?

You have implied that people with tattoos are somehow beneath everyone and you wouldn't hire a person because they have a tattoo and I'm being rude.

That's a good one. At least I'm open-minded enough not to judge people by the way they look.

I took the thread to be about visible tattoos.

Then you have a very good quality that few people have. It is true that most people judge a person by their appearance.

What is really sad is that his business is more than likely missing out on some very talented employees.

Absolutely. My 19yo son has 2 tattoos (and ear piercings! the horror!) and was named Employee of the Month at his first job, his first month. Then when he changed jobs, he was part of a mass hire but was brought in early because the boss wanted the "#1 candidate" and he was it. He's honest, hard-working, and polite. Any business would be lucky to have him and any of his equally charming pierced and tatted friends. :thumbsup2

What has that got to do with anything?

I quoted the poster who said she'd like her child have ateacher covered with tats-just some pics of people covered with Tats:rolleyes1

Many larger companies have rules about no earrings in men, only one earring in women, no other piercing, no tats showing . 3 of the Companies DH worked for had this listed in the Employee Handbook.

I've got 5 tattoos, 3 of which are visible. I also have a nose piercing & multiple "out of the norm" ear piercings. Used to have other facial piercings as well.

I also have a masters degree in education. I decided to be a SAHM with my daughter, but did substitute frequently & student taught. My students were mainly high schoolers so they're the type that would notice that stuff. It was always humorous when they saw me in the summer outside of school and saw my quarter sleeve on my arm.

I don't look like the typical "tattooed person" that so many narrow-minded people assume there to be. I'm a very typical, clean cut looking mom until you see me in the summer or with my hair up.

Honestly, ignorance towards body modification is really a rapidly fading mind set held mainly by the older generations. I've got too much going on in my life to listen to or care about an increasingly minority opinion.

I love my tattoos and have not regretted a single one. They all have very special meanings to me -- I don't get anything done for purely aesthetic reasons. Will they affect my ability to get a job or be taken seriously? They haven't thus far and I can't picture that changing in the future as more and more people get tattooed.
