I would liken them more to an opossum with a shell. Racoons can be nasty and these are not. I've never deliberately tried to approach one, but when we've been outside and seen them, they don't make any move to get away. Actually, I'm not sure they pay too much mind to their surroundings at all....hence all the roadkills you see!

I don't know exactly what they eat, but I'm guessing bugs or grubs or the like. Thus the holes in the yard....:headache: But I'm not about to enter into an armadillo war. My odds of winning are slim and besides, they were here first.

An opossum with a shell. :scared1::lmao::rotfl2: I think my imagination is working overtime. :rotfl2:

I just Googled "armadillos" and learned three new facts: (from "Classic Garden" web site)

1) "Their favorite foods are insects, earthworms, spiders, grubs and scorpions, which comprise over 90 percent of their diet." Chalk one up for the 'dillos...!

2) "Since they will also feed on fruits, you may have to do away with your compost heap for a while." Hmm, since I just built my compost bin and am trying to establish it, maybe I can cover the fruit with donkey poop??....:lmao:

3) "Put your dog to work. Dogs are excellent weapons for curtailing armadillo activity. When constantly harassed by territorial dogs, even the most tenacious armadillos will normally leave the area in search of more peaceful homesteading. .... Armadillos don't like dogs--not even little pooches--and will quickly retreat to the burrow when harassed." BINGO!!...time to train that lil' pup of ours! Or, visit the local shelter and actually adopt our own dog (the puppy comes and goes...right now there's a group at camp and the dogs stay there 24/7 because they get "real" food!). I wanted a watch dog for the future chickens, anyway (and, just to alert us if someone comes down our loooong driveway!)

Oh, and armadillos are related to anteaters and sloths! Who knew...

Holy armadillo overload batman!! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

But yah for the scorpion eaters.:woohoo::banana:

Sounds like you have a quandry to solve Lulu. :rotfl: Maybe you could train the armadillos to watch the chickens and alert you to strangers,:rotfl:

Good morning ya'll. :goodvibes

It looks like its gonna be a rainy on again off again stormy dark muggy day. In other words a great day to sit back and read a book. If only I could.

Morning Smileybug! "Blazing hot" is a good day to sit back and read a book, too....if only I could!!:rotfl:Alas, too much to do.

Hope everyone has a great day - IT'S FRIDAY!!!

Hi everyone. I have been feeling better, but not out of the woods as far as knowing I won't get a sinus infection. Today the headache and throbbing nose and teeth are worse for some reason. The Dr said my ears were red and irritated but not at the point of infection yet. The more I cough, the more my ears ache. I'm better than last week though.

Busy getting my dauther ready for college.
SHE LEAVES TOMORROW!!! :scared1:

Hey LegoMom......I hope somewhere in your busy day you'll find a moment of peace. :goodvibes

SadieDog....I am so sorry that you are still not feeling that great. :wizard: Here's to having plenty of energy for getting your DD settled. :goodvibes

...last 'free' weekend.....winding down to be, what appears to be, THE crappiest summer on record......

kimmar, kimmar, kimmar!! <---------Look ya'll, it;s kimmar. :rotfl:

Ya'll have had strange weather this summer. :wizard: Here's to a great fall!!

I hope you have a great last free weekend. The freedom has ended here. Unfortunately the flu seems to be gearing up already. :sad2:

Hey Smileybug!....it's kimmar!!....:rotfl2:

HI KIMMAR! :cheer2: I am truly, truly sorry for the "summer" you never had....:sad2: My in-laws have had one rained-out weekend after another.

So it's Friday night and I'm back to making PIZZA! Yum...:goodvibes Had a great day here at the LegoFarm. "My" dogs are back (no one up at camp!) and I just fed them dinner. I'm teaching the puppy some manners and he seems to be catching on. So darn cute.....

Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend? I think after dinner tonight I'll take advantage of no one being at camp and go use the pool!!:thumbsup2

Sadiedog--so sorry you are feeling bad--I hope you feel more like you in no time.

