Little backstory. We have been to WDW about once a year since my daughter was born. She is 6.5 now. In November we went with a fairly large group, including our 1yr old son. The large group, along with the fact that my son was a handful and my daughter was sick, made for a sort of stressful visit. Don't get me wrong we had a great time, but I could tell my daughter was affected by all those factors and couldn't enjoy some stuff.

Ffwd to now, she is going exceptional in school, and we have decided next vacation we are going to an island for a change of pace (not my cup of tea, I'll go to Disney every time happily!). Anyways, I was poking around and decided to book a quick 3 night stay for just me and my daughter in May. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on things to do that might be a bit out of the ordinary. We are def going to do the Phineas and ferb Epcot adventure. Guess I'm looking for suggestions for things like that, that when traveling with a large group might get passed by. Thanks!

Btw we are going to suprise her on the morning we leave, just hoping she won't miss her mom too much.

Daddy-daughter trips are the best!

Maybe make an ADR somewhere just to have dessert.
Look for hidden mickeys together
take the Behind the Seeds tour
Ride her favorite ride over and over
Explore the trails at AK

Just enjoy the time together.

If you really think the mom thing will be an issue, maybe ask mom to make up a little care package with things she needs for the trip like a new pair of sunglasses, a new Disney shirt, hair accessories, a nice note to have fun with daddy, etc.

I would try for afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. That would be a special event. Maybe do one of the dinner shows

It sounds like a sweet idea.

Totally depending on your daughter's temperament, surprising her might not be the best plan. While my daughter would LOVE a Disney trip, she would freak out if she was given no time to prepare to be away from Mom. And she's 9. But, I'm sure many kids might be able to handle it.

What types of things is your daughter into? Rides? Meeting characters? Princess stuff? Star Wars?

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I think the suprise will work out for her. We are leaving on a Monday morning and I plan to make it like we are driving to school but realize we forgot her backpack. So we will double back home and mom will be waiting with my daughters suitcase!

I think this trip we will skip any character meetings unless they pop up with no wait Since we have limited time. She has already met and got autographs from most characters.

How is the tea time at GF??

I just took my nine year old on a mother/daughter trip. She also has a younger sister and, when the three year old is with us, we can't do all the things my older daughter wants to do.

First, if you don't already have a place to stay, I would suggest staying at a value. My daughter adored Pop Century and she was just as happy there as she would have been at any of the deluxes. She loved all of the bright decor.

Plan for a little spontaneity. How do you like that for a paradox? We had a day where I just asked her what she felt like doing at the time. I let her pick the park and the rides. Typically, I plan everything down to the minute, but since it was just us, I let her choose. We had a plan, but I let her help put together the plan.

For the first time, we played Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. We played it for over five hours. It was something we never could have done while pushing a stroller around MK with a complaining little one.

Ride the rides that have height requirements and/or the ones the little one can't do.

It is great to be with the whole family, but I love being alone with one child sometimes, too. Have a wonderful trip.

Thanks!

We usually stay at pop or AOA, this time we are staying at CBR. I'm not thrilled by how big it is(I've stayed there before) but since it's just us I figured it would make the trip a bit different. Plus it was only like $60 more over pop.

Def going to check out the sorcerers of magic. Thanks!
