Talk about BAD service.......

All our grocery stores - all the lanes have the split conveyor belt. 2 people at a time...

Seriously, this concept is odd to me. i worked as a cashier at a 1 lane store and I never bagged, either. That's what those little separation sticks are for.

Huh? The sticks are for the other side of the line, before anyone is checked out. You use them for the groceries that have been scanned/rung up? Odd.

I never, and I mean never (unless I'm at Ikea and that still rankles me), bag my groceries. It just doesn't occur to me to do it. And I don't think it should occur to me to do it.

And I've never seen a checkout line with a split conveyor belt.

What state do you live in?

Little separation sticks are to separate the orders on the conveyor belt BEFORE they are rung up. These grocery stores would hate me. I'd be standing there quite a long time waiting for my order to be bagged. If they want me to do the work their employees should be doing they can give me a huge discount to do it.

Only store I shop at that I'm not expected to at least start bagging my groceries is Wegmans. Everywhere else the customer starts bagging the cashier helps finish after the order is complete.

Count me as another who shops at a store where they don't bag your groceries. It does not bother me in the least and I really don't expect the cahsier to do anything but check me out. I would think someone who bagged your groceries would be called a bag boy/girl.:confused3 There are 2 belts at every grocery store I shop in.

So for the people who keep acting as if we are stupid (or don't grocery shop) because we don't get the concept of someone bagging our groceries, we don't get your concept either. But there is a plesant way to say it.;)

I use the self-checkout when I can. The only effect so far has been to cut down the length of lines IMO.

Most of our food stores do not have baggers either, BUT the cashiers do the bagging. Their job is to ring up the order AND bag it. I can't believe that people think it is ok for the customer to have to put their purchases in the bag, unless your purchasing from a warehouse type store. In our hurry-up world we've started to "help" the employee do their job and now many expect it to be done for them.

Think of it this way, when you go to a department store (take your pick) or heck, even WalMart, do you expect to bag your purchase yourself? Why should you do it at the grocery store.

BTW....I refuse to use the self-checkout lines. I see them as just another way to cut costs and employees. I'm giving them my money to purchase something from them, they can provide me with the service of figuring out how much my purchase costs.

had to laugh at this. It is not like they are asking us to give up our first born child.:rotfl2:

Geez, for those of you who have to bag your own groceries, I hope you're paying less for them. The only place we have to bag our own is a Sav a Lot. Does Aldi's do that too? I don't know; we don't go there.

I can tell you at Aldi's you bag your own stuff but NOT at the cashier area. They have a ledge/area seperate that you take your cart over to & then bag the stuff yourself. It's past where the check-out counter is.

Those cashiers are FAST -- at least the ones at the Aldi's I've gone to before, so I'm scurrying trying to get the stuff back in the cart before they get ready to ring up the next person. :lmao:

You unload your cart, take it to the end, the cashier rings them up, puts them at the end (which isn't very big), you take them off and put them back into your cart. Then pay. Then take them over to the bagging ledge.

At Aldi's you need to either bring your own bags/boxes or you can buy them. Depending on where you are I think it's .05 per paper bag & I forget how much for plastic. They have some nice reusable freezer type ones you can buy or just generic ones. I usually just go armed with all the plastic bags I have around from other grocery stores.

The prices are a lot lower at Aldi's too though. You also have to have a quarter to get your cart (but you do get that back when you take your cart back & plug it in to the cart in front of it at the cart corral).

At Kroger's since there are baggers, I would assume the normal course of business would be for the cashier to start bagging after they are done ringing. Since I know I pay more at stores that have baggers, etc... I just refuse to bag at those. I figure I'm paying for it in the price of goods vs. the Aldi's, I'm not going to bag.

Wow, I never knew there were places that didn't bag your groceries. That seems very strange to me. Most of our local grocery stores have a scan and bag system. They have the spinny thing at the end of the belt that holds the bags open, and the cashier just put stuff in the bags as they scan.

I will use the self scan when I am in a hurry and have only a few items, but I will not bag my own cart of groceries. Just how much work are we supposed to do in return for the honor of buying or groceries? Next thing you know, they will have us stocking the shelves as well.

I am the grocery shopper that no one likes to be behind in the store. I always have rainchecks and atleast $20 in coupons to ring up. On a good shopping week I can have more than $40 in coupons and no one wants behind me. When I go to Kroger, I do not expect to bag my own groceries. Sometimes I will help out if it is the cashier that I really like. My DD14 has gone with me before and has helped bag and they offered her a job on the spot.:rotfl: We said maybe this summer, but thanks for the offer.:goodvibes
I never go to the scan it yourself aisle. I hate it with a passion. Coupons, too many items, and a check make that lane a nightmare.
Now I do shop at Aldi's--bring my own bags, and know that I will be bagging because the price is right. No bagging at Kroger or Meijer though, I am paying for that.