I have good news about the kid who was released and still hanging around town. They arrested him yesterday for violating parole. Yes. Less than 36 hours after his release.

I think it had something to do with our calls to that inept judge's office. We threatened to get the national news involved.

Here's something interesting--I've started using Firefox, because the Disney website works much, much better with it. It tells me how many posts I have on this thread when I click on my User CP. I have 170 posts in this thread alone, lol.

Smileybug, Anna, Legomom, MeanQueen, Sadiedog, DO, cheermom, and Kimmar (yes, even kimmar)--ya'll have a fantastic weekend. I am doing Disney planning for two trips.

A friend of mine and I are taking our youngest girls for a girls-only trip over Memorial day weekend--we are staying at POFQ or CBR--not sure which yet. She wants me to be her tour guide.

Mean Queen--I haven't forgotten about DVC. DH wants to pay off our personal loan that we took out to pay our credit card debt first. So, Bank of America gets paid first and then he's hoping to get BOA to approve the mortgage--I think we're gonna do a refi on our house and use the equity to pay for DVC. The only way he'll do it though is if BOA is paid off and we can refi for a 15 or 20-year mortgage.

Darn him for wanting to be responsible.

HEY! My scrollie isn't scrolling! What's up with that?

eta--now it is--what's up with the DIS tonight? I was getting a little sad there. . .

Good morning everyone. Wish us luck. My husband is packing the car now and soon we will be off to bring our daughter to college. I'm full of emotions this morning and mixed feelings. :sad1: and  It is raining and I imagine the wind will be nice and strong on the ocean. I was hoping for a nice move in day but will have to settle for wind and rain. We might have had 2 weeks of summer.

creativeamanda, glad that kid is back where he belongs.

LegoMom, I bet that puppy is SO CUTE.

UGH My dogs see the stuff packed on the kitchen floor and they are all excited. They think we are going camping/to our camp. :sad1:

Good morning ya'll. :goodvibes

Happy moving in day for your DD SadieDog!! :goodvibes You know, they say if it rains on your wedding day it means good luck. So I would imagine that rain on your DD's college moving in day will mean the same thing!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Have a great one ya'll. princess:

SadieDog, best wishes to your daughter on her new adventure! I can imagine it's quite a mix of emotions. Are you feeling any better??(as in your cold/sinuses!)

Smileybug...Mornin'! What's in store for you today? Lots of :laundy: for me! (although I have yet to put up a line outside....which I should do soon because in this hot dry air, my stuff would dry in no time!)

.

Howdy all. I have cleaning today & then I work 3-9. Oh dear God, I just know that it's going to be sloooooooooooow tonight.

SadieDog - good luck with sending your DD off to college. I bet it is a wide range of emotions for all of you. Including the Buicks.

Amanda - glad they got that kid off the street. Hopefully, someone will be able to help him. After I post my pictures from my Labor Day Bay Lake trip, you may not want to be responsible. ;-) We're actually thinking of running up to DHS tomorrow to finally see the American Idol Experience.

LegoMom - Dry? Wow. I've forgot what that was like. I can send you one of our lovely afternoon storms, if you miss them.

PaMom - good luck with work!

Smiley - Morning!

I'm cleaning DD3's room out. She's getting a new bedroom set. I donated her changing table/dresser that belonged to my oldest. Sad, but she's looking forward to "big girl" furniture.

Ooh!..Me!...Me! I don't wanna be responsible!!...:lmao: I would love to buy DVC but it's just not feasible. The biggest "responsible" choice facing me with Disney is wondering if I'll keep our camping resv's or cave in and do Free Dining @ POR again....:headache: (freedininganyone?!)

Well, I don't miss the every single day late-afternoon wash out!! But, right about now I would take a week of steady rain to water the ground, replenish the wells, and raise the level of the ponds back to normal!

Ah yes...the upgrade to "big kid!" I think TK just went through that not too long ago with her DS. Is you DD having a "theme" with her new set?
