I would have assumed that the Kindles would have been discounted at Target already - since they have announced that they are going to stop carrying them.

So - does anyone know when they will start to get marked down?
Thanks!

Maybe tomorrow (fatwallet forum discussion, expired deals)
Maybe toward the end of the month (fatwallet forum discussion, expired deals)
Possibly they already are, but 'only' 20%, if you go in and ask an associate to scan the UPC (fatwallet forum discussion, expired deals)
Never, they'll just keep selling them until they don't and then send them back and no, we don't know anything about any upcoming sales (personal experience - never going back to THAT Target!)

My Husband works in electronics at a Target in Georgia. He says that currently there is no information stateing they are to mark them down, they are only selling them until they are sold out, they did the same thing when the iPad 2 came out, they did not discount the iPad 1's other then the change in price that Apple authorized. At this point, they may get further directions but for now no markdowns. :guilty:

I was wondering about this too. I was there yesterday and asked about it. The salesman told me the same thing. They are selling them as normal until/unless they are told differently.
I want to pick up a second Kindle, so I was hoping that we could get one on sale.

Thanks for the insight! PLEASE...if you hear anything different...can you let us know???;)

My Target ad for the week starting tomorrow shows the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi $99 with a $20 GC, and the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi and 3G $149 with $40 GC.
It says "quantities limited, no rainchecks" so I'm not sure if they will be clearanced out or not. I saw on slickdeals that someone said they would be starting last week, but so far not one person has reported finding that to be true.

The electronics personnel at the latest Target I visited didn't know anything about clearance, either. Nice kids, but they also didn't know you can now share books with the Kindle, either :). I did ask to have a Kindle Fire scanned, in case it was marked down 20% like that person on fatwallet experienced. No luck.

Then I bought it anyway :rotfl2: I've been lusting after it for months, and I had these gift cards burning a hole in my pocket - cards I've been saving expressly to buy the Fire... I'm not going to open it yet, though, in case the clearance miraculously starts soon.

Is kindle like Ipad, where the parent company keeps tight control over the price no matter what the retailer does with it? Apple rarely discounts its Ipad, although you may find it here or there a few dollars cheaper. I wonder if amazon is doing the same thing?

Exactly, eliza. Earlier this week, Amazon offered the refurbished Kindle Fire as their Deal of the Day at $139 - $30 off its normal price. Then Wednesday, a news outlet reported that Target would be putting all their Kindles on clearance starting Thursday, due to a deal with Apple.

So far, nothing. Except the refurbs, and various special offers like bonus gift cards (or recently a store had a 'basic' Kindle for $49 with the purchase of a Fire) - nada.

I talked with my sister, who works for Target in their price change group, and she said she thinks they will sell at regular price until gone. Possibly the last few might go on clearance, but that would be on a store by store basis. She is watching for one for me!:cool1:
