I don't read much. Favorite childhood books were Judy Blume's series with Pickle Juice, God...it's me Margaret, etc.

I did like the book Left Behind, but I haven't read any sequels. I read that in Mexico and haven't been back, so no sequels. Remember folks, I have two small kids. Who can read???

Left Behind... hmmm.... I read the first several in the series. I didn't think they were the best written but the storyline was interesting. I've always been fascinated by born again Christian ideology. Not sure why. All religions tend to fascinate me.

Anyway, an amusing story (to me). And if any of you are indeed Born Again, please don't be offended!:

Joe and I were at Blockbluster. We were looking for something to watch over the weekend and I came across a movie version of the first Left Behind. I shouted over a few aisles "Hey! Look! Left Behind!"

A woman and a man whom I assume was her husband walked over, beatifically smiling at me and said, "Oh! You're familiar with it?"

"Sure! I've read quite a few of the books."

She says, still smiling, "Have you been saved then?"

Just then, Joe walks over and says, "What did you say, honey?" and puts his hand on my shoulder.

The smiley woman, with a look of utter confusion, stares. So I smile back and say, "No, I haven't been saved but thanks. Have you read the books?" I tried to engage her in a short conversation but she just stared and looked oh so confused... "I've always been fascinated by the born again concept..."

Nada from her. Zilch. Nothin'. Wouldn't you think a christian who is required to bear witness whenever given the opportunity would have snatched at such an chance? A gay guy who readily admits to being fascinated and actually WANTS to talk to you? C'mon! Jackpot!

Blank stares, not even that smile. They walked away muttering something I couldn't hear.

So I just shrugged my shoulders, wandered off looking for a slasher flick starring scantily clad vixens running up and down stairs.

How sweet! puckerup:

My DH, and I say that as sarcastic as possible, advised me last night that his bowling tournament is not only Sat but Sun too. Whatever! Real nice! Go jump in a lake butt head!

I was thinking about doing brunch for the mums, faghettaboutit! Maybe, and that's a big maybe, I'll just do the brunch for my mom and dad. I dunno....seems like a lot of work for just 2 people. I am a little irritated about the whole thing.

Well....maybe it wasn't so much the book as just relaxing at the pool and drinking all day that made it enjoyable! :teeth: It was an all inclusive and I got my monies worth in the alcohol. Never drunk when you slowly drink ALL DAY LONG. :earseek:

BTW....I am not born again...I too enjoy learning about all religions. I must say Catholics, Jahova's Witness, Jewish and Penecostal are all very intriguing to me.

Joe, I am soooo excited, it looks like the series was remade last year....It was by Christopher Anvil (the guy who gave me the short story kept saying Mac Reynolds. He also wrote Pandora's Planet.....

I will do an Amazon.com search.....

Classic SF ReIssues edited by Eric Flint
Works of Christopher Anvil

can anyone recommend any good vampire books? I read tons of Buffy and Angel plus I'm hooked on LOTR and Harry Potter

They Live by Robert McCammon is great!

Light At The End by Craig Spector and John Skipp is GREAT

Salem's Lot by Stephen King is one of the best

Traveling Vampire Show by Richard Laymon is a lot of fun.

Fat White Vampire Blues by Andrew Fox. It's on my shelf at home as a next-to-read. Joe read it and enjoyed it.

Never read her books but from what I understand, Laurell K. Hamilton's book series with Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter is supposed to be pretty entertaining. A co-worker swears by them.

Of course, the Lestat series starting with Interview With The Vampire by Ann Rice is apparently great. I couldn't get into them, a bit too goth for me. I should give it another try.

geffric is Midway an all night airport? Is it open 24/7? Anyone else who knows...feel free to advise. Thanks!

Hey everyone!!

I'm still enjoying the Cinco de Mayo 'ritas! Anyone else want to join me? It is a beautiful day here in Kentucky! llebrekniT & I went to the mall & I got a Josh 2 sleeveless t-shirts. Buy 1 get 1 free ($8.50 total for both!). They had a gift thing where if you spent $40 you got a free Mickey tote that has a place for 9 3 1/2 x 5 pictures on the side. It is so cute & when llebrekniT & I combined our orders, we had enough for 2! Thanks llebrekniT!!!

QOTD:

Let's see, I love most Jack Kerouac books. Some of my favorites are The Town & The City, Dharma Bums and Big Sur. Oh and, of course, On The Road. I also love The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. I also love Look Homeward, Angel and You Can't Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe. One more, then I'll try to think of some more recent books. I liked Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig. I never get to read very much anymore. Maybe I'll take a book with me this weekend. I'll have lots of time to read in the car.

Page 2

So what are people having for dinner tonight? I had lemon chicken and rice which was yummy:)

Right now I am watching a repeat of the x-files on the TV? I love that show (hence the name Danauk, after Dana Skully.)

Well, in honor of Cinco de Mayo, we are having Chile Relleno Casserole. After dinner, we will watch "That 70's Show", "American Idol" & the season finale of "The O.C.". Big night, huh?

We are having some of NC Beast's BBQ pork for dinner with a veggie. We had pick up some fresh hamburger rolls from Fuddruckers to make sandwiches out of the pork.

Heads up on the return of e-nights!:Pinkbounc

I saw one for May 31, ? for June, and a listing of July nights.

Sounds fun Deadheadbelle

Hey fellow TAGLIKINS I've just hit 1500 posts :happy2: Can I have a party tonight in honour of this? :teeth: I didn't celebrate when I hit 1000 posts as no one congratulated me when I pointed it out :sad1: :charac2:

So champagne and strawberries around the hot tub anyone. The champagne is on ice waiting and I am all alone :worried:

I'm in Danauk! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Pass me the bubbly. I guess I'll be double fisted tonight. Margarita in one hand, Champagne in the other!!!

Congrats DANAUK! :Pinkbounc

I'll join you with the 'rita's DHB. I need them right about now. Just called Rob and let him know that the assessment on our house went up for the third year in a row-which of course means our property taxes go up again. I had to listen to a diatribe regarding his, shall we say, distaste for the State of New York, and then he reminded me that this was the reason he wanted to move. So now I have to feel guilt once again for not wanting to move to Florida. :(

Thanks for the congratulations guys, I feel loved :lovestruc

I forgot to tell you earlier. We found out today that the BBC want to film something at our school with our 11 year olds!! Tesco (a huge supermarket chain) wants to promote a new healthy living food range for young people. Our school was the first in the area to gain the gold healthy school award (we only allow healthy food at snack time, promote healthy living, do extra sports etc.) Anyway they want to do some work with the children which will be filmed by the BBC. They choose our school because of our award and because we are known to promote healthy living!!

Hey Barb they don't have property tax in Florida, what's wrong with you? You really dropped the ball this time. I mean, really, what were you thinking?;)

There are two certainties in life, death and taxes.

Just point out all the good stuff you're getting out of your tax dollar. If nothing else, it'll be a change of subject. Give him something else to gripe about.

OK, clearly I'm not helping.

So, the dinner question, I can handle that one.

We are having chicken on the grill that has been marinating in a pineapple/soy/garlic/ginger concoction. It will be put on a bun with a piece of grilled pineapple on top. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hey, TB, what are you paying for private school. If I tell him that and multiply it times two kids, maybe he'll realize that $5,500 a year in property taxes is NOT the end of the world.

Of course it's not just the property taxes, it's the constant money problems the state has. The county is going to raise sales tax from 7 percent to 8.25 percent. Companies are all leaving for Mexico and China -- well the whole nation is having that problem. But of course the politicians are getting their raises and the civil workers are guaranteed their pensions...

Sorry, I forgot this isn't the debate board. ;)
