Talk about BAD service.......

I'm POed!!!! I went to Kroger this morning and when I went to check out there was no sacker..no biggie..I always start sacking my groceries if there isn't a sacker. So I am sacking away and the cashier tells me my total...so I stop sacking and go to the machine to slid my credit card. By now there are 2 other customers in line, well she just STANDS there....okay. So I sign my ticket thing and she hands me my receipt and starts CHECKING OUT THE NEXT CUSTOMER.......WHAT?????? I had to hurry to the end to finish bagging my stuff. OMG I could not believe it. I didn't say anything because I am not the type of person who will cause a scene but I DID fire off an e-mail with her name and the store # when I got home. It probably won't do any good but it made me feel better. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!! I really wish I was the type of person who would have said something......

I went to the grocery store the other night, and the cashier actually apologized in advance because she did not have a bagger. I gladly bagged my own that day.

If it was just a general complaint then I wouldn't see them doing anything. However, you named specific person and store number, so they'll here about it. You may not hear anything in return, but those people involved will hear about it. Good for you for complaining.

I think the cashier was suppose to help finish bagging the groceries -- that's what I would expect.

The cashier is supposed to finish bagging or help the current customer at the very least.

She would've gotten yelled at by the next customer if the OP starting putting next customer's groceries into her bags.

The cashier should have finished bagging her groceries. The OP's purchase was not complete until the groceries were bagged and she was gone. The next customer should understand that. I would.

She took advantage of the situation, but you let her. I would have politely asked if there was someone available to bag your groceries. I don't think it would have caused a scene.

I've had that happen before! In my case there was no one behind me, the cashier just stood there chatting with me while I bagged. I was just starting to bag the stuff to help out! Geesh. On one hand I was miffed that she just stood there while I was working. She could've said, let me help you or something. In fact I think that's what I said! On the other, some cashiers just throw my stuff in the bags so I thought of that while I bagged the rest of my stuff. I didn't say anything to the cashier either.

Needless to say, I'm pretty slow to help out now. I didn't care for being in that position.

I have said it before but I will say it again. I refuse to sack my own groceries! It has nothing to do with not wanting to help in fact I hate when I have to show that I won't, but I won't. If you sack your own the manager sees no reason to have someone doing that job. Employees hours get cut back or fewer people are hired. I certainly don't get a discount for doing a job they should be paying someone to do. Give the money to those who need it. The rich get richer, soon there will be no middle class. Its a small thing but it is something.

I was just trying to help HER out...I could have just stood there and waited for her to do it all...check and bag...but I was trying to be nice. So yes, I expected her to start sacking my stuff until it was all bagged....and I would have continued to help her so she could get to the next customer.

At the Kroger where I shop, if there are no baggers and I have begun bagging my groceries, I return to the counter to pay when she's finished ringing everything up and then the cashier finishes bagging the groceries. It was extremely rude for the cashier to simply begin ringing up the next customer.

Hopefully since you named the gal in the email, she'll at least get a talkin' to. My local Kroger is great. They are really friendly and helpful. I always shop there.

I don't know if I would've said anything. Probably depends on my mood at the time. I can be quite snide if I'm feeling it.

It seems to me that the cashier should have finished bagging OP's order before beginning to check out the next person.

The first would've irked me, the second would've sent me over the top.
If I'd be bold enough I would've said, "are these free groceries for me, thanks.". Glad you complained in detail

I think that's a good way to summarize the situation. The order is not done until your bags are in the cart and on their way out the door.

I do not like Meijer's new self-check lanes. They have a flap at the end of the belt that a person behind you can pull out to block the belt from the end of the lane so that he/she can start ringing up groceries while you are still down at the end bagging yours. That can turn into a real mess in a hurry. I refuse to get my weekly groceries (a few, yes, a lot, no) there for that reason. They only ever have one or two real lanes open, the rest are self-check. 20 people trying to ring up their groceries with one cashier to help.

She is suppose to bag the stuff and help the customer, then after that is complete and ONLY after that is completed should she proceed to the next customer.

My cashiers always continue bagging while I am paying and then they help me until I am walking away and then the start ringing up the next customer.

I have never had anyone bag my groceries. They don't offer it here....maybe at the higher priced stores. Once in a while girl/boy scouts will do it for a fund raiser. But to expect the cashier to do it???? Must be another regional thing. My groceries - I bag them!
