Tall enough, but still not riding!

My son had just turned 5 when we went to Disney. When we were planning fast passes etc. I never planned to do Space Mountain or Everest. Well the first park we went to was AK and that morning he kept asking to go on Everest so I took him on and he loved it. Then fast forward to the Halloween Party a few nights later...at this point he had rode Splash, SDMT, SDD, Everest, BTMRR and he keeps saying he really wanted to ride Space Mountain. I finally agreed to take him but I was nervous the whole time since he was not in the seat with me. I did sit behind him so I could sort of see him. But usually on roller coasters I always have my hand on him....I know I am not really preventing him from falling out but it makes me feel better. Again he ended up loving SM but I was nervous.

My twins loved space and everest at 5 as soon as the hit the 44 inch mark. I sat behind them so I could kind of keep an eye on them.

I’m just envious that your almost 5 yr old will go on those rides. My daughter is 13 & hates the thrill rides. She even doesn’t like Splash Mountain, which I don’t even consider a thrill ride. My husband couldn’t wait till she was old enough & tall enough to go on those rides but we just can’t even to get her to try. As far as getting nervous for her, go with your gut.
Kids are so funny. I have just the opposite. Our youngest is afraid of Its A Small World but loves the roller coasters. She says the dolls are so scary... I'd be a rich woman if I could figure them out.

Did they let them ride Everest sitting together? I would like to do that with my twins, who will be 6 at the time, with me sitting behind, but wasn't sure if they would allow it since they are under 7.

I have no doubt that she would want to ride it, its all my fear really. On the other rides, I can see her and have my hands on her, but not with Space. That's the part that scares me. I know its not rational, but its just how I'm feeling!

I feel exactly the same way! My boys are tall enough, but so skinny that I am always afraid they will wriggle out from the restraint. I have this crazy idea that I will somehow be able to protect them if I am sitting next to them. I can't make up my mind either, even though I am sure they would love it!

They'll be fine. I'd bet that the restrains are designed so that it's rather hard or darn near impossible to wiggle out of them. I'm a full size adult, but having taken my kids on Space since they were really little, I can't even imagine how you'd get out of that cramped cart and the bar.

Put it another way, how many stories of kids getting physically hurt on Space Mountain have you heard about? Not saying it has never happened, because I don't know for a fact, but I'd be willing to bet the number is incredibly small...if not complete zero.

I was slightly nervous the first time each of my kids rode Space Mountain!! I sat right behind them and basically leaned forward the entire time so I could have my hand on their shoulders and reassure myself that they were still there! Lol! They were fine and they LOVED it! This past trip my DS5 decided he really wanted to try the front seat on Space Mountain. Even though he's tall for his age, he must've been slouched down enough that I could NOT see his head at all the whole time we were riding! It made me slightly freaked out even though I knew there was no chance he could've fallen out! I made my DH ride with him his first time on RnRC this past trip because I knew I would feel so nervous the whole time! But of course he's been totally fine every time and he loves thrill rides so he begs to ride them over and over again!

In my experience, they won't let a child ride with another child for most rides if he/she is under 7. We just went a few weeks ago with DS5 and DD8. The kids asked at a lot of rides if they could sit together but they were only allowed on a few - Splash Mountain (if we were sitting directly behind them), Figment (again with us directly behind them), and I think Magic Carpets (same). My nieces and nephews were also on the trip so my DD8 rode with them on a lot of rides (they're all older) and when she rode with my 10-year-old niece and my 11-year-old nephew, they were both asked their ages every time by a CM.

On our last trip DS was a bit over 40". We rode most of the things he was tall enough for and he loved Splash, 7DMT, Big Thunder and SDD. He endured Mission Space, but like someone else said he didn't like the emergency part. Loved Test Track, didn't get a chance to try Soarin'. I did not try him on Dinosaur, because it seems too scary for him and not worth potentially putting him off of other rides throughout the trip. I was not surprised that he didn't like TOT, although I was surprised that he hated TSM (things flying at his face...). Funny kid emphatically wants to ride both of them again next trip though, because he wants to prove that he can!
