Tattoos on teachers?

I quoted the poster who said she'd like her child have ateacher covered with tats-just some pics of people covered with Tats:rolleyes1

Many larger companies have rules about no earrings in men, only one earring in women, no other piercing, no tats showing . 3 of the Companies DH worked for had this listed in the Employee Handbook.

And just as many do not. I spent 12 years in Corporate America and I would say most were pretty open regarding tattoos, piercings on men and women (and on the face), long hair on men..etc. My own company included in the group that didn't have any mandates around those thing (again barring anything obscene/profane/offensive).

Depending on the age (younger being the worst), that could be very distracting, especially the first one.

did you read the story? I laughed :rolleyes1 I wonder if its true... Just how drunk do you have to be to have that happen?

No, but from your comment, perhaps I should! :goodvibes

ETA: Interesting. Yeah, I have my questions as to the accuracy of it, too. Wouldn't it take a pretty long time to do that...especially since it's color and not just an outline?

That and this paragraph makes me wonder:

“My little Jimmy came home in tears and said there was a monster at school that wanted to kill him!” cried stay at home mom, Shirley Schlatte. “His therapist suggested we remove peanuts from his diet and get him involved in activities that will build his confidence, like badminton or Jarts. We’re just hoping that Jimmy doesn’t end up a shut-in when he gets older. It runs in our family and that Principal’s head isn’t making it any easier for him to get through the day!”

They have another article entitled "7-Eleven Offers Prostate Exam with Slurpee and Chili Dog Purchase". I'm going to say that it's not real.

I don't get the people that put tattoos on their necks, what were they thinking.

Tatoos are associated with the lower class, just the way it is.

So Winston Churchill was lower class not to mention President Theodore Roosevelt as they both had tattoos and is Caroline Kennedy trashy as well

http://www.mademan.com/mm/5-famous-politicians-tattoos.html
2. President Theodore Roosevelt. The 32nd president of the United States proudly bore a tattoo image of his family crest across his chest. Not many people are aware of this famous politician’s tattoo because it was simply in a location which was not readily visible. It was not that he was ashamed or regretted the tattoo, but the location that made it inconspicuous.
3. Caroline Kennedy. This famous politician with a tattoo may have regrets about her artwork. During a trip to Hong Kong in the ‘80s Caroline and cousin Kara Kennedy were challenged by John F. Kennedy Jr. and Teddy Kennedy Jr. to get inked. She ended up with a small butterfly tattoo on her arm, near the inside crook of her elbow. At the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, the audience receives a glimpse of the tattoo, which looks like it is in the process of being removed.
4. Barry Goldwater. Known as the father of modern U.S. conservatism, he had a very small tattoo on the underside of his left hand. This tattoo was a crescent moon with 4 dots, which is the trademark of the Smoki People. The Smoki People is a group of people, based in Arizona, which functions as a sort of Boy Scouts for grownups. Mr. Goldwater campaigned for the Presidency of the United States in 1964. This was a time in which tattoos were not socially acceptable, yet that did not stop Mr. Goldwater from being one of the few famous politicians with a tattoo.
5. John Fetterman. Mayor of the town of Braddock Pennsylvania. Described him as "America's coolest mayor" in many publications. He has also appeared on "The Colbert Report" in 2009.One of his forearms displays the number 15104 in bold black type, which is the zip code of the town of which he is mayor. The other forearm bears a list of six dates. These are the dates on which people have died in awful circumstances under his watch. Now that is a dedicated mayor!

So does he wear a suit and they are all covered?

And its amazing that you know what all his customers think!

I simply dont believe this statement-unless they are covered-OR unless the "Fortune 500" company is some hippy-dippy place like Ben & jerry's:lmao:

My relative is in sales in one of the largest employers in our city-no tats, long hair or beards are allowed. Kinda like Disney;)

The Top 10 Fortune 500 companies-

Now that I see who is #1-I believe you :)

So your relative is working for a firm that would refuse to hire sikhs ? As they are not allowed to cut their hair EVER.

That was my guess, then I saw the free prostate exams at 7-eleven and was fairly certain. Thanks for the confirmation.

All thought that would be interesting. I can hear it now..."Would you like a grape slushie with that?" :rotfl:

I am a teacher and I have tattoos. They are not visible in my work attire. I didn't get my art until I was in my mid-30s. My district does not have a policy against small tattoos. I have a couple coworkers who have something small on a foot or ankle that you can sometimes see. My principal even has a small tattoo on her shoulder, that is occasionally partially visible in a sleeveless dress. She is one of the best administrators I have ever had! I don't think tattoos distract the children in any way. As long as the teacher is dressed appropriately for their job, I do not think it makes you look unprofessional. Would you still look professional with hand, face, or visible neck tattoos? Probably not. Would it make you a bad teacher? No! A very nice gentleman who used to substitute for me had a neck tattoo. He wore a dress shirt and tie that covered it. In a non-collared shirt or sweater it would have been visible and it would not have been allowed by our district.

I do know that some neighboring districts have policies against any kind of visible tattoos. Any tattoos a teacher might have, need to be covered by clothing or a band-aid. That is a reason I have never gotten an ankle tattoo...in case I ever move and need to work for a different district!

For all these who came out with the blanket statement that having any visible tattoo makes you lower class trailer trash. You must think all halocaust victims are lower class trash as they all have at least one tattoo on their arms.

:sad2:
I doubt any Holocaust victims are teaching-the youngest ones have to be in their 70;s now

DH has been for 30 years, dealing with architects, engineers, electricians, plumbers, concrete guys etc. Never met a colleague with visable tatoos-but i'm talking the guys in the office.I'm sure the paid workers under them, who are out in the sun all day had them, but not the managers.

He did have colleague(girl) who could not wear her multiple earrings when their company issued the new rules and one of the draftsmen-a guy-had to stop wearing earrings.

Okay, I'm on the side of "let the teachers have tattoos", I even posted as much earlier in the thread, but this is a complete stretch, and absolutely not what the anti-tattoo people intended when make their statements.

That's a little different don't ya think? I'm surprised it took so long for this to be brought up.
