Taking water bottles on the plane

I've got a pack of one dozen 16.9 oz water bottles I'd like to take on SWA to Orlando (that's the size that the Crystal Light packets are for). Can they be packed in checked luggage? Or would carryon be better?

I would probably put the in carryon. Last summer DS packed a bottled drink in his suitcase that SW SMASHED. It was all over everything. The suitcase came off the carousel in shrinkwrap. The local SW people said they weren't responsible as there weren't any "Tire Tracks" on it. Said it was normal wear & tear, but it was totally exploded from the frame. SW offices finally made good on the case itself.

You could put it in your luggage but I would worry about them opening if they squash your suitcase. I think it would be easier to just buy them when you get there.

We don't want to stop at a store just to buy water, and as far as I know, the size they have in the parks are larger than 16.9 oz, and that's the size I need for the Crystal Light packs.

I think 12 bottles in a carryon is going to be pretty heavy. I had 4 bottles in my carryon that I used last week for the trip home and it was heavy.

I got a 24 pack of Dasani 16.9 oz at Winn-Dixie by Crossroads for $5.99, I also used the Crystal Light Packets.

Another consideration would be to ship it to the resort, either yourself or through an online shopping service.

Carry one bottle per person, and refill them. If you are using Crystal Light, the Orlando water won't be such a pain in the rear.

(Before someone points out the health risks, I know that refilling water bottles is Bad, but for a week it will probably be okay.)

If I had to, I'd take it as carry-on and just know that it's going to be a pain to drag since it will be so heavy. I'd put it in the smallest pullman suitcase that will fit the water and not put anything else in the bag to keep it as light as possible (and to protect from spillage, though that should be unlikely).

Once I got to the hotel I'd let bell services deal with it, making sure to tip them nicely. Then, on the way home I'd have an empty suitcase to fill with all the junk ...err.. priceless memento's I've bought while at WDW!

What I would really consider is to order water and other snacks and soda from a grocery delivery service and just have them bring it to the resort. You won't have to stop at the store on the way to WDW, and you won't have to lug 20 pounds of water half-way across the US, either. Plus you'll also have snacks in the room, saving you even more money!

No snacks...just water. We plan to be on the go and eating out in the parks constantly. But I want cold refrigerated water (not tap) available when we are in the room, and to take with me when we go out. I'm really not looking to save money this trip...we won't have our kids with us.

I just didn't know if there was some problem with packing water bottles in a checked bag. Never occurred to me that they could break from handling. Thanks for the info! I'll just pack some bottles in my carryon, and some in DH's.

I took 4 24oz Aqaufina water bottles in my carry-on in January. It was heavy, but it worked fine. I wuld be nervous about them in my checked luggage getting squished or something to that effect.

A quick note for carry on and checked luggage. The airlines have weight limits which they enforce, make sure your luggage is not over weight, that will be a very expensive 6 pack of water, Most airlines start at $25.oo and up for over weight.
